Can't post links,so go to Wikipedia and get a look at this organ case! Originally built by Jacobus Van Eynde (1717–1719), expanded and rebuilt three times in the 20th century: in 1902 by L.B. Hooghuys, in 1935 by Klais Orgelbau and in 1988 by Frans Loncke & zonen. The instrument has 60 stops on three manuals and pedal.[1] The organ is played in services and in the Kathedraalconcerten, a concert series founded in 1952. The organist is Ignace Michiels
That was great! I can't say that I'm articulate on why I like classical music. I don't think I'm better than anyone else for liking it, or more enlightened, or that I'm smarter. The best explanation I can give is that the notes seem to go together really well, nice harmonies. There's also variety in how the notes are played, some loudly, others real soft, it creates contrast within the piece. And then there's my own preference working here, the sound of an organ. It's just so powerful.
Excellent interpretation! Very expressive, very heartfelt. That's an interesting console that thing has, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it.
Virtuoso bravura, slightly hurried for my taste since I think the "color organs" sound better at a slightly slower tempo. But that's a minor point. It's gratifying to see anyone promoting Widor (or Vierne, Guilmant, Rheinberger, Franck, etc) nowadays with the rapid extinction of complex musical forms.
Keep up the good work - why not record the entire Symponic Cycle? LOL
Please watch and respect this 1937 Klais organ (especially for it's reeds but the rest as well) if it comes to be restaured or enlarged in the future; it is a VERY nice sounding organ for the 1930's! JW
How 'bout the 1st. movement(Allegro) from Symphony 6? I think it's my favorite, ever since I heard Lynn Davis play it at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco. I'm not finding it!
I agree. The 5th Symphonie Finale is a "Grand-daddy warhorse" that everyone knows and likes....It DOES get old, though. I have grown so weary of singing the Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah....I can imagine how old it gets to be a big performer and having to do the same stuff over and over and over
The one playing this organ is one heck of a good organist! The song that you played appears to be insanely difficult! I am an organist myself, and I thought I was pretty decent, but you seem to blow even me away almost like a fart in a wind storm! You can check out my pipe organ demo by searching for "JNozum". May God's peace be with you always!
Excellent performance by a first class concert organist. However, the organ is quite ordinary and has nothing of the grandeur of the Cavaillé-Coll of St-Sulpice in Paris on which that symphony was originally created.
thanks ive now finally found a version on here of the fantastic piece. I play this one as well but only on a 2 manual instrument. Theres much to say of having that extra manaual to help with this. Lots of stop changes when i play it to get the same sort of sound. The best version of this i heard was on the St Pauls cathedral which Huw Williams played. Geat playing!
Have you got a recording of Huw William's Version of this piece? I've been trying to locate it everywhere.. I heard it when it was broadcast live and regretted not having taped it..
I like Oliver Latry's version more than that, but also REALY GOOD played ;)

Wow, I was floored by how well this was played. Extremely good. Wish they had a Hi-Fi version of this available for sale.

Widor with spirit and fire in a finely realized performance. A memorable vision built upon majesty with an eye toward eternity.

great organist but needs too much help...

He plays all the notes himself and it's not his fault that this organ has no sequenzer nor setzer-combinations,so what are you talking about?

Splendid performance of this fabulous piece! Love this rendition and also Daniel Roth's at St. Sulpice. Wonderful!

Une bien belle interprétation ! Vraiment !
Juste bien, Widor lui même le jouait sûrement de cette manière, calme et posée, suffisament large et bien claire ! Bravo

Widor is sooooo operatic! (yes, sigh, I a singer), but my mother was an organist! hehe I love the king of instruments!

Small correction: Widor was born in 1844, not 1845.

Wonderful playing, I'm crazy about the first and the final of the Widor's 6th Symphony. I do not understand why there is not enough cheering.

Yes, I was looking for that also, and, like you, not finding it. - - hottrod - - Rockford, IL.

Enter Vincent Dubois in the YouTube search field. There is an excert from Symphony 6 Allegro, at the end of the clip. It's at St. Sulpice!

Thanks!

Or else, enter "Daniel Roth" "Widor 6th" in the search field, and you'll get the *whole* Allegro at St-Sulpice.
