  • Vic doing a how to toon (like in cartoon) your bass live when your tuner quit on you in the middlle of a performance. This boy's BAD !!! aka GOOD.

  • @1:16, take it easy mate

  • And this is how Victor tunes his bass everyday.

  • you guys don't know anything... victor's not a bass player... he's a bass GOD!

  • APELIKE!!!!

  • like playing drums

  • santeri pystyis tohon

  • IF you can get a string tuned that low and make it sound awesome, well you're just that awesome.

  • ...And still to this day you may hear the sound of screaming bass guitar from the talented Victor Wooten. Caution: Good music in the distance.

  • 4:45 old vid :p

  • is that bass yelling?

  • @labanx he is definitely on that level. maybe above that. the bass chose to detune itself before he did that. he is the man

  • he is definitely on that level. maybe above that. the bass chose to detune itself before he did that. he is the man

  • I really like Wooten but nothin to hear there, only strange noise :S

  • The bass was pretty out of tune at the end. I guess he is on a level where that was a choise?

  • WHERE IS THE FIRST PART?!?!?! Ò_ó

  • ooo cara toca muitooo ...

  • what in God's name just happend o_0?? out of tune and he still sounds good

  • rei do contra baixo!!!!!

  • i like the part when he plays out of tune

  • Victor has the emotion.. victor rocks!!! maybe we can call him jimi hendrix of the bass guitar.. :D

  • Nossa mas esse cara é tão bom que mesmo com as cordas frouxas ele tira um bom som

    Poucos tem essa habilidade

  • i think he had a seizure for 1 part...

  • He's black.

  • I bet he was like, "well now that i'm all tuned up, i can start my solo."

  • this is the first time I see a video of a bass being tuned really low and it not being "metal". I do not even like funk but this is really awesome and even abstract. great

  • he seems to get a bit lost at 1:40 - 2:30 or so?? still awesome

  • @THIRSTYGUMS he also seemed to have had a couple of seizures...

  • sweet. victory

  • that's freacking bizare...he's not human...still, its awesome

  • LOOK AT HIS FACE. HE IS ORGASMING FOR FIVE MINUTES STRAIGHT.

  • wowwwwwwww

  • WHAT THE FACK how did you tune it ?! so good T.T

  • everything else was too easy for him. this is just him giving himself a little challenge and having some fun. Love it!

  • that's what you cool the feeling of rhythm.

  • i love the weird sounds that the bass makes

  • can hear a pin drop....its like this every time vic plays...every time...

  • kinda weird :D

  • undeniably brilliant, but would i buy a cd in which the bass was like this, no

  • @theoctopusisgod This is the second half of a song. Somewhere on youtube is the first half. You can hear the melody at the end. It makes sense when you hear it in context.

  • @jazzgtrplayer yeah, he did this at bass day 2001, but that Hudson Music company took it off youtube for copyright reasons. :(

  • lol wtf.. so badass but so weird.

  • thts insane

  • il iu grande del mondo. the big in the world!

  • he's killin me with the whiole, tuning his bass as part of the damn performance!!.. lol... the crowd is sooooooo quiet... nuthin to say.. just listen and let the man do his thing...

  • Awesome!!!

  • wooten rules

  • Were this any other bass player, someone would've said "worst bass solo ever."

But this is Victor, a deity of the bass world, so everything he does is enlightened and superior...

  • @wcr4

you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about -.-

  • @wcr4 if you can do it all you earn the right to experiment.

  • @wcr4 show any other bass player doing something like this;)

  • @Skyuss666 He's been playing bass since he was 8, so at least 30 years ( I have no clue about his age) along with growing up with siblings as musicians too.

  • @Dlaybassmaster hes actually been playing bass since age 2.... he learned to double thumb when he was like 5 man.... hes lightyears ahead of most for obvious reasons

  • @Dlaybassmaster he opened for Curtis Mayfield when he was 5 (with the Wooten Bro's). He's been playing since about 2 years old. He's 46 now. I was in his class last week and he told us crazy stories about his upbringing on the road.

  • Holy Shit ! This fuckin amazing... He even change his G string during solo !!!! WHAT THE FUCK !!!!

  • this is extremely hard i dont know if i could even come close.... but at the end the bass was not all the way tuned... the e string was flat a lil bit... still like i said the fact that he got it this close is amazing

  • I swear this man has perfect Tone jed.. How many people can start with a totally bugged out bass for drum play and tune it during play never stopping a single sec, gets back perfect tone then shreds it again..

He just basically played an 8 string bass solo on 4 strings. lol xD God of Bass Jazz FTW?

  • not only does it take skill to play that, but think of the originality it takes to even think up of something that great.

  • Oh so good.. A mighty fine player

  • he is soooooo fucking awesome!!!

    godlike!

  • i bet he is much nicer and more cordial than god...

  • what is he playing at the end

  • @Acidfrostomg Reminiscence - can be found on Flecktones Little Worlds.

  • @Acidfrostomg Its a flecktones song but cant remember what its calles

  • And that my friends, Is how Victor Wooten tunes his bass

  • wtf? JAJJAJAJA

  • this man is officially a wizard, i swear anyone else doing what he just did, it would sound shit, but him, no no no, he pulls it off, we are in the presence of a god here people

  • Have seen Victor 3 times with Bella Fleck.

He is flat out crazy good and so is the whole band.

  • hahaha that was epic

  • O.O at 1:15-18

  • genius. Absolute genius

  • Its about percusive you dumb ass people,. Was freaking great

  • really the best bassist in the world.

  • @morphastor :))) ha ha ha ha ha, there is no such thing as "the best bassist" !!!!

  • @ghitaciprian yes there is bro

  • really cool

  • he's the no. 1 spastic of bass guitar

  • kick ass...

  • He don't use any digital tuner. You should go buy hes grooveshop dvd and start to listen to music.

A digital tuner lol you don't know him at all newb hes listening to the sound and the feeling he wants it to be.

" If playing bass(or music) was a language then you might agree that everyone got is own way to learn it and express emotion or ect...and you gotta listen to yourself too if you wanna make sure express it right, he just have a damn good grammar lol thats all:p

  • Rockenmusic101,

He DOESN'T have a digital tuner with him. He does it completely on his own, otherwise his eyes wouldn't be closed the whole time.

The three higher strings are somewhat tuned in place, the lowest string was a gamble.

  • What's the name of the song he does at the end?

  • @SjeikJoriz Reminiscence - can be found on Flecktones Little Worlds.

  • rockenmusic101 you don't even know who is victor wooten. Not at all He just listen to the sound of it. Victor don't need that digital tuner with green ,yellow, red lights. Go buy hes groove shop DvD and LISTEN!!!

  • do you know who are you talking about?? do you know this guy? and why all the people stood up after he played? Man, google Victor Wooten, check him out and then think again what you just said!!!

    what about Absolute pitch?

  • woah, wat a cool sound, wat effects does he use?

  • hes not using any effects at all

  • at the end: just sliiiiiighgltyyyy out of tune, ;-D nearly full-> you can see it on his face at the end .... I saw another version of him where he ended up superbly well fine tuned.

This was a blast!!! loved it!

  • yayaaaa victa

  • people can criticize this, or absolutely love this. BUT! What other bass player have you seen do this?

  • i can actually do this, but no where near as entertaining as victor does it.

  • what the hell is with al the buttons? pls help somebody lol

  • definitive HIS bass god geetarmaster21

  • this is the closest i've seen him get to getting perfectly in tune.

  • He was sooo close to having his bass tuned to perfection. How did he do that?

  • awesome! but if you didnt know this guy and you saw this you would think its very clever, very inventive rythms and blah blah technical wank. If you really wanna see what this guy can do watch him jam with his bro or check out his other vids! Victor wooten is a god!

  • well holy shit, Ive never heard that before, feel the music, taken literally

  • part drum, part bass, part guitar..... pure genious

  • music is not what you wanna hear but what you hear, victor wooten the perfection on earth.

  • That is amazing!!!

  • awesome !!!!

  • I love Vic but I'm glad he got out of this phase of soloing and got back to harmony on the bass.

  • genious

  • Petrobaixista:Music is not only what sounds well in our ears....music is firstly work of the mind..and Victor knows that (very) well!

  • Vic gets deep into it because he no longer thinks 'play the instrument' - he just plays whatever music comes to him. I must admit though his usual detuning/percussive adventure is a little lost on me if he goes on too long :)

  • man vic sure can groove ha

  • Music can be all percussion too

  • Music is like a language, and just because you don't understand all languages doesn't mean it's not a language.

  • His bass wasn't in tune at the end... =[

  • well lets c u do all that and get it perfectly in tune

  • I don't think it was supposed to be.

  • Sounds innovative!

  • I know alot of people are going to rag on the video but what vic just showed is that he has mastered his craft rymthmically and melodically

  • i agree
