HI, WAT A VIDEO.. A TRULY INSPIRATIONAL VIDEO... REALLY SUPERB.. & TO MR FRD "wingyip" ITS NOT AEROBATIC VIDEO OF TUNDERBIRDS... PLZ SEE IT TO COMPARE WITH BLUE ANGLES...
in very small trainer jets the f16's the tbirds fly can actually be made combat ready in a very short amount of time.i dont think any country in the WORLD would want to go head to head with american pilots in combat.
Red Arrows fly in smaller craft so that they can manoeuvre more effectively, for better tricks. Yes the thunderbirds are very good at what they do, and quite impressive, but I don't think I agree with your comment about air combat. The RAF is second to noone. You really think an F16 would be able to pull one over the harrior? If you don't know what the harrior is, I suggest you look it up. Its capable of a lot more than any regular fighter jet.
its a harrier not a harrior...and an F-16 wouldnt have too much trouble with it...its more maneuverable...faster...better technology...there's a reason so many other countries bought it.
The harrier is the veritcal take off Jet fighter and you cannot make a good Jet fighter which can take off vertically.F-16's they are badass. You dont want to play with them. Its totally a weapons platform.
I attended the Air Show in Rochester yesterday and today. It pure awesome. I really enjoyed the whole show but I loved the #5 Jet flown by Maj. Samantha Weeks/lead solo because she is from Rome NY where I a live not that far away.
Red Arrows can not even come close with the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds. richardandeddie that had to be the most retarded thing ive heard. The reason why The Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels have had crashes is because they fly in alot closer formations then any other teams and they are alot more daring. If you havent seen them perform and your talking shit your wasting my time and everyone elses. Bottomline Blue Angels and Thunderbirds are the best in the world!
First of all, the red arrows used trainer aircraft in their demos. The Thunderbirds and Blue Angels used actual fighter aircraft that have seen combat to demonstrate the performace and reliablity of the F-18 and F-16. And speaking about crashes, all flight demonstration teams have seen their fair share of incidents including your beloved red arrows.
I have never stepped foot in America, but I can tell you now the Thunderbirds are the BEST in the WORLD the Blue Angels are right behind them, though. Although the RSAF Black Knights of Singapore are also awesome. Search them up.
I have never stepped foot in America, but I can tell you all right now... The Thunderbirds are defenitly the best in whole universe. The Blue Angels are just behind.
With that comment, I can't help but think you are an American!

Great clip!... thi is Awesome! a female Fighter pilot and in Demo Team!.... Salute to every womens and moms everywhere!! and Thanks for sharing the video, 5stars alltheway! Woohoo!...
Thunderbirds do a great show ... the only inhibiter is they are required to follow rigid FAA regulations--that may be the reason why some foreign demonstration teams appear abit more daring.
well join to airforce and go to pilot school. graduate at the top of your class, pick to fly f-16's. become amazing. put in a request to be picked. get lucky. and get picked.
AGREED! Thunderbirds have proven themselves time and time again. They are unbelievable, I've seen the Red Arrows and the Snow Birds. In Reno each year some of them come down for the Championship Airshows and ive experianced them all, But every year the Thunderbirds just surprise everyone.
Well having seen the Red Arrows, Snowbirds, Frecce tricolori, Patroille de france, snowbirds, thunderbirds, and the blue angels can say that the Thunderbirds are second to last..last place going to the Blue Angels. Thunderbirds best display is when the pilots go through their silly ground routine, then go off and fly diamond formations over, and over, and over..yawn.
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I find afterburners to be very amusing. I believe only two of those teams have them. Sneak pass... whoa look out, gets me everytime. Nothing quite like a good old fighter blowing by you at like 500kts with full burner at like 500 ft. Beats the hell out of those piddly-ass trainers those Europeans/Canadians be usin.
There is no way the Red Arrows are as good as the Blue Angels or Thunder Birds. Every Red Arrows video I watch shows no tricks, only them flying in formation.
your entitled to your opinion but please come and see the red arrows before you make assumptions and dont forget there are no automatic systems in a hawk
bloody brilliant but u carnt beat the red arrows thats how the thunderbirds started but there second best and bloody gd(but not as gd as the red arrows lol)
Not so. The Thunderthuds rely on G-suits. the Angels use pure talent and skill. No G-suits!
No G-suits result in better, tighter, safer formations. The Angels have a better safety record, They have 2 engines, can land on a carrier, and are combat qualified. and the F/A-18 the Angels use can be combat ready in less than 24 hours.
honestly ive never heard of t-birds until TODAY ive heard of em from a blue angels comment so ive probably never herd of em cuz i see the miramar air show(blue angels is the main show)
Hello ... The F-22 already does do demonstrations, and the F-35 will too, in time. As for either being the jet of choice for the Thunderbirds, that is an interesting prospect.
THIS IS SO COOL when i grow up i wanted to be a pilot but not any pilot i want to be a thunder bird its so cool flying so close to each other and impressing people especially me thanks you people for inspiring me you guys are the best and the F-16 is the best!!!
Where can I find info on the 1980's T-38 Talon crash of the entire diamond formation? I was in Reno for one of their first shows with their F-16's, I got all choked up, it was great. Randolph AFB 1968, I saw them fly their F-105 Thunderchief's, best air show jet ever.
I just got my DVD of this documentary and I really enjoyed it.. had some very touching moments and explains alot of things that happen behind the scenes prior to the shows..
Hello ... The documentary will be on public television affiliates during the fall. The premiere is August 21, so after that it will broadcast. Thank you, Dennis
Flying in formation is used by every airforce, not only thunderbirds, so it must be an "instrumental shortcut" for the perfection that shows.
Another example is when they fly in a V-formation, and turn. If they turn to the left for example, the planes to the right gets a higher altitude than the plane to the left for example. In this situation, how do they do it?
Someone who knows, i'd appreciate a reasonably answer;)
Formation flying in turns involves use of power settings by all involved as well as less or more control inputs. The outer aircraft in a left turn would power up a bit since will travel a greater distance through the turn, and will bank more and use more rudder to hold position.
The pilots learn to fly "Cheats". What this is is a small change to the "Diamond" or "Delta" to make the formation look proper from the ground. In some cases the the #2 jet might fly closer to the diamond and at the same time the #3 jet flies a little bit further from the diamond. You are correct in the fact that the outside jet has to power up slightly as the inside jet has to power back slightly to stay in formation. I am an ex team member from 1983-1986.
Ok HOW do they fly so tight, with so good control?
And HOW long time does it take before they have a diamond formation for example?
What I'm asking about, is what instrument does help them, as Autopilot IAS, takes alot of time, like 1-2 minutes, to get 100% stabil at the speed you want.. Of course they practice alot, its not that, but does someone know, Which instruments, and how are they used to do this? Same goes for the "team-roll".
All pilots fly off the Commander/Leader who is using his Head-Up Display to read altitude, airspeed, attitude, and ascent-descent rate data projected there. The other pilots do not look into the cockpit during formation maneuvers.
Campbell Media Group currently is working to have it on the affiliates of public television this Fall 2007. Go to Thunderbirds 50 to learn the e-mail address where you can request to be put on an unpdates' list.
