This guy helped found the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. It's been cited by Hatina, among others. He also admitted to providing them with money. They are a terrorist organization with supremacist views that has killed untold numbers in cold blood. Mr. Arian has intelligence, but uses it in an extremist and misguided way.

After Sami Al-Arian pled guilty to the count of "conspiracy to provide services to Palestinian Islamic Jihad," an organization that is found on the State Department's list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs), the judge in the case, U.S. District Court Judge James S. Moody, Jr., handed Al-Arian the maximum sentence of five years. When doing so, Judge Moody described Al-Arian as a "master manipulator."

Al-Arian was found not guilty and acquitted of all charges by a federal jury. The only reason he did a plea bargain was that the government refused to release him and he was totally bankrupt of funds. The government essentially keeps retrying you until you break down. The same procedure was used in most of the so called terror cases.

His treatment in prison merits a suit against the justice department. Although not convicted of a violent crime, he had been held in solitary for 3 years.

During the mid-eighties to mid-nineties, Al-Arian had succeeded in building an entire infrastructure for PIJ within Southwest Florida. As well, he had been involved in the 1981 founding of the future propaganda wing of Hamas, the Islamic Association for Palestine, and the 2000 establishment of a Tampa subsidiary to Al-Qaeda financier, the Al-Baraka Group.
