  • I am a Christian and i celebrate Christmas, BUT i do not think caroling should be mandatory.

  • What if the kids are Jewish?

  • @konochi520 then they will sing 'Where's ya messiah now, Douchebag!? by Judas Priest'.

  • what a suprise, another silly law from California, AGAIN lol

  • Well if they're gonna be forced into singing hymns they better not be half-assed about it. They gotta ditch all the "Jesus loves you" nonsense and get strait into the Latin and "tidings of comfort and joy" and other songs where they're not scared about mentioning Satan and the true christianity, two thousand years of darkness and bafflement and hunger and fear! Back when Christianity and conformity where drilled and pounded into you. Better times. (lol joke)

  • I've been to Redding o.O

  • lol, i just figured out why there are so many suicides at christmas. it's a religious holiday.

  • Comment removed

  • No what they wanted to do was cover it up, they wanted people to become christian and not pagen

  • lol.. SOAK IT IN! ITS ABOUT JESUS!!^^ Go Cenk!!

  • in sixth grade they made us sing jesus songs. lol

  • The reason I'm not a declared democrat is because I hate how politically correct all this shit is. Are we looking forward to a future that has no culture just because of the differences in religion? Beliefs in the prominent culture that this country was founded upon shouldn't be discarded or enforced. They should be embraced as what they are, history not religious propaganda.

  • I agree, and I have nothing against Christmas Caroling (As long as it's not mandatory :/)

Christmas is a secular holiday with a lot of religious crap snapped on, and from many religions. As long as the carols are secular or have been said so many times that they don't promote anything.

  • I need to say straight up that I'm not christian. This is coming down to too definite of a definition of political correctness. The prominent culture in the US is christianity. Should it be mandatory to sing a song from every religious belief just to be politically correct? I'm sure a kid celebrating kwanzaa in america knows just as many christmas songs as kwanzaa songs. If the song is about the christmas spirit than its fine.

  • I don't think that songs that have to do about jesus should be forced upon youth, but I do think that schools should be allowed to sing holiday songs. The holiday spirit (not specific to any religion) is a very peaceful friendly time that should be admired. Who the hell asn't heard Rudolph the red nosed reindeer or Frosty, or Here comes santa clause anyways? Songs that are about the holiday spirit and not a specific religion should be what comes from public schools during the holidays anyways.

  • Lots of Christians would change their ideas if they were given a history lesson.

  • Christians are just looking for a way to get to your kids and keep you from complaining about. Sneaky and underhanded.

  • Oh my god, Cent knows about us Pagans! Loving it...xD

  • Hear, hear!

  • I practice Druidism and what many Christians don't understand is that they basically stole our religion, called it their own, and killed our people.

  • Mhmm. But it's funny when you tell them and they have that od look on their face...

    :P

  • @musiclovinggurl123 That odd look is classic lol. They either call you a liar and Satan or Beezlebub or something like that. If they actually start thinking about it, they will say "THIS IZ A TEST JEZUZ WUZ TAKING ABOWT, HURR. U R TEH ANTIE-CHRIST N00b!!11" And run off. Not all Christians though. Just alot of them lol

  • thats ridiculous. if they are going to do that, they should include other music from other holidays/religious groups. but then that would piss off some people so it turns into a repeat fight of separate between church and state and those not wanting to even participate in things outside of christmas. oh americans...

  • Typical Christianity, taking parts of other religions and then burying them.

  • No, Cenk they don't mind big govt. as long as it is not a liberal one. If it is one where you march in a circle throwing books on a bondfire while singing Christmas Carols that is just fucking dandy.

  • I usually like the young turks but WHO CARES???

  • What´s possibly academic about ¨Frosty the Snowman¨? And since when is ¨oh come let us adore him¨ NOT devotional and NOT promoting a particular religious belief? I have no problems with Christmas carols but let´s be honest.

  • I celebrate Yule

  • Haha i do too :P

And what i think is... Well, YOU STOLE MY HOLIDAY BITCH!

  • Oh the jews/muslims/everyone else are gonna be pissed

  • People always call me a liar when I tell them that christmas used to be the celebration of a pagan sun-god.

;-} then I tell them to check an encyclopedia, and they get even angrier

  • Close but no Christmas is the substitute to those holidays for Christians not the absorption of them.

  • harr77:

Not really. Most of the symbols, imagery and traditions of christmas are entirely pagan and have nothing to do with the bible whatsoever. In pre-dark age archaic , they assimilation of these practices was part of cajoling converts.

I don't care in the least. It's just triva to me.

  • @glamourknight but now its for something else, so your point is flawed.

  • mjames4040:

No, Bitch.. Christmas is flawed. That was the point.

Now go back to sucking your dad's taint.

  • @glamourknight "taint", who are you supposed to be, satan??? "taint"? lol, but then again it would explain why you said that about Christmas. lol!!!!!

  • mjames4040:

The reporting in this video is about idiotic religious extremists trying to force people like me to celebrate a holiday that we don't want to. Thats the fucking "point" that went over your head.

Yeah, I said you suck taint.. If you'd like to taste some other flavors, I'm sure your family have other orifices and organs you can go to work on.

  • @glamourknight whatever dude.

  • no no no hes molested by his priest ok ... and he/or she likes it :D

  • @glamourknight Ah, yes. Horus/Hadit.

  • its's a bit ironic that we burn the cristmas tree after cristmas

  • These halfwits will bring about a true-life 1984 if they get power. Those morons don't know or care what they are talking about... less government? nah what they really want is more of THEIR government, not the fair government of the liberals, that give people things like "rights" and "freedom". One would think that these fools are going against American ideals, but I guess as long as they have the word "Patriot" in their name and in every sentence they spew out of their asses they must not be.

  • wow.

i am amazed by how these ppl can shamelessly push their religion on other ppl and then cry that their christmas is under attack from atheists... because these are the same ppl, you just know it.

  • My family is Pagan and Jeweish but my family celebrates:

Yule (Pagan, pretty much same as winter solstice)

    and Christmas.

    My traditions are wierd.

  • My family is atheist but we celebrate Christmas too :) We even have two nativity scenes with baby Jesus and whatnot set up (they are family heirlooms, of course). This year we are celebrating Christmas a week early though because we can't wait a WHOLE week of Christmas break without presents xD

  • Yup and I'm so sick of having other beliefs imposed onto me.

    oh wait.

  • Exactly! The Easter bunny is also a pagan icon!

If you want to your children to sing and hear xmas tunes, send them to a private school that encourages that particular myth you believe in.

I don't want to hear them!

  • That's one reason I did send my children to private school.I also had several other reasons like not having them go through metal detectors because a worthless thug student wants to blast his fellow students, not having them indoctrinated with homosexual sex education, not having them brainwashed to hate the civilization of the west.Christmas carols don't bother me a bit.

  • That's right a private school will protect them from any molesting priests or teachers who will school them personally in homosexual education whether they are gay or not. And teach them to hate anyone that doesn't believe in their myths or thinks differently then them. Good choice.

You are such a better than anyone else! And a lot smarter, obviously.

And "a worthless thug" is such a christian thing to say. Praise Jaysus!

  • Jaysus. as in Jaysus Kryst? I think he sold me some bunk acid in a Dead parking lot once. that wookie motherfucker! oh well .. I might give him another chance :/

  • First of all its a fact that Catholic Priest are about as likely to molest children at about the same percentage as any other calling or profession.Second the public school system is a mess with 20 year old drug dealing high school seniors and thugs who gang up and rob other kids of lunch money.I can tell you have a boiling hatred for Christians.

  • Listen a-hole my brother was destroyed by those lecherous nasty priests! And the masochistic nuns aren't any better. I went to that piece of shit hole for 13 years and I wish there was a target on top of the vatican and a contest to see who can destroy it first.

Thugs and any public schools may not be so pretty but they are better than any priest or nun or pope, any time and any where. You should live as you want others to live or go away. I don't need to hear it.

  • OK and I can understand your anger and frustration. If you look at what happened to you logically would you hate all Arab Muslims if they destroyed your brother or all African americans if they were responsible.Think about that!!

  • But "they" didn't.

  • Why don't you think of other people for once and not yourself.

How would you feel if you were forced to song islamic songs at work?

Freedom of religion means freedom from religion. Celebrate all you want at home or your own settings, but don't think for a second you can impose beliefs onto others.

  • I say go with the carols, and also require Hannukah muwic, moslem so gs id they exit, budhist chants, hindu chants, and any other religion of the kidw in the school.

  • I say don't bother at all, even with diverse religions, because I bet 90% of students will hate it anyway.

  • Don't be alarmed by the ground shaking. It's just Thomas Jefferson and James Madison rolling over in their graves. If Jefferson were here, I think he'd call those people the most ****ed up in America. Oddly, use of taxes for religious purposes was well covered in the Virgina Statute for Religious Freedom and Memorial and 'Remonstrance Against Religious Assessments." But while we're at it, kids should have the opportunity to hear the Bible is the only holy book. How about it Glenn Beck?

  • Yeah I'm sure Jefferson and Madison are rolling in their grave over having the kiddies being forced to sing those evil Christmas Carols. However they are getting relief in the knowledge that the safe school czar will insist the kiddos learn to put condoms on cucumbers and read books about homosexual acts. They will also enjoy black nationalist teaching the evils of the west while they teach the kids about kwanzaa.

  • :-)

  • except statistically w/o safe sex education, kids will have more teen pregnancies. that should be obvious to anyone but looking at your post I can see why you wouldn't understand it. and there's nothing wrong w/ learning about kwanza.

  • I wanna to Litigate and make compulsory (using Tax payers money) the Islamic Prayer call. 5 Times a day. Everyday. hahaha

  • Don't worry you won't have to. Every Islamic nation with the exception of Turkey force Islam on the citizens. When the multicultural insane zealots have their way the Muslims will be the majority population and they will insist on the prayer call five times a day.

  • You're right the Muslims force their religion on their students so we should do the same thing. Good point.

  • That's not my point. Until this former nation was turned into a multicultural dumping ground the predominant religion was Christianity and even non believers did not think singing Christmas Carols was a big deal.Nobody was forced to it just happened.

  • Yes and times change. So what's your point?

  • I'm glad you mentionned it, Cenk... The paegan's celebrated the sun's birthday... so the christians took the "not so big" leap to celebrate the Son's birthday... all in the name of quietly assimilating the "heathens".

  • you forgot the biggest one Cenk- Santa was originally green, but coca-cola made it red and made christmas even more commercial then it already was!

  • "Saturnalia became one of the most popular Roman festivals. It was marked by tomfoolery and reversal of social roles, in which slaves and masters ostensibly switched places, with expectedly humourous results." Oh those Romans know how to party

  • Its funny because my school is catholic and we dont carol for sh1t

  • Of course not, ya dumb fuck. What if the fukin kids are jewish? Lol

  • I have to wonder, when you are as stupid as you are.

Do you know you're stupid, or did you think the idea of rounding up people and killing them for having a different opinion than you was some genius idea????

  • I'd have to go with genius idea, Perez Hilton.

  • ....UMMMM....we liberals were in school when they had x'mas carols etc. We grew up to become liberals from that experience.

Get yourself a CD and knock yourself out listening to that music on the way home. Jesus ain´t coming...me thinks he knocked up marry out of wed lock and is burning in hell.

  • Kids have Christmas in school now too. Few years ago we were singing Christmas carols in French. It was educational. (And they were secular songs, Rudolph and Frosty..)

And no one cares if you say "Merry Christmas". Just don't be upset if someone wishes you a "Happy Eid" in return.

I think saying "Christmas carols are allowed as long as they aren't for promoting one religion, and are used for educational purposes" is fair.

It's just like any other rule for schools/education.

  • Hell No

  • there is a separation between church and state in america

  • I thought he was born during feast of tabernacle in sept-oct six months after john the baptist.

  • dot com

  • Ok, like how many "Christmas" carols are even about Jesus. I can only think of 1 (Silent Night) the others are about Santa and presents and all this other commericalized crap. So people need to use their noodle before getting their panties in a bunch.

  • Are you really this stupid?

  • Wow, clever and witty retort. So I guess you were asking the question to yourself. Right??

  • *Hark the Herald Angels Sing*,*Away in a Manger*,*O Come all ye Faithful*,*O Little Town of Bethlehem*,*Joy to the World*,*What Child is This.*,*The Little Drummer Boy*, *Do You Hear What I Hear?*,*Angels We Have Heard on High*, *God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen*,*It Came Upon a Midnight Clear*,*Go Tell It on the Mountain*,*The Holly and the Ivy*,"We Three Kings*,"I Saw Three Ships*,"Mary Did You Know?" All mention Jesus. And every child can sing them or listen to them outside school.

  • Ok, so I guess my school was different since we never sang any of those songs you listed. But good job on your google results.

  • Why would I have to google those? I've sung and heard them all my life. No, your school was no different from mine; we didn't sing them there.

  • It like WOW

  • More frickin news tags more news tags on useless fluff videos , only TYT does this , idiots , TYT the new fox news !!

  • What the hell? Yes, the Jewish, Muslims, Jehovah Witnesses will not freak out at them over this being a law.

*shake head* It's like when they past the Ditch Light regulations in the '90s; another pointless law, with no reasoning.

  • christians are all evil

  • Aye that is the 'gospel' truth. Amen, Du Som Hater gud.

  • Usually I find when conservatives talk about freedom, they mean the freedom to take away freedom from other people.

  • Way to prove your point with an example....

  • OK. Here's some:

Glenbeck calls himself a LIBERTARIAN. But is against gay marriage, is against abortions and is against the legalization of marijuana. He uses the most twisted language possible to justify his beliefs too, that equate freedom with government enforced social control.

Also, It's common to hear from conservatives that by granting gays the right to marry... it is actually somehow forcing the homosexual life-style onto society.

  • I thought Glenn "Batshit Crazy" Beck was FOR legalization of marijuana? he had a whole bit on it. unless that was just part of routine comedy agenda and not the real thing.

  • But it is... if they legalize gay marriage than it will be harder to suppress my homosexuality and I would feel more uncomfortable..... uh wait,... I MEAN LEGALIZING GAY MARRIAGE WILL MEAN I WILL BE FORCED INTO GAY MARRIAGES LEFT AND RIGHT AND MY CHILDREN WILL BE KIDNAPPED BY TEACHERS TO TEACH THEM TO BE GAY.

  • hey. great job, @TheYoungTurks. the ignorance of some people is frkn astounding...

  • Cenk with the Christmas history, ohh yeah you aren't fucking with someone clueless, He is the man!

  • So western tradition includes forcing schools to perform Christmas carols? I love Christmas too, but that seems a bit heavy-handed doesn't it?

  • WoW! Fucking caroler nazi's =p

  • I don't think singing should be mandatory. Also, running shouldn't be mandatory. Eating lunch shouldn't be mandatory. Also need to lift the ban on swearing. I would sing Carols if they had more swearing in them.

  • i am atheist but i celebrate christmas

  • I'm a christian and I hate christmas carols.

  • Why are the tea baggers doing this? I'm a republican and this is so against everything I believe. Come on folks! Stay focused on the bailout stuff.

  • It should be even in high school i loved it lol

  • as a great man once said: God Bless Those Pagans.

  • "God Bless Those Pagans",.Like the Nordic vikings who will cleanse this nation!! OH YEAH!!!!!!!!

  • I used to work for the Record Searchlight

  • Historical accuracy is a liberal conspiracy.

  • Teabaggers need to focus on something more pressing, like the Kennedy Assasination

  • christmas is about santa and presents, not jesus

  • hell yeah

  • The 25th of December was the Greek and Roman god Apollo's birthday. It was esayer to to have Christmas that day.

  • a substitute teacher, huh?

no wonder she had time on her hands.

  • The Tea Bagger's creed: "We are for freedom! Now do as we say!"

  • That's funny, an Anti-Government group demanding that the government do something for them...

The Tea Party - Your source for the next generation of Domestic Terrorists

  • Could not agree with Cenk more. And his facts are very on target. I put up a tree because I'm pagan. The mandatory Christmas carols sicken me. School is for learning, church is for worshiping, and the constitution is for religious freedom!

  • no it shouldn't

  • This is so stupid... talk about trying to distract the masses from the important issues. Poor kids... those grown-ups ought to start acting as though they are just that... grown-up!

  • it looks like if the tea party becomes powerful, the land of the free will become the land of the WASPs

  • Land of the free?

  • all it is is the religious nuts trying to spread thier beliefs in public school again.

  • Mandatory? This is complete bullshit. Welcome to America, land of the free.

  • Exactly cenk! Ive tried explain the pagan connection to peers with no avail. nie job.

  • Way to ruin Christmas music by making it a homework assignment.

  • I'd love for those idiot tea baggers to explain how pretty lights and pine trees have to do with Jesus.

  • wtf is a teabagger? i keep hearing that word and its doing my head in as i dont know wtf its all about.

  • teabaggers are a bunch of rednecks who enjoy having balls in their face...

  • Christmas should not be celebrated in public schools- period. A generic holiday celebration is fine- as long as Jebuss is kept out. Evangelicals need to STFU and keep their beliefs at home- or pay for a private school.

  • My tax dollars - to have my kids sing about christmas - no thanks

  • ever greens have needles not leaves

  • technically they are Needle leaves

  • I want the government to stay out of EVERYTHING, while protecting me from EVERYTHING, and forcing everyone one to participate in what I celebrate! Anything less is UN-AMERICAN!

-Typical right wing, conservative vision of AMERICA.

  • Weird? I thought going to school was to learn math, english, science? X-Mas carols? Praying in schools? Weird?

  • lol, here in ireland (no seperation of church and state) we used to sing hymns all year around, which tripled around christmas. I remember we always would be given out to if we didnt sing.

so yeah, glad all that is behind me :O

  • word to that my irish brother

  • Pine trees? You mean fur trees.

Pine trees are tall with braches at the top.

  • I think you mean Fir Trees. Fur is something that many animals have. It is not a kind of tree, however.

  • Is that what you call a "zinger?" ^_^

  • Lol, my bad. Dont you pronounce it the same?

Are you trying to tell me that those triangular-cylindrical thingamatrees are pines?

  • I'm not Christian but it is my understanding that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus, not his birthday. People dont think Christmas is Jesus's actual birthday do they?

When I was in elementary school I remember this being an issue because the music teacher decided to go with a christmas carol that was all about Jesus being born with the 3 kings and such. When I came home singing about Jesus, my dad got pissed off. Stick to the Jingle bells and frosty and you don't offend pple.

  • Most people do think its his birthday, actually. Thats why we have this yearly battle with the Christians wanting to "claim" the day of Christmas, and deny any other use for it (Solstice, etc).

I don't have any problem with carols of a religious sort being sung in schools, so long as they are not the primary focus. There should be songs from many groups sung, rather than just Jesus songs. I'd have loved to have sung the dradle (sp?) song in school.

  • no.

  • I'm a quebecer (canadian). I was raised as a catholic and when I was young, I really enjoyed everything around christmas.

And now I'm atheist and somekind disgusted by the commercial way of celebrating the solstice. But all the light, music and familly stuff is still someting I enjoy.

But nobody should be forced to celebrate christmas as a religious holyday. It should simply be a time for parties and family for everybody, no regard to religion.

  • no nativity, but you MUST sing?!

  • And it better be good, or we'll strap your nuts to a car battery NAM POW-style!

Yeah, it sounds like these Tea-bagging loons are trying to hold onto the idea that we're an eternally Judeo-Christian nation and whatever other crazy things they can attach to it.

  • If it's to promote and force religion, fuck it!

The religious right-wing is just a bunch of hypocrits.

  • See, these people only want the govt out of our lives when it agrees with their beliefs (that they shouldn't be taxed), but when it comes to the govt forcing Chrisitanity on children it's fine. When it comes to forcing their ways on gay people they're all for it. When it comes to controlling whether pregnant women can have abortions they're all behind that.

  • Move these damn people to another country.

  • You know, I have no issue with mandatory Christmas Caroling, as long as there's mandatory Hannukah Singing and Eid festivities (lets kill a lamb lmao) and whatever the the hell the Hindus do lol.

  • And a mandatory 2 hour lecture on atheism and the horrors of organized religion given by Chris Hitchens.. Then we're even ;D

  • religion ruins everything

  • you said it

  • thanks and probably the only reason they indorse christmas is because the can make some money off of it

  • i detect double think

  • I sang Christmas carols all the time in school. I think it's kind of odd that schools don't do it anymore. But, it's not 1965 anymore, either (showing my age, sorry...)

  • Were you a Christian?

We sang Christmas Carols in school as well but we weren't forced. If it was against your religion (we did have a Jehovah's Witness in our class) you were able to opt out.

  • even the catholic church agrees that december 25th is not the real birthday of jesus, and i think if ya have to sing christmas carolls they should have to sing songs from all the religions

  • Oh gawd here we go again. What happened to the good old days, oh wait it's trying to make a comeback but at the most terrifying alarming rate ever.

  • The only carol I like is Bruce Springsteen's rendition of Santa Clause Is Coming To Town. I wish more carolers would sing that song.

  • so much for the teabaggers being about freedom.

  • @whitewolf323

The word freedom has became a joke. Like terrorist or unamerican. Used and abused.

  • Bullshit, Jesus was a real person, just not necessarily the son of god. what proof do you have to say he DIDN'T exist at all?
