I just heard the I'd Like To Visit The Moon and almost cried. I did not see that coming..... I remember that and the rubber ducky song so much. I need to stop watching these or I;ll fill a bucket.
I don't like John's Ernie, it sounds too squeaky and unnatural (nothing at all like Jim's Ernie, IMO). Steve's Ernie (and Kermit) may not be on par with Jim's, but his performance is natural and professional.
@MuppetVoicesAndMore Is it true that Ernie i think originally sounded like Rowlf in the 1st test show? i heard you can watch it on the Sesame Street old school vol.2 dvd, but i dont have it so im not sure.
@disneynut06 In my opinion, John's sounds like a bad impression of Jim's Ernie. Steve's sounds similar to Jim's, but original at the same time. That's what I like about Steve's Kermit and Ernie.
If you heard the voice of Dave Goelz voicing the Peter Cratchit Muppet in Muppet Christmas Carol, it sounds, to me, similar to that of Jim Henson's Ernie. They should have had Dave Goelz take over Ernie's voice.
@MichaelBrookham Actually, Dave Goelz didn't perform Peter Cratchit, David Rudman did. And yes, the voice used does sort of resemble Ernie, (but to me it sounds more like Jim's Baby Kermit from Muppets Take Manhattan.)
And besides, the workshop doesn't just pick someone and say "you're performing Ernie now!". If a performer wants to take over a character they have to audition for it, and Steve Whitmire was the first to audition.
Side note: Dave Goelz HATES performing other people's characters.
Question: Did Dave Goelz do the voice of Statue Ernie in Sesame Street's "Ernie and Bert explore a Pyramid" skit? The Statue of Ernie sounded a lot like Beauregard from the Muppet show (who was voiced by Dave Goelz). I ask that, too, because Dave wasn't a regular performer on Sesame Street. I think there are some who believe that it was Dave Goelz who did the voice.
It sounds like it, but I wouldn't believe it because the only Sesame Street season Dave Goelz performed in was Season 24 (1992-1993). In that season, he has performed characters like Pino (in a Waiter Grover sketch), The Elephant Elevator Operator, Mr. Between, Tom Piper's son, Rocky, and a china shop salesman.
@MuppetVoicesAndMore Sorry, I had thought it was Dave Goelz who voiced Peter Cratchit on Muppet Christmas Carol. I knew I had a David, but the wrong one.
Why is Ernie talking to GLaDOS?

Obviously Henson's is the best. He invented the character and the voice.

Just to ask, in the second season of Play With Me Sesame, why did John Tartaglia perform Ernie? Was Steve Whitmire busy or something?

I gotta wonder how Jim did that laugh. He even had Kermit and Lenny do it during the Inchworm Sketch when the second worm shows up, right?
NaiTaiDai 4 months ago 3
@NaiTaiDai I can actually do a fair imitation of the Ernie laugh. Its fun. And yes, he did use the voice on the original Kermit and Lenny.

John's Ernie sounds eerily similar to Jim's, but Jim and Steve are the best Ernie's.

To me, Steve Whitmire does a great job with Ernie as well as Kermit and his own characters (Rizzo, Wembley Fraggle, Sprocket).

@TheaterServant Because from 3:07 - 3:41 Eric Jacobson is performing Bert.

Really, I never knew that. He has been performing Waldorf for so long now. I would have thought he'd be more comfortable in that role.

Dave Goelz doesn't like performing other people's characters? But after Jim Henson died, he took over Waldorf, didn't he? So how can he hate it?
MrMetalmanRock 5 months ago
@MrMetalmanRock Yeah, he stated in a couple interviews that most performers don't like performing other people's characters something.
Yes, he did take over Waldorf in 1992, probably our of respect and gratitude to Jim, and for the sake of The Muppets Christmas Carol (my favorite).
If you watch "David Goelz and Gonzo prt 2" on YouTube, he talks about it a little bit in that.

@MuppetVoicesAndMore
If you have to audition to take over a character, I bet the Jim Henson Company or whoever owns the Muppets now does the same thing. Don't they?

Jim Henson = Classic
Steve Whitmire = Okay
John Tartaglia = Sounds too much like Goofy
