  • Art byvince

they just don't make them like they used to

  • I clicked dislike by accident. Dislike?? Harrdlyyy! Loooove this!

  • Damian, I agree that Trevor played a big role in the production of Lexicon, but in my humble opinion Anne Dudley is the real hero who really deserves kudos here and probably never got the recognition she deserved for it. Her keyboards and orchestration gave the album a level excellence that for me has been hard to find in any other album since. The album itself is like a movie.

  • @artbyvince thats also true... Im actually trying to hunt down brad lang for professional reasons but im having no luck.

  • I've never personally seen a release of this in any format but I wouldn't doubt that there could be something out there, specially in Europe. I really believe Mark White was the driving force behind ABC because he would compose a lot of their stuff if not all. After he left, to me it just wasn't ABC anymore even though Fry still has the voice.

  • @artbyvince lexicon sounded how it did mainly because of trevor horn...Horn gave that polished sound..brad lang played fretless bass and standard as well...but you are right. when how to be a zillionare came out in 85 my thoughts were that it was a bit of a comical cartoonish farce they tried to get it back together 2 years later with (WHEN SMOKEY SINGS) which sounded more polished but by then the heyday i think was over lexicon is one of the 10 top albums of my life.

    Kind reguards

    Damian

  • Isn't there (at least) a VHS release for this?

  • "That's the ticket"

  • I remember when they put this on MTV back then here in the states. The bass in this segment is awesome. What a terrific group. Wonder what happened to Mark White? I really miss ABC's music. This has to be one of my all time favorite albums. You don't have groups like this anymore. Thanks so much for posting.

  • @artbyvince Mark left the music business to become a Reiki practitioner.

  • tHE VERy best thANk FOR SHARE CHEErS FROM amsterdam

  • I think it's Brad Lang who played the bass on this track, not Mark.

  • I think I have this whole movie memorized. This is one of Julien Temple's better movies...except for the one (can't remember the name, even tho I have it) where Bowie is dancing on a giant type writer.

  • it's called "the absolute beginners" like Bowie's song^^

  • Yeah, I realized that after I posted the comment. Memory lapse.

  • There's a bootlegger in Toronto who has this.

Its great, I had it back in the days of Beta VCR's.

  • Anyone here see Love Conquers All? I have it posted so check it out if you want. I heard there was a video for "Say It" too? Anyone have that to post on YouTube? Would like to see that too!

  • This is Great...never seen this before! Thanks for the post!

  • Where the heck did you get this?

  • This is probably one of Julien Temple's better films. Not just saying that because I'm biased either. I originally got the DVD from a friend in the U.K. and then converted it to Region 1.

  • Guys, I have just ordered the vhs to convert to divx to watch etc. if anyone has any ideas or polite suggestions post here. Cheers

Ps this is not anything monetary just like to share:0)

  • Ah yes, I've been trying to find this video for a while. Glad to see that this is up on Youtube. ABC were without a doubt one of my favorite bands of the 80's.

  • re release mantrap the movie ....please

  • Not seen that for years my friend had the vhs of the whole movie - I doubt it will ever see an official release though.

  • see you british people have it so good..

i grew up in america loving people like sade and abc even duran duran...listen to this bass player in this clip..when i heard poison arrow it changed my life because i knew this whole guitar leading stuff is BS you CAN be a bass player and be out front and good..that is what i learned..so thanks to people like john taylor and martin fry because im a bass player of 23 years now, im 35 in may, abc fans write me!

    D

  • ABC were just the best POP Band in the 80's period and glad that they inspired you to be a bass player

  • what is the name of the beat of the song in the background????

  • show me

  • Never able to get hold of a copy of this at the time of release, don't suppose anyone has a DVD Rip of the full feature? PLEASE ???

  • I know Mark White personally - I'll see if he has a copy - he should do!!

  • thanks wow I completely forgot this flic... the best of 80's romantic rock

  • I Mean......Huge.

  • I still love this movie! Still got the old videotape, kept it in its case for ages to protect it! The acting was well a bit overdone in some scenes, but the mood and locales, and the music! Fantastic!

Great version of "Poison Arrow" plays over the end credits, a slowed down accoustic version with Martin adlibbing a verse in the bridge, you can find that version on CDs nowadays, used to be on the "Poison Arrow" 12" single.

  • That's it! You've got it! That's the ticket! Now I know where Jon Lovitz got that line from. LOL

  • alex i agree need more.... saw the movie bout 20 yrs ago and was a fan of abc but cant find it anywhere since...lexicon ---classic .... need the movie mantrap pleeeze

  • Whoever uploaded this video, PLEASE post more!!! For years I've heard about this movie, and it's impossible to find. I'm a big ABC fan (thanks to a good friend) and have been dying to see this film. Whoever has this on tape, I'll buy a copy!

  • I actually had a copy of this on Beta video and I have since sold it on eBay cause I don't have anything to play it on anymore. It was good but it was also very confusing. I wish I could find it now though.

  • this is a true performance

  • I personally have always thought Martin and Mark to be the two smoothest guys to ever come out of the '80s.

  • To me Martin Fry is an icon and like many of you I havn't seen this in years and thouroughly enjoyed it even though to say the acting was wooden would be an insult to trees.

  • I have a pristine copy on VHS ordered from a store dealing with rare movies. I love it. Martin Fry is incredibly debonair. Love him.

    Sigh.

  • Made in 1983 as part of 'the Lexicon of Love' world tour promo. Fan club members were used for the audience at the 'live show' part of the film. I know these things. My friends were there x x x

  • I have this videotape somewhere but I've no idea where! I love it.

  • awesome !! I haven't seen this since my tape busted ...do more!
