well, you're right and wrong...they dont do it on their own because they need a driver to accelerate, but the manufacture of the car also makes them light and by the aerodynamics, air pressure gets under the car making them able to fly for a pair of seconds...I think the car was too light, and the driver was pressing the gas too much when coming up, so too much air pressure went under the car lifting it :)

actually the car is the Mercedes CLK-GTR and due to a design error the car is prone to lift off the ground under certain circumstances. It wasn't the only such incident with the car and thus it was withdrawn from racing for a while..

actualy lemme correct myself.. this is a Porsche 911 GT1 on the Road Atlanta circuit in 1998. Same class if car and very similar accidents to the CLK-GTR though... It seems that the class in itself has trouble maintaining front downforce... look up clk-gtr flips though if you are more interested in this stuff..
