Im glad blu ray won. it is an amazing disk and unless internet streaming becomes popular over the next few years i belive it should be come the replace DVD's. Why? Quality, the disks themselves are virtually immortal in comparision to DVD's and i love all the new featurs of blu ray players and when it comes to using them for back up and data storage its basicly immpossible to run out of space on a disk when you can up to 500GB on a single burnable disk :D which in turn reduces disk managment

I really cant tell the difference in picture quality between HD DVD and BD, but I know that BD has bigger discs so that it will contain better audio and more special features... There was no room for 2 HD formats, and the people chose BD... Guess thats it!

It really depends on the movies. Both can display up to 1080p. Blu-Ray at 1080p is the same exact thing as HD DVD at 1080p. Its like saying two different cars going at 100 mph is not the same speed.
Blu ray is great . its much much better then downloads. reasoning being companys really only use 720p and with compresstion. so you get much more on the blu ray disc.
blu-ray still cost to much 30 bucks for one movie....hell i will still buy regular DVD's cheaper and have the ps3 up-convert them and still look great, hell up-converted movies look better then the downloaded movies because the dvd holds about 4 gigs and downloaded movies are about 3-4 gigs and trying to stretch that compressed info just looks bad. so don't feel bad guys i only stent 50 bucks for my 360 drive and i still us it. DVD in add-on and game in system...can ps3 do nope. so still allgood
I don't care about movie downloads, what if your HD is full. Disks are so you don't fill up your HD. What if you want to bring a movie to someone's house? Disk, not download.
For downloads to catch up we'll need to wait for the "Internet2" as it's being called. Which will be able to transfer at approx. 9.08 Gigabytes per second.
Do people think that people will eventually download movies in the future??? Seriously how are you going to fit it? A blu-ray movie is about 30-50gigs! Think about waiting to download something that huge and how long it will take! So of course they will make the quality crap on it!

Alot of people will be buying the PS3 only as a blu-ray player. That stratigy is good and all, but that won't increase the software sales largely, 3rd party companies will eventually stop making PS3 games, PlayStation will lose it's momentum with what it's known for (games), and will eventually kill the PlayStation brand. So this plan may backfire on Sony.
With Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, Resistence 2, God of War 3, Twisted Metal, LittleBigPlanet, and other exclusive titles, people won't use the PS3 as just a Blu ray player anymore.
Get as MANY HD DVDs as you can. They are selling movies for cheaper than DVDs and HD DVD has more extra content so instead of waiting for the movies to show up on Blu ray just snag as many HD DVDs you can and then when Blu ray gets cheap enough or you have enough cash snag a PS3.
i still say xbox has the better exlusives as a game system. but yes, sony won here, and i feel they may be gaining momentum. like i said im still much more of an xbox fan due to the lack of quality exlucsives for ps3, but as of now i am planning to buy a ps3. its just the best deal when it comes to getting blu-ray. why pay 500$ for a player when you can get so much more with the ps3 for the same amount of money?

It really depends on the movies. Both can display up to 1080p. Blu-Ray at 1080p is the same exact thing as HD DVD at 1080p. Its like saying two different cars going at 100 mph is not the same speed.

Blu ray is great . its much much better then downloads. reasoning being companys really only use 720p and with compresstion. so you get much more on the blu ray disc.

blu-ray still cost to much 30 bucks for one movie....hell i will still buy regular DVD's cheaper and have the ps3 up-convert them and still look great, hell up-converted movies look better then the downloaded movies because the dvd holds about 4 gigs and downloaded movies are about 3-4 gigs and trying to stretch that compressed info just looks bad. so don't feel bad guys i only stent 50 bucks for my 360 drive and i still us it. DVD in add-on and game in system...can ps3 do nope. so still allgood

I don't care about movie downloads, what if your HD is full. Disks are so you don't fill up your HD. What if you want to bring a movie to someone's house? Disk, not download.

main difference between blu ray n HD..is the size of the discs..u may b able to get the same stats on HD as u do blu ray but when u actually use all of the blu ray's room then try n port that 2 a HD DVD thats when things get ugly..with compression..as for microsoft the only thing they can do right now is wait n hope 2 god sony lets em have a blu ray licence..and if sony was smart..they would wait till the PS3 is outselling the xbox anyway just 2 b on the safe side

I'm going to wait till download catch up. beside I just bought DVD upsclaer player. and blu-ray movies are more expensive and not all movies come out on blu-ray. and $400 ps3 no thanks! I paid $90 for DVD upsclaer yesterday. I'll use DVD till download starts getting better. Appple TV HD doesn't look bad. so wait a year or two till they improve.

Alot of people will be buying the PS3 only as a blu-ray player. That stratigy is good and all, but that won't increase the software sales largely, 3rd party companies will eventually stop making PS3 games, PlayStation will lose it's momentum with what it's known for (games), and will eventually kill the PlayStation brand. So this plan may backfire on Sony.

Get as MANY HD DVDs as you can. They are selling movies for cheaper than DVDs and HD DVD has more extra content so instead of waiting for the movies to show up on Blu ray just snag as many HD DVDs you can and then when Blu ray gets cheap enough or you have enough cash snag a PS3.

i still say xbox has the better exlusives as a game system. but yes, sony won here, and i feel they may be gaining momentum. like i said im still much more of an xbox fan due to the lack of quality exlucsives for ps3, but as of now i am planning to buy a ps3. its just the best deal when it comes to getting blu-ray. why pay 500$ for a player when you can get so much more with the ps3 for the same amount of money?
