  • I wanna live in Finland :(

  • Я час пыталась разучить данную песню и от этого получила кучу позитива!! Пела песню, привыкала к произношению, спасибо огромное!!

  • Rakastan tätä laulua rakkaudesta tällä kielellä..:)

  • i dont understand but i love this songs.....

  • En tiedä missä meet Ö

  • Чудно

  • HA, AND THEY SAID I WOULD LIKE KPOP! GO THIS SONG!

  • I read that finnish has 16 grammatical cases, times 2, for gender. Add to that, dialects from south, north and eastern Finland. Surely a rich country, in more ways than one. As for metal bands, you come to the right country for raw, nasty metal sounds.

  • Pronounce is quite similar to italian, my native language...

So the only little remaining problem is to learn finnish!

PS: Funny... In finland there aren't only metal singers...

  • Han hyva jos laulaa C.C. Catch laulu, voi suomentaa.

  • you can learn to pronounce finnish... singing songs...but learning the language needs lots of dedication cause its something from other ma puhun suomea mutta se on ihan vaikkea!

  • i love finnish language.

  • This song always made me think that Finland is a little piece of Heaven on Earth. And it is, really <3

  • it still sounds a bit dicky to me.. i do like when it is sung though for some reason, i just think it would be tough to learn

  • oh man you could've at least added a translation of the song because I know it is cool to speak a foreign language but it is even cooler to actually know what you're saying. Good song though and good luck with learning Finnish everyone.

  • @hyppykeppiorava You never hear of Google translate?

  • @Petrander I have - when used between Finnish and any Indo-European language (that is practically any other European language and beyond) the result can be hilarious, but not too informative about the original message ;)

  • @EneriGiilaan Well, I tried and some words aren't translated, but generally it does make sense. I don't think the language family has any impact because of the way Google translate works.

Here are the first few sentences:

"I sit quietly thoughts take me off.

    Vaikeroiden breathe, and I see.

Smile when you looked at me one last time.

I'd give my heart to everything.

    Is there still time? "

    So what does "Vaikeroiden" mean?

  • @Amphioxys Must admit, this makes more or less sense. Here is my take for comparison:

I sit quietly, thoughts take me away/

    I breath whimpering and I see/

Your smile when you looked at me (the) last time/

I'd give everything from my heart/

    Is there still Time?/

Vaikeroida means something like whine, moan whimper, groan, etc.

I must admit it is quite good translation - but it still seems to have problems with more complicated constructs - the line about heart is almost totally F-Upped.

  • @EneriGiilaan

Yes, I also think that Google has problems choosing between the formal and colloquial Finnish. For example, to get the following sentence properly translated:

    "Mä tarviin sua niin."

I had to change it to more formal:

    "Minä tarvitsen sinua niin."

  • @Amphioxys These I get using formal language - should be equal, the latter is IMO somewhat better Finnish though:

'Antaisin minun sydämestäni kaiken' -> 'I'd give my heart for all'

'Antaisin sydämestäni kaiken' -> 'I'd give all my heart'

Doesn't impress me too much - perhaps I'm just too pedant tonight ;)

However to the other direction (that I thought would be harder)

'I would give everything from my heart' -> 'Antaisin kaiken sydämestäni'

Just perfect! I guess I must recalibrate my view ;)

  • @EneriGiilaan The interesting thing is, that the way Google Translate works, it does not analyze the grammar or anything, it just learns from massive amounts of translated texts. Since Finnish is a small language, the translations are of lower quality. Something complicated by the fact that there are two major forms of Finnish.

  • @Amphioxys Yes I understand and agree. However I think there might be an additional problem which I guess is specifically hard to handle with this kind of approach. Finnish has the possibility to construct almost infinite number of new derivations of the words on need - a possibility that is quite frequently used for one word or another. An example (I just read from somewhere) would be hypätä, hyppiä, hypähdellä, hypähdyttää, hypähtää, hypityttää, hypähtämällä, hypeksiä, ... .

  • @EneriGiilaan I disagree that it is infinite. There are many conjugations in Finnish but they can all be represented in a set of tables, but it is still amounts that are calculable by a standard server process. It would probably even give more accurate translations if the grammar was actually analyzed, but as said, this is not how Google Translate operates.

  • @Amphioxys Yes not infinite - that's why I said 'almost infinite'. AFAIK GT is a 'statistical match maker'. That strategy won't work if and when it encounters a new construct - which it inevitably will do with Finnish. New, never before seen, derivations are created all the time, some of which will perhaps not be used ever again, some of which will stick and become part of everyday parlance.

It is better than I thought, but I still remain skeptical whether GT can ever be a reliable translator.

  • @EneriGiilaan Almost infinite is the same as infinite. I think it is just exceptionally large, but still finite and computable. This exceptionally large number of possibilities combined with the exceptionally small number of translated texts makes it a harder job for GT. The solution would be a much larger number of translated texts. I don't think GT will ever be good at translating Greenlandic though.

  • @Amphioxys I grant that you might have good reasons to disagree with me - but to me it seems that you don't quite get my point.

I'm skeptical because I think there will never be large enough base of translated texts to cover the exceptionally large number of regularly but still seldom used derivations, not to speak about new variations appearing all the time. And this is just one problematic issue regarding reliable translation.

Perhaps we just have to agree to disagree and let time tell.

  • i,m in finland whuu!

  • i'm a student in finland from kenya and i've lived in finland for almost a year and i am yet to encounter any racism (although i might be stared at alot because of my colour. i like to think it's cause i'm unique :)

  • im trying to learn finnish and can anyone make it clear to me, is i dont know, en tiedä or minä en tiedä?

  • @HeadlessMonster1996

In that sentence it goes like this:

    I = minä

    dont = en

    know = tiedä

U can use 'en tiedä' or "minä en tiedä', however u like, because the word (wording) "en" tells that ur talking about yourself.

  • @0joku00 Thanks

  • yeah i,m in finland. hey if you want say hello say moi!

  • this is one of the easiest language ever. Me, i learn pretty quickly.

  • finnish. yeah. watching these kinds of videos and reading the comments make me appreciate my native language more :) joskus mä todella vihaan suomen kieltä kun se on niin..ÄÄÄÄ, mut sit...niin. onhan tää nyt harvinaisuus ;)

  • Our racists mostly belong to the Perussuomalaiset party and these guys are somewhat visible.

  • @Chidar

They aren't racist (at least most of them aren't), they just oppose non-European immigration as it creates more problems than solves them.

  • once again, thank you german120366 for posting the video and the lyrics, so i learned another good song in finnish :)

  • FINLAND ROCKS! olen ilonen et oon suomest.

  • sometimes racism is just bad politics what politicks do and thats why its pissed off most of ex. finnish ppl

  • opetelkaa hyvät ihmiset suomen kieltä!!! :D suomi rocks<33 se on tosian aika hankala teijän lausuu ku joillaki kielillä ei oo ä- kirjainta ja ö kirjainta.... mutta suomi on hyvä maa!!

  • liked it....even though i dint undertood a single word...

  • what does finnish sound for you people who doesent understand it, i am from finland i would like to know : ))

  • @MileyAndMandyRules1 sounds very nice for song writing, it could be meaningful lyrics and ryms :) I speak Spanish, and when i hear songs in my language sounds kinda ridiculous (love songs) but finnish sounds more deep i think, not sure how to explain well, just that is not so rough language like german for ex, ooh that one is very rough it always sounds like an insult haha. Finnish, Estonian and Hungarian sounds really nice :)

  • @Steph9737 okei : )) i love spanish, i dont know what it is in that languege it just sound so beautifyl =) but i think that everyone thinks that their own languege sound more stuppid than thous languges they dont understand or speak =) i'm thinking that i could come to spain to fuengirola to escuela filnadesa : ))

  • @MileyAndMandyRules1 Hi! My grandmother is from Finland and she has tried to teach me it so many times, but it is so hard -beautiful, absolutly, but hard! I only know two sayings: mina regusta sinua, and quink apollion kello. I have no idea how they are spelt, so sorry if you have no clue what i wrote. The first one is supposed to be, "I Love You." and the second is supposed to be, "What Time Is It?" I cant wait for my viset out there to meet my family!

  • @luvdemkiddos They are spelled "Minä rakastan sinua" and "Kuinka paljon kello on" (:

  • @MileyAndMandyRules1 Finnish sounds like a very flowing, beautiful language, to me. I only speak English, but I love listening to Finnish music. It sounds very meaningful, for some reason. I don't know how to explain it, but you have a lot of vowels and long words, and they're very pretty to non-speakers. :)

  • i like this song, finnish sounds so great!! :) greets from Panama!!

  • finnish nations, let be together!

  • wow are there this many people who like finnish language?! I had no idea but thats great! =)

  • Perhaps some day we will be only you and me. Maybe everything will find again?

I don't know where are you going. my dreams are lost. I need you so, you left me in deeps. You made my life and you took everything from me.

Is this waiting just pointless or have we still time?

AND BTW read this like first the lowest translation and then keep going to upper, thanks!

  • I am look after your diary. Dust cover the picture of a watch. The key is lost, too ( I can't find it)

I am saving your memories in my mind like a angel. I will delete the demonds on my tears. Have we still time?

I don't know where are you going. my dreams are lost. I need you so, you left me in deeps. You made my life and you took everything from me.

Is this waiting just pointless or have we still time?

  • I am sitting and ideas brings me away. It is hard to breathing and I see your smile when you looked at me the last time. I would give everything from my heart.

    Have we still time?

I don't know where are you going. my dreams are lost. I need you so, you left me in deeps. You made my life and you took everything from me.

Is this waiting just pointless or have we still time?

  • @roselie123 thank you so much (:

  • ow my most of my best friends are black so i cant be too rasist

  • what song is this ??

  • can someone please send me a translation to this song? pleaseeee i would really appreciate it

  • There aren't more racists in Finland than there is elsewhere. Our racists are just more visible because of our confused immigrant policies.

  • @Chidar Hyvin sanottu :D ja netin kaiken maailman facebookit antaa viharyhmille lisää jäseniä, kun niihin on helppo liittyä, eikä tarvi vastata omista sanomisistaan...

  • Comment removed

  • @Chidar Is that so bad? :( Oh, well .. everywhere you'll find racists. Like everywhere you'll find gypsies and drunks xD Anyway, Finnish is the most beautiful language in the world <3 I'd die to know it <3 ..oh, and this song is great <3

  • @Chidar what immigrant groups are there in Finland that receive objections / hostility ?

  • @dreamcastII I don't think any immigrant group has to face much direct hostility. I would imagine that they are subjected to discrimination when they interact with the natives which is partly understandable since immigrants in Finland tend to have troubles in adapting to the Finnish society.

  • @Chidar I'm finnish, and i still have to agree, that there is very many racists in finland, and it sucks to live with 'em. I don't look at the race or skin color, i think that all people should be equals. but finland is a little backward country, so maybe in 20 years or something our people will learn.

  • @haxormies I'm from America, and I have lived in Finland. I think there is safer than my hometown for minorities. :) God bless Suomi <3

  • @yelizaveta8 bet so but meh It's not always So but yeah I live in Finland and i never would move away from here ! SUOMI jeah <3

  • @yelizaveta8 those were beatiful words because i live in finland GOD BLESS YOU!!!!

  • horrible timing with subtitles...

and to that racist thing... I'm from finland...

It's true that many people here are racist, I'm not, but many are, but here are still very much people that aren't racist at all and even have black people as their friends and everything...

I don't like how people generalise things (<- is that correct word.. can't remember)

But yeah, many people don't like black people, but from many people's opinion they are just okay and everything^^

  • @Jarzka92

I think that the younger generation will embrace people of color more than the current generation is. This is simply cause the current generation experience immigrants as intruders while the younger generation(s) were born into a somewhat diverse society.

  • Well Im half finnish and i agree what Dragonmike2690 and weerzer says. And we live in australia and we agree to that when immigrants are coming to australia they are getting so many benefits from the government and they have not worked a day in australia. So yeah i agree u both:)

  • Well, people say that finland is racist. That is pretty true, because people don't like that black people come to our country, and they get straight: Money, Home, Protection, Freedom. And their money, is paid whit OUR taxes. So, that's the reason many people hate black people, that come from somewhere far. Because they get all the money. I'm not racist, i like black people. They are Okay.

  • Saying you or the finnish people are providing for ALL or a majority of immigrants or refugees is bullshit. A small minority of those who come to Finland seeking refuge use welfare. I'm a Finnish citizen, born Finnish and proud. Idiots like yourself make me want to move as what Finland stands and has always stood for is being ruined by people like you. Fuck you.

  • Agree with Weerzer.

  • Pretty true but "OUR taxes" also includes the taxes paid by the working immigrants whom we have a lot. More work/workers, more wellbeing in the society. There are a lot native Finns too who live with the welfares and help of the goverment.

  • @Nickname006

All the immigrants that i know are "early retired" or somehow "unable to work". And if they don't belong to those categories that I just listed, they're are getting their income illegally.. Trust me on this one... :I

  • All the immigrants that you know? That's sounds generalizing to me.

Finnish people are so narrow-minded that most of them won't give jobs to immigrants that are applying for it, even if they would be really proficient and considerable.

I know it's common but we usually only see that side of the immigrants. We don't notice the people that are honestly working and paying their taxes. I know this is a cliche but there are a lot of native Finns too that fit into the categories that you listed.

  • Finns really have this great hatred towards foreigners, I've always wondered why. I think experiencing different cultures is pleasant and nothing to fear and feel hatred towards.

  • That's true. I guess it's coming from our history which has shown that don't trust anyone. And probably the media that spreads a lot of prejudices has a part in this too.

  • @phileustace Please fuck your self , If you don´t like your own brown ugly girls in your sun shine country !

  • WHO IS THIS SINGER/SONG?

  • Now that I read through my translation again I seem to have changed the word order at one point. It should be "the key too is lost". Avain = (the) key. Avainkin = the key too, the key as well.

Note also: kadonnut (kadonneet in the plural) = (the) lost, the missing; kadoksissa = "in the" lost(s). Finnish works like that, but it's just a question of getting used to it. If babies can pick it up, adult learners can too. Exposure is key.

"The key too is missing" is another possible translation.

  • (1:39 chorus again)

(2:01) Maybe someday yet together as two

(2:09) Perhaps all will be found again

    (2:18 chorus)

It's a literal translation retaining the word order etc. Hopefully helpful to learners.

  • (0:59) Am I waiting in vain?

    Or is there still time?

(1:08) I guard [meaning: hold onto] your diary

    Dust covers the cover-image

    The key is lost too

    I can't find it anywhere

(1:21) I protect like an angel your

    memories in my mind

With tears bad spirits I remove/erase

    Is there still time?

  • (0:13) I sit quietly, thoughts take me away Moaning I breathe and see (0:25) Your smile when you looked at me for the last time I would give of my heart all/everything (0:38) Is there still time? (0:43 chorus) I don't know where you're going [meaning: where you are] Daydreams [meaning: hopes] disappeared/vanished (0:47) I need you so You left me in the depths (0:54) You my life made and all/everything from me took
