you think that is unlucky...... just today i lost my wallet, got my sister fired from a job, found out UPS lost my package in the mail, and broke one of my fancy plates but the best part was...... it all happened in the same hour :(
this guy is a straight up idiot, he pulls the break away handle instead of the main chute... then when he finally finds the reserve chute he doesn't know how to steer his parachute
This has nothing to do with BAD LUCK.... It is called not listening to what you have been told by your instructor/s Ie; Pulling your cutaway handle instead of your pilot chute and not using your toggles to guild yourself away from the Hazard he was heading straight towards.
As you can see at 0:25 the instructor is trying to get his hand to the BACK of his rig to deploy the pilot chute (which deploys the main parachute). But the student fights and pulls his parachute CUT AWAY handle at 0:28 instead (see that red handle he grabs?)... like an idiot. This is why his parachute "breaks away." The cut away handle he pulled is only to be used if his main parachute fails.
I'm a skydiver and I'm HAPPY AS HELL that this guy isn't jumping anymore.
Hahaha, the music cue at 0:33 is awesomely inappropriate
Forget danger music, or something with a sense of impending doom and emergency. No, when you see your life flashing before your eyes in the face of near-certain death: heavy metal.
Look at the pull closer, he pulls the red cutaway handle located on the right lift web. The instructor pulled the actual ripcord to activate the canopy opening. Instructors may not have seen the cutaway pulled, if they had left side instructor could have pulled the reserve handle. Skydiving can be a dangerous sport, and is not for the timid... gotta keep your head about ya when doing this. Blue skies
This guy should get a Darwin award.... he should have never tried to do his AFF program what a moron i couldnt tell you how much instructors have you do "practice" handle pulls to know where your handles are and practicing EP's "emergency procedures" in which you learn which handles to pull in the correct order.....
This was all fake ... i mean it was not staged buit scott is suck a fucktard ,,, they told him at landing that he pulled the ripaway cord but he denied it so he could sell it to media ... so he really sucks
this guy has no clue what he is talking about lol. There was no malfunction in the parachute lol and he never saw a full round parachute and hes just plain retarded for flying into powerlines
That Stupid seperated his canopy (0:28) instead of pulling it. The instructor pulled the main canopy (0:29) not knowing, that the student seperated the main canopy already. Not finding a place to land and choosing a powerline instead of an open field is more than I can bear. There are poeple out there that shouldn't skydive...

@marleyanddalton "I don't think that i'd ever skydive after that...."
Why not? this is actualy a example of skydiving equipment functioning perfectly. He didnt deploy the chute, he pulled his cutaway handle which disconnected his chute as its designed to do. If it didnt "rip off" then it would have been a case of gear malfunctioning. Also his reserve was open and flying but he simply didnt steer it. Scott lutz caused this accident himself and blatantly lied about it for profit.
@araminaganda no luck involved. The gear didnt fail, he pulled his cutaway handle which disconnected his own parachute in freefall as its designed to do. The reserve also had nothing wrong with it, he failed to steer it.
luck had nothing to do with it... instructor pulled for him as he'd had a brain mal, he pulls cutaway, chute gone. My question is why this student rig didn't have an RSL?
And he was object fixated. never even tried to turn away from the danger, he had heaps of time...
skydiving is perfect to study darwin awards... some people just suck at life...
This has nothing to do with luck. The "cord" that scott clutz pulled was his cutaway handle which disconnected his own main canopy (as it is designed to do). He also failed to steer away from the powerlines even though there was a large clear field to land in. The gear did not fail it worked exactly as directed by the operater (scott lutz).
Scott would have been thouroughly debreifed about his mistakes but he still chose to blatantly lie about it for a TV appearance.
He's not unlucky, he's a freaking moron. That's what happens when you pull the cutaway handle before you deploy. Good riddance. The sport is better off without him.
aff level one.....not a chute malfunction....lot going on up there the first time around trust me and mistakes are just mistakes...but operator error should never be blamed on a malfunction...makes the sport look worse than it really is.
looks more liek the idiot cut away whilst the instructor deployed his main . and bullshit thye dont teach you what to do if your canopy doesnt come out im a skydiver and emergency drills are pounded into ya. He f*cked up and cant admit it basically
He grabbed (and pulled) his cut-away handle instead of the main "ripcord" which did exactly as it should have done and jettisoned his main when the instructor deployed his main for him. The instructor should have seen that happen. Big mistake on their part.
Falling to earth at that speed, past a critical pre-set hight, would cause his reserve to automatically deploy (a compulsory safety device) so he wasn't about to plough into the ground at 120mph.
It's pretty clear that he's clueless. The instructor has to grab his hand and FORCE it towards his chest to get him to deploy. Then as you say, he still screwed it up.
@mmin3s well all what i wanna say is... what the FUCK!?!!?!?! how can you be so unlucky and so lucky at the same time and guess what... it FUCKING happened TWICE... TWICE!??!!??! what is he?!?!? SUPERMAN!?!?!?
@torentazos there was no luck involved. Scott lutz lied, he can be clearly seen to pull his cutaway handle instead of his ripcord and disconnected his own main parachute.
@torentazos he probably just made an inoccent mistake, its not uncommon for people to get sensory overload and pull their cutaway. He wasnt the first or the last but in his case he lied about it afterwards for profit (they would have debriefed him so its not a case of ignorance)
Actually guys you can touch the lines with as many parts of your body as you want because there is no earth connected. But as soon as you touch the ground there is then a earth connection causing currunt to flow through your body.
there's a video somewhere here were an indian guy in indian on top of a stationary train grabs the power line directly above him with one hand and got toasted. insane stuff.
no you can touch a power line with only 1 hand but not 2, the only reason that birds or squirrels dont die when they touch power lines is because there isnt a big enough potential difference from the current continuing through the line compared to it going through its body, but humans are much bigger so the potential difference is much greater.
Actual ground, so basically when the current runs through you, touches ground and ofc the cable is connected to ground so you're disrupting the circuit
I don't believe in good luck or bad luck. What happened happened by chance and was unlikely of course. But that doesn't mean that luck had anything to do with his survival.

Again... this video is a lie and has nothing to do with luck.
Scott Lutz disconnected his own parachute. The red handle on his chest is his cutaway cable not his ripcord.
His reserve functioned perfectly and was completely able to be steered away from the power lines. Scott failed to steer it.
The chute did not rip off, the gear functioned as Scott directed it to and the instructors did as required. Scott Lutz was completely at fault.
