I know they are lords of the Sith. Exiled Jedi invaded the Sith, enslaved them, and called themselves 'Sith Lords'. They DO follow the teachings of the Sith. The(spieces of) Sith were a sect of Force-sensitives that practiced the Dark Side.

Palpatine was insanely powerful. People forget that for a sith it's about overall power not just looking good in combat and all out physical skills. Nobody could best him when it came to the force.
