  • It's the same story with Dream Theater, I prefer my prog to be slightly heavier, eg Anubis Gate. My opinion.

  • this song is fucking greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat!!!!!!!!!

  • This song is so well written.

  • Well, anyway.. I really Like this band but Dream Theater is my All Time fav

  • @ProgThrashDeathCore i heard some new songs and they seem mellow to me no wailing out anymore. whats going on with them i know that have a new drummer . i was expecting super heavy like glass prisonish stuff!!!

  • @GRILLBUOY101 It's Mike Mangini.. He has the record of the World's Faster Drummer, he used to play with Annhilator and Steve Vai. He is really good but I think al DT fans are used to listen Portnoy in the drums. I thing with time Mangini will become even better and it will fit better in the band.

  • There should be mentioning Dream Theater because they are the Prog Kings

  • @GomeBear86 Well, actually not because this band and most of the rest have their own style which has nothing to do with DT's one. Like this one. Or Seventh Wonder, totally difrent style.

  • @IvanMyRooM I agree. DT are good, but they're just the most popular progressive band, that doesn't mean everything has to be compared to them. Progressive music has been around since the 60s, so I'm sorry, but people need to stop claiming DT invented it. Hell, to prove my point, listen to the fantastic prog (arguably metal) song from 1974, Journey from Mariabronn by Kansas. Dream Theater basically borrowed the solo section for their instrumental style!

  • @21tdarby Take Toto or Rush for example. People don't even know they are prog. But still, one day they gonna learn. Till then :P

  • @IvanMyRooM CM is badass. Just sayin'.

  • You DT fans need to get over yourselves. There's so much more music out there...... just enjoy the music instead of putting DT and yourself on a pedestal, hahaha.

  • To all the narrow minded DUMB FUCKS who are spouting nonsense about Circus Maximus. Your beloved Dream Theater sound like a slurry of other Progressive bands before them, haha. I'm a hardcore DT fan, but I know they've spawned from somewhere. The same with Circus Maximus. One of my favorite bands. They put out Prog Metal music while DT is on Break so I don't have to wait, hahahahaha.... awwwww I fuckin' love it!

  • Circus Maximus was a Dream theater cover band. People received them so well they started to make their own material. It's called inspiration, not copying.

  • the 4 faggots pressing the dislike button are only trolling

  • @canitasteyou321 youre the faggot trolling

  • @jeanismohamed

so defending a good song is trolling? what a dumbass faggot

  • @canitasteyou321 a good song doesnt need defending you fanboy faggot

  • @jeanismohamed

fanboy? metal is only a small portion of what i listen to. maybe you should reconsider your insecurities about your sexuality.

  • @canitasteyou321 that doesnt change a single thing of what I said in my comment, retard. should I copy paste it and reoly to you again?

  • @canitasteyou321 lol im going to start using that

  • 1:45 it's the best song part.

  • First time hearing these guys they are fucking awesome!

  • This guy's voice is so damn melodic and delicious!

  • I love DT and my friend said "have you heard of a band called Circus Maximus" and i was like no.....damn. i've been missing out on some great music

  • CM was originally a DT cover band! maybe thats why people so closely relate their sound to DT HMM just a though

  • I found my favorite Norvegian band...amazing singer, talented band and enjoyable music

  • Wow! Good songs from Circus Maximus! Very similar to Dream Theater. Any metal fan will like this, Highly Recommended!!!

  • The singing in this song is reminiscent of Geoff Tate.

  • The whole DT argument should be a compliment to anyone who loves listening to this type of music since DT was first to be heard playing Prog Metal. After DT this genre really blew up all over europe, and this song would fit nicely during the "Awake & ACOS" period of DT's career along with Abyss & Arrival of Love

  • i listened to a song by circus maximus a while ago but i didnt really like them at that time but you know ive got to say they have really grown on me

  • System of a Down is Real

  • Sorry for continuing the CM/DT discussion here, but to me, with CM you basically get all the good stuff from DTs best and most melodic days, coupled with a singer who is actually a very good singer. I love a lot of the stuff DT has done, but the way I see it, their singer just don't make it into the top 100 metal singer list, if I were to make one. Michael of CM, on the other hand, does!

  • @andykrikkit - Have you heard him trying to cover Iron Maiden in the original key the song was written in? Sounded awful.

  • @andykrikkit Labrie is an awesome singer... He's in the wrong genre though. The entirety of Dream Theater is in the wrong genre;. They need to be power metal... that is it...

  • @UrizenNihilation dude shut the hell up. Labrie could never ever ever ever ever sing power metal stuff. His voice is just not good for that genre. i mean think about what you said, then go watch the DT cover of Master of Puppets. dude sounds like he was like suckin a dick the night before they performed it. Labrie just needs to stick with what he does best, which is what he does right now.

  • @OsamaNibLaden When was Master of Puppets considered power metal, do you have any idea how retarded you sound? Labrie could have been an awesome power metal singer but he has ruptured vocal chords and can no longer sing like he did in Images and Words<-- A rock album that sounds power metallish. Now, I understand that you are musically ignorant and know a fair bit about dick sucking but how bout you think about what you said and go fuck yourself.

  • @andykrikkit To further bolster my statement... Images and Words is DT's best album... If they stayed making stuff like that there would be a lot more happy people.

  • @UrizenNihilation I love Images and words too. Labrie apparently has had some problems with his voice after that album at some point, so I might have been too hard on him. :-)

  • I see these guys as much more prog version of Kamelot.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, great band. I've been playing Drums for 30 years this drummer is excellent, as is the entire band. I'm heading to itunes right now to buy this album.

  • @NPYYZ

You should listen to Seventh Wonder ;D

  • dream theater

  • True Volta! Its funny how ppl always compare and are not able to produce a clever comment

  • lol, DT original? have a listen to fates warning.

  • Strange how these guys are inspired by such as bands as Pink Floyd, the Dregs, and of course Led Zepplin. They make far better music both in complexity and structure, while being melodic.

I love how bands like these have high pitch or high toned singers. With only Symphony X having a heavier sounding vocalist.

Im not comparing the 2, just pointing that have the best singers suited for their music.

  • we should talk about CM not DT.

  • @Volta4401 Tip top idea ol chap. =]

  • @Volta4401 There would be no Circus maximus if there where no DT.. people you have to know where your roots come from.. There would be no DT if not for RUSH and YES and PINK FLOYD

  • @bitteredgeband We understand that CM were influenced by DT, and DT by Rush/Yes/Pink. That's where music comes from. Everything is inspired and influenced by something that came before. That being said, is it really so hard for people to judge a band on their own merit, without constantly comparing them to their precursors?

  • @Volta4401 both bands are good in their music, which is amazing

    both are great musicians

  • well.. they'Re good.. but not my style..

  • adoro esa canción.

  • This is sound of Circus Maximus!

  • Why is there always a ''DREAM THEATER'' comment on every single video of every single song of progressive metal ?

  • Wish I knew, man. I don't care for Dream Theater much anyways.

  • because people will always compare to old stuff, pretty much why there is always a comment of metallica, or another random "old school" band, that shit is sad -___-

  • @korruption yeahDT is my favorite band, but i agree, we are here to listen to CM

  • True but still

  • lol, no they arent

  • Probably because a lot of people have heard of them. A few years ago whenever I told people I was into "heavy metal" they always replied "What? Like System of a Down?"

  • Yeah I guess I would rather hear about Dream Theater than Sissies of a down. Damn, that's sad.

  • @korruption dude it´s also because it´s the most known prog metal band out there... it´s like when you say to people "metal" they used to think "metallica, ozzy", etc. like it was said about SOAD. Nonetheless, once you get your ears used to prog, you notice that the song are different and every band has a different sound. Props to CM!

  • @Biogenesi5 hahahaha!!!

  • @Biogenesi5 Circus Maximus is not heavy metal bro.

  • Shows you how people generalize music anymore, instead of just listening to let the music take you wherever it will.

I only compare bands as hearing influences, and you can hear some in Circus Maximus, but what you hear overall is a unique sound that only Maximus can deliver

  • uh because ~THEY~ rule- maybe????

all others are just 80'z posers- like these frozen Europe wanna bees.. PLEASE

  • because if there hadn't been any Dream Theater you could bet your ass that bands like Circus Maximus wouldn't have existed

  • its not a reason to mention them everywhere and compare them with everyone.

  • Not really. Dream Theater's signature sounds came from their influences, such as Kansas, Rush, and Yes. Proof is Dance of Eternity which is nearly 50% Kansas and 50% Rush.

Granted they put their own spin on it, and these kinds of bands often appreciate DT, but the progressive genre as it is was around before Dream Theater.

And please don't think I'm bashing DT, they're great musicians, but they don't have a patent so to speak on this genre.

  • No matter how much YOU(!) think the dance of eternity is 50/50 Kansas and Rush, doesn't change the fact that Circus Maximus is too heavily inspired by DREAM THEATER (not kansas, rush, yes or whatever...) and if DREAM THEATER hadn't existed neither would Circus Maximus have....(You try to come up with biosfear without being heavily inspired by the dance o eternity!

  • Circus Maximus is influenced by DT, I wasn't saying that they weren't. DT has been extremely influential in the genre, I'm just pointing out that they didn't invent it, no matter how much people try to say they did. DT borrows HEAVILY from the progressive bands from the 70s(not steals, borrows, just like CM does from DT!) If you don't hear it then I look up some of the more obscure Kansas songs, such as 'The Spider', which does several things later taken by DT. The influence is unmistakable.

  • well, everyone is a little influenced by DT at these days:)

  • True!

  • True, but Dream Theater was influence by many other bands too. The argument is pointless because it means great bands competing? Why? As long as the music works for you, that's all that matters.

  • @MaxPayne72

Yes, but I mean Circus Maximus is inspired by Dream Theater in a much more obious way, while Dream Theater is inspired by many different bands of all genres wich they blend to their own, Circus Maximus kinda uses the prog metal music as we know it from Dream theater

  • See my favourite Dream Theater album was "Images & Words". If a band can pick up where that left off, all the power to them. I would have loved to be in a band where we picked up where Genesis left off (Phil Collins "Abacab" era).

  • I feel this takes of after the When Day & Dream Unite & Awake combined albums, with the songs like Abyss & Arrival of Love.

I wish another band comes out with something that is like a sequel to Images & Words.

  • @Louisbass0017 Simply put, the Progressive Metal style started with Queenrÿche, Fates Warning and Dream Theater in the 80s. DT's popularity skyrocketed and basically allowed the genre to survive the 90s "Industry" which was all about rap, grunge, nu-metal, dance, pop and techno and awards... They are one of the most important pioneers of Prog Metal, hence all the comments on every videos. :)

  • @Zoury I am aware of that. It doesnt mean that we always have to compare everyone to DT :)

  • @Louisbass0017 yeah.. true

  • @Louisbass0017 lol because DT set the bar for progressive bands. THATS WHY!

and dream theater is musically AMAZING every one of them

  • @Louisbass0017 And actually beside them being a TOTALLY arranged-to-sell-band, they ruined the progressive metal scene!!! That Labrie goes to sleep everynight with a broom up his ass!!!

  • @OmegaDarkful While I admit that the last few Dream Theater albums are half comprised of tracks not worth listening to, I still think every album has at least 3 great songs. While I don't know if Dream Theater is at all your cup of tea, I would suggest giving a listen to DT's album Metropolis part 2 Scenes from a Memory (and if you do indeed listen to this album, please listen to it all the way through with an open mind; it greatly enhances the musical experience).

  • @Louisbass0017 maybe because they set the bar. But it should stop, i agree

  • @Louisbass0017 Um maybe because they where breaking new ground and creating a sound that no one else had before "DT" just like "RUSH". so many people judge DT based on Vocals and i'm sorry labrie but thats just not what DTs about its about everyone in the band not just one person..

  • @Louisbass0017 There are TONS of other good Prog Metal bands. THIS is one.

  • @Louisbass0017 plus its funny, cause it seems that Dream Theater was influenced by CM for their black clouds and silver linings album. listen to a ngihtmare to remember, the storm intro sounds just like the intro for silence from angels above. plus there was a huge style change for that album. so its interesting that such a HUGE band was influenced by these guys. very impressive if you ask me. LONG LIVE CM AND DT.

  • @moterhead7 interesting comment!!!

  • wow, this is amazing. Very much up to par with DT's sound, which in my opinion is a good thing; Props to Norway(and then band)! :D

  • They're better because CM has a great singer!!!

  • It Rocks, melodic, power, good influences, power vocals, nice guitars and solos... Just waiting for a new album guys !!!

  • Norway makes some kick ass music.

  • oh yhea ps im from norway :P

  • CM is totally original, and awesome.

  • "his" ?

    Lawl..

  • In a few years, when Circus Maximus is known for his work no one will compare them with DT

  • Er dette et norskt band? Har ikke hørt om dem... De var gode!

  • trur det :p

  • Jepp! Typisk norsk å være god! ;-)

  • Kommer som en selvfølge det! ;-P

  • Could you stop discuss about who made what and whats the most important!? just enjoy the music.

  • Actually the most important album when it comes to Prog Metal is Operation Mindcrime. Without that album prog metal would not be what it is today.

  • Although I find that cd amazing, i disagree that it is why we have Prog Metal today. Dream Theater was around well before that CD ever came out. There have been many prog metal bands around before Mindcrime.

I may agree to the fact that it was one of the first Prog metal concept albums that was done masterfully.

  • watch mr.crowley caratinga

  • for good pro listen to andomeda and dalis dilemma

  • How about that third Fates Warning album Awaken The Guardian. DT have admitted that FW invented prog metal. And you have not heard great vocals until you've listened to John Arch on tracks Guardian and The Sorceress. There's a reason they call Arch the best ever bar none.

  • Great Tech-Metal Prog Band!!

You gotta thank Dream Theater for this band. CM is a total DT rip-off, but I love it!!

  • True to some extent. Have you heard Thought Chamber? They're a little more musicaly adventurous and really know how to bring the tempo down. Something most of these heave prog bands struggle with. The guitarist is a fusion god with an often jazzy style.

  • Yes,and Malmsteen is total Bethowen,Paganini or Motzart rip-of:)))))))))))))))

Circus Maximus is maybe reminds of Kamelot,Seventh Wonder or DT....But the SONGS are not rip-off.You shud chek out live performance from prog power fest, here on youtube. They are compareless.

  • >CM is a total DT rip-off

There are some minor similarities, but they really are very, very different bands, with very different sound, composition styles, etc. The melodies and overall sound and style are more like earlier Scandinavian bands like Europe, Madison, Nation, etc., than Dream Theater.

  • They are not a rip off, but sometimes they just literally rip off a part of a DT song straight up. Maybe they do that as little tributes to DT, I think is counter productive to them.

  • To be fair Cm albums have been far better than the last few DT albums.

  • Thank you! I thought i was the only one.. If not Systematic Chaos.. Black Clouds and SIlver Linings was a giant dissapointment, though. I think it is quite extraordinary that CM made 1st Chapter as their DEBUT ALBUM! Looking foreward to what they can come up with the next decade. Cheers

  • mat's guitar tone makes this sound awesome...

  • Adam Lambert rules!

  • Delightfully melodic...

  • I got into Circus Maximus a while ago, and I must say that I love Michael Eriksen's voice. He sounds like a cross between Roy Khan and Geoff Tate, not a bad comparison at all. The rest of the band is awesome too.

  • If I was in a prog metal band and I heard this, I'd probably get seriously depressed and just quit because even though it's not a competition, nothing could ever beat this.

  • Its Michael Eriksen but I agree he sound here like Khan :) Great music

  • No, its not the Kamelot guy.

  • it sounds like roy khan though!!!

even in their website they mention that many people confuse michael eriksen with him!!

  • hmmm. they sound kind of alike but i can def can tell a diff. michalel can hit higher pitches, he sounds more like geoff tate to me but now days they are both compared to geoff nowdays. They are both extremely good singers so its all good.

  • Hail Norwegian music! :D

  • Awesome!!!!!!

  • yeah, it sound like labrie in nightwish or rhapsody of fire... but it's still great!

  • Labrie wishes he had the clarity and control of Mike Erickson! Labrie is always a gamble live. If you get him on a good night, he can basically stay on key and hit most of the high notes, but if you get him on other nights, oh my, the tragedy...

  • Ericksen. I accidentally gave him the Swedish spelling.

  • you kinda did it again, it's Eriksen

  • Dang it! So much for all my fancy book lernin'! I can't even spell the guy's name right!

  • Comment removed

  • ftw! ftw! ftw! ftw!

  • damn i want some curry right now... o yea awesome song

  • Listen to the song why am i here. Bitchen tune.

ps. Which cd is better this one or the 1st chapter?? share your opinions...

  • this one is better i think!!!

  • OMG!!!!i can´t even say a word..

  • evergrey in search of truth= real cool album

  • <3 love it ;D

  • i love them <3

  • ausome bitches!!!!

  • norwegian music at its best! ;P

  • I LOVE this song. No matter how many times I listen to it, it is still good. There is so much depth to their music!

  • wow kansas who gave you authority to speak of one others emotions, u r but a dog

  • Best BAND !!!!!

  • I can't seem to find an intro to any of their songs that I don't like,

    awesome band

  • the riff at 3:00 blows my brains out, amazing

check andromeda's "extension of the wish" if you like this band, theyre also a great band from sweden

  • Before you guys go bashing DT in here, remember they laid some groundwork for alot of progressive influence today. Along Rush and Tool and whoever else, DT may not be entirely progressive metal 100% of the time, but maybe if CM hits it really big someday, they won't always stick to their progressive roots. Bands explore beyond progressive into other genres, much like DT did in early 2000.

CM fucking rocks though, and so does this track.

  • ive read a article review of this album, and decided now to check it out. Im utterly pleased! ill run and buy this album as soon I got the time! Great!

  • zero is a song from CM that has SO FREAKING MUCH FEELING so there`s no disscuss that both bands rocks and can`t be compared

  • No. Sorry. All of the band's emotion left when Kevin quit.

Well. At least 90% of it. Goodnight Kiss and other various tracks have some good stuff in them.

Circus Maximus puts feeling into EVERYTHING though. That's why they're so good.

Both bands are solid in their own regards though. Isolate and Images and Words are both top albums for me, so I can't complain.

Might I say that Extension of the Wish as pointed out by someone else is indeed a beast album as well?

  • indeed. make sure to purchase the extension of the wish with their newer singer not the session one. andromeda's new album is disapointing though. Seventh Wonder is another band that a fan of prog should check. They are damn good. Pain of Salvation's Remedy Lane and Perfect Element in my opinion are the best prog albums to date.

  • are you referring to the edition of EotW with the singer who sang in the chimera album? yeah i prefer that than the original EotW version. i am also disappointed with the new album. exactly same thing with seventh wonder. the 1st album was nothing short of epic and is very original. the second one though, mercy falls, was a very lame scenes from a memory concept album imitation. disappointing indeed especially if you have high expectations on a band that previously released a sure prog classic.

  • Meh different. Circus Maximus/Dream Theater's singer sounds a lot like Dream Theater/ Circus Maximus's singer.

"/"'s are because... I can barely tell the difference. Any recommendation of songs I should listen to by these guys? I'm a new fan. :D

  • You really think they sound the same? Interesting. Never heard that comparison before except among people who say "they both sound like girls," which I highly disagree with. lol

  • Quite. listen to a song from Images and Words, and compare it to Whatever this singer is.

Any songs to listen by these guys other than Darkened mind and Abyss? Too lazy to searchbar...

  • Michael Erickson (CM) has a much more powerful lower range than James LaBrie (DT) does. James is more intimate in his lower range. For contrast, listen to Zero by CM and then something like Wait for Sleep or The Answer Lies Within from DT. They couldn't be more different. Also, I feel that Michael has much better pronunciation in the higher ranges. James however can sing higher from what I've heard of Michael. If you want a good CM song, listen to From Childhood's Hour.

  • K. Thanks man.

I do love both singers, and I have to say..

James' singing in Learning to live is Amazing. He almost always nails that F# in concerts. It's too bad that he ruptured his vocal chords though. Methinks he could have been much more loved if that hadn't happened. Instead though, They make fun of his mistakes instead of when he wins because the general public doesn't know about that.

  • Biosphere, Why Am I Here, Glory of the Empire, Haunted Dreams, The Prophecy and First Chapter are my favorites. Check them out.

  • I'm down with the clown too. Believe it or not. =]

  • INSANNEE CLOOWWNNN POSSEE!!... oh sorry caught up in the moment GO CIRCUS MAXIMUS :O
