@eliteshadowfiend it wasn't traced. when people draw realistically, they often make an outline before shading or coloring. i make an outline as well. besides, there are some slight differences and you can tell it's not traced.

Well I think color pencils are all about layering. I go from my lighter colors to my darker ones and also keep in mind what colors you want to show through more than others. For example, in Jacob's skin I started with a sort of light yellow then a little bit of my peach colors then my browns. His skin is brown so I left that for last so it would show more.Its also the darkest color in his skin.

Sorry if this doesn't help. I'm not very good at explaining ^_^'

Just use a darker shade of whatever color you're using. I don't know what kind of color pencils you use but the ones I use [Prisma] have a large variety of shades. Like for brown, there would be dark brown, sienna, light umber, dark umber.. etc. Prismas are quite pricey but they're what most artists use. I think a set of 48 is about $40. They also sell each pencil separately if you run out of a certain color.

Keep practicing! It's the only way to improve. You'll eventually see changes little by little.

I use Prisma color pencils. I definitely recommend them if you're not already using them.

Well...I guess it's a matter of preference. With color pencils, you have to deal with layers so I like to go from light to dark and I found the more layers you use the more realistic your drawing will look. In the skin I always see a hint of yellow so I usually start off with it and then move on to the peaches and browns. When it comes to other parts like the clothes and hair, I just don't like using the white of the paper for highlights so I put yellow first but sometimes I use blue
