That's awesome!! Any numbers on mileage after the mod? How much did all of this cost? Can you do a schematic of the device?
I know it's a lot to ask, but i'm thinking it is very much worth modding the good ol' F this way. The lack of torque between idle and 3krpm is what sealed the deal for me..
One more thing: Do you think applying this mod is better than getting a GS? I'm thinking the whole deal, minus assembly (assuming i can do it myself) will still take me to around 500E..
Thing is, i love my '96 Funduro, i'm not exactly thrilled by the GS (maybe because there are too many electrical parts, too many chances for something to go wrong)..
Nevertheless, you've done an amazing job, you have my deepest respect for getting so involved in such a project!
I agree, there are so many little bits that can go wrong, not very reliable.
However, if you ever consider of buying a GS, the models 2004-2005 are very much improved and very reliable, especially 2005 where the twin-spark on COPs came back in place.
what a job.. incredible.. and i said this b/c i know what is to replace and modified parts on funduro or A F650.... GREAT JOB,, I MAY DO THIS ON MY 99.

This is an attempt to make my bike running better, in terms of linear engine response and if possible the same or better mileage.
You guessed right, the total cost is around 500€ in parts,
plus countless hours of testing and tuning.
This is NOT an attempt to substitute a GS.
GS has a far better cylinder-head and combustion chamber,
making possible 6kgm of torque and a mileage of 400km,
which is very difficult to archive @home.
Needless to say, nobody can compete the BMW R&D.

pretty sick man! not sure it's appropriate for a F or a thumper but still it's quite some piece of tinkering!

While on carbs, the bike was boiling in the traffic, had no torque between idle and 3000rpm and a lower gear was always necessary.
Now it feels and runs like a GS, it is stronger and smoother, runs cooler and I never need to drop a gear to accelerate.
All these without any dyno based tuning, yet.
Believe me, this is far more appropriate than the original.
