Quicksilver Tutorial v2.0

It doesn't show a text box when i type period, it doesn't find my itunes songs and doesn't show the song (I can navigate through the playlists and then select: show file) a song if I ask it to. and my self-made command for the built-in script "show song info" doesn't work.

It COULD be great, but for me, it DOESN'T do a lot of things.

bfsd78 is also right: there are already a lot of keyboard shortcuts for the finder, you could as well learn those.

LOL, you always choose the hardest way to do something without Quicksilver to make it as if it's really hard without Quicksilver.

You know you can navigate the finder easily as well right? So instead of dragging the file and let it open each folder one by one, quickly navigate through the folder you want from finder, then drag the file inside it.

Tips for navigating in Finder: you can type up to 3 alphabets to quickly find the folder you want then Cmd+down arrow to enter.

I don't find the option you've mention "Email Send". It only shows "Email Compose". Is there something I did wrong?

I'm trying to use quicksilver to control itunes, it works just using hot keys, but when i use quicksilver to search artist, then select a song, tab over, and select play, then hit enter, Nothing happens, what am i doing wrong?

I just went to add all Plugins like the video says, but now QuickSilver fails to run. It tries to startup but there is some plugin that must be failing and now I can't use QS. :( Help

Quite interesting to watch the elapsed time during the "move files" demo. It takes 12 seconds in Finder, but 20 in QS. I knew there was a reason that I didn't use QS for managing my files.

Then again, if I want rich file manipulation, I'll use the command line.

For a while I couldn't get past square one with this: opening the home folder, but then I realised that it wasn't "ampersand" (&) at all, but the ~ key that was required!

quicksilver is withering on the vine. i moved on to launchbar 5 beta. it does 95% of what quicksilver does and is much more stable and fast. quicksilver is a lot sloppier and broken since it went open source.

launchbar is progressing while quicksilver is just trying to keep it's head above water with osx updates.

quicksilver in it's day was the best program for the mac PERIOD!

Haha this is great, QS does a lot of stuff, this shows some of them and very well, but sadly I only use QS to lauch apps, saves me time from going to the App Folder and look for it =)

I just tried to use the append function. Period > typed Text > "append" > chose text file and hit Return. Result: The No-Can-Do sound and QS closed. Nothing was appended. No message why.

Reason why append doesnt work is that's not saved as plain text by default, point to a default plain txt file and append works perfectly

Yes by default texteditor can't save files in plain text but you can click on layout->export the text as plain and then adding text will work fine.

Is it possible to find every mp3 in my Music folder? I tried searching for a bunch and they didn't show up although my Prive folder was added to the Catalog. So I found the file via Spotlight and played it. Searched again in QS and it didn't show up. After playing it a couple of times QS suddenly found the file but only this one, not any other mp3s when searchign for them.

When I try to append a file, I get the little beep (the kind when you get an error) and the file doesn't change. Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks for this video. Part 1 and Part 2 unlocked many of the mysteries surrounding QS for me. There were things I was wishing Quicksilver could do but didn't. Thanks to your tutorials I now know that it CAN do what I wished it could.

Although with Leopard and QS β54 (3815), the e-mailing file example doesn't seem to work quite as the video describes.

thats not quicker. you had it in list mode, you can view icons like symbols. you could drag the file on the desktop right to where you want it. draging things is was easyer then this quicksilver thing. am i wrong? tell me how im wrong....

you are not wrong man, i've downloaded this program for a day now and have been trying to see how its faster. when i want a file, i know where all of them are already. just every once in a while, reoganize your folders and u don't need this. this isn't faster for most thing. if u want a photos folder, just open up finder, type photos, and it comes right up, BAM! also, if u use spotlight, its even less hasslte. but seriously, open a finder window, type in folder want, Bam, its there.

with sending mail; i only get the compose option - there is only 1 option, in comparison to your 4 or 5.

You have to enable the Send option in the Quicksilver preferences menu. Go to Preferences > Actions > Email Addresses and then check the box for Send Directly.

when i type delete, "erase" does not pop up. even if i type the whole word. is there a system setting for allowing you to delete a file w/o sending it to the trash first? if so, what is it? thanks.

Quicksilver -> Preferenses -> Actions -> All actions -> Check number 40, "Delete (Erase)"

in the newest version of quicksilver, you hold down tilde (/) to get to your home directory instead of &.

"&" doesn't seem to work for me so I tried searching for "Home" and pressed return. Safari, on my Mac, opens up and take me to a site that is not my Safari home page and I've never visited - the Microsoft Home Users site!

The videos are very good but i wish I could get the image bigger and clearer without going to full screen. The symbol is i htink the ampersand which is "&" but it didn't get my home folder. It seems to only get the folder app I want after I've manually shown QS just what and where it is.

So in file manipulation, dragging is error-prone. So you show how you go to the blog folder, by typing. Except you spell blog "bolg". Oh yeah, that's so much better.
