you are a true artist and you are just magic i love as much watching you work as i love what you say. philosophy and art are such same path to enlightment or just happiness. there are no words really. you are just such a real artist and real person
Thank you so much, I've been wanting to get into this art form and started this weekend.I've been looking all over for a video like this, something that explains relief sculpting with gouges and chisels, not so much with a knife.I really needed this, your work is beautiful.Do you have something with what tool does what and when to use what tool for what type of detail? Again thanks so much, this is a big help to me.
Thank you so much for allowing me to look over your shoulder and to listen to your detailed instructions. It really opened my eyes to how relief carving works!
i have been looking for videos that actually show the person carving but haven't had much success, but now i found one and loved it. I am a beginner carver. i started three days ago, i had made a flower that everyone said was incredible for a beginner. i thought it was good too. all it was, was a flower on a stem on a rock carved out of a stick about 3 inches of diameter.... out of curiosity, do you think it would be possible to carve and sell the carvings also and have a job? too tiring?or not?
If you can take the time.... Maybe you should carve as much as you think you would need to to sell them for 1-2 weeks, and see how you can take it..... or how it effects you.
Hi Spirit! Thanks for your lovely video tutorials! Speaking of sharp tools - please post a video st a video on how to sharpen the basic tools you have used on your daughter's Iris! Thanks! ;)
really great vidio, I love the flower she making and she did and wonderful job for those wanting to learn and even people just wanting to lok for some great techniques. I will watch more of her vidioes
I am a wanna-be wood carver and I like the 2 videos I've seen so far(hopefully there'll be more?) I have my late grandfathers gouges and some wood and a whittling knife The one thing i don't have is - time! But after watching this AND LISTENING - I'm going to make some time. Some very good tips! Thank you - Go raibh míle maith agat(IRISH)
Thank you Spirit. First of all I think it is great that artists like yourself post free informative and visual techniques that people can make use of in their homes.I have many creative interests but finding the time and money to do most is always a problem especially when you want to earn money to give self and family things like holidays, home improvements etc. People like myself go through pains trying to achieve the right balance
To make a slight correction, Spirit is one of the 35 artists that are part of the Artists in Residence video series. To search out other titles in the series search for canderso in YouTube,
Thanks so much for showing us a sample of your work. I would have loved to have seen a delayed finish shot of this specific piece at the end. No matter that though, all the work looks lovely. Also, I loved your information given in part 1 on your experience trying to find information when you started and on the tools, proper holding techniques, etc. Very nice touch.
very nice work i see myself as a creative person as i like to draw pictures i would love to get hands on with something like this thankyou for showing this video
Spirit uses several varieties of wood, but this is Basswood. Check out the first video for her discussion of the advantages/disadvantages of different kinds of wood.
Thanks so much for sharing your love with us!
