Acer Aspire One with MAPLIN External Laptop Battery

would this work with my Acer Aspire One 751h? on the laptop it says 19V, 1.58A and on the charger it says the same.

Is this Maplin in the UK and could you give a link to the product?

Pretty cool, I agree the acer aspire one has pretty poor battery life for a netbook (I have the 120gb win xp version). I usually get about an hour to just under two hours out of my 3 cell battery. I looked, but I don't think the maplin battery is available in the U.S. I guess a comparable model would be a tekkeon external battery. Another option would be to buy the 6 cell battery like you mentioned, but I want a external battery with multiple adapters to use with my many laptops.

This isnt exclusive to the Aspire One, it works with many laptops.

look at your power brick, read the wattage rating. Want a battery that can discharge at that rate that matchs the machines max consumption. So by your statement of 19.5V at 4700mA (4.7A) would be 19.5 x 4.7 = 91 watts. So you would want a battery that would have a higher discharge rate than 91 watts. Now if only attand to only charge off the battery, than the discharge rate and mAh rating should be equal or greater than laptops the charge rate and mAh rating

What is the voltage the original DC. Is it the same?

Maybe for now it seems to be working fine but who knows maybe by using a different DC input, with higher voltage you just shorting the life of the battery or the charging circuitry.

I dont understand what you mean about spoiling anything, the unit is meant to power a laptop and does so fine, been using it for ages now.

The LEDs did come on after pressing the button to show how much power was left, and the video stopped as nothing else to see.

Maplins Electronic in the UK.

I think they have replaced it with a newer model now, so just need to look in store.

I have used this additional battery pack now, and it gave me an additional 5 hours use, whilst recharging my mobile from flat, and still had a little juice left in it. Cracking~!!

Either way its a non issue, as everything works fine.

I will post a comment once I have tested how much usage time is gained from using the unit.

Actually that acer powersupply is so small that it gets overloaded when charging the battery and using the computer at the same time, thats why it gives you pulses. You take too much amps from it at once and the automatic circuit breaker tries not to kill the charger.
