I have both Xbox and ps3. I like trophies more because they give gold, silver and bronze depending on trophy difficulty. Xbox achievements suck because they are way out of prospective. On xbox complete king kong last level which anyone can do blind folded you get 200 or 300 points. Gears of war seriously achievement which takes a year is only 50 points

Achievements and Trophies are the same thing. Just about 3 months ago I started getting trophies and they are really fun to collect. I'm right now a level 7. On Xbox i have 50,000G and personally they feel like the same thing. I can't prefer one over the other because they are the same thing. It's not like comparing mustard and ketchup. It's like comparing Hunt's Ketchup or some other ketchup brand, it's all about personal taste. Oh and getting high with Gamerscore is more noticible than lvls.
I have an xbox and i have like 16900 or 17000 gamerscore but im switching to ps3 and also i like the trophy idea it just seems like its more of an accomplishment to get a gold or platinum trophy than a regular achievement.
I love the way when i get an achivment on my xbox i can look at what it is straight away but when i get a trophy on my ps3 i have to go on to a menu and look for it
Keep in mind Sony copied the idea of trophies/achievements from Microsoft since Microsoft RUSHED the 360. If they had just been patient, I bet every fanboy here, the majority would be Xbox 360>PS3. I think its also weak that you can't delete achievements you don't want.
Lets say you buy the Simpsons game and you unlock the achievement just for pressing start. You then find out you don't like the game, but because you can't remove that game from your list, it will forever stain your gamer profile.
Trophies and achievements are a great idea. But both were rushed and not thought out properly.
Both show a percentage of the achievements you have unlocked and both show locked achievements.
Instead I think it should only show achievements/trophy's that the gamer unlocks. So don't show a percentage incase the gamer only likes to unlock 1 player only achievements.
I like trophies better because idk it seems more compelling than just having numbers. Plus the platinum trophy adds more anticipation into getting trophies.

Trophies are way better. There's more variety and is more exciting to get. Achievements are basically NUMBERS thats it - 50G, 5G, 10G etc... Both consoles are great though.

Haha I just visited VGchartz.vom and the ps3 is only like 4 million sales behind the Xbox 360 which came out like a year before? My best friend and I predicted the PS3 would start to outsell the 360 by the end of 2009 and we were right. The PS3 outsold the wii and 360 like 5 or 6 months last year. O man, after God of War 3 and Heavy rain no one will hear about the fail box. Man trophies are much more sophisticated and organized just like the PS3's dashboard. fuck you fail box.

Halo and Gears are harder to play than CoD, because it's sooo easy to die and get kills in CoD. Every gun has the potential to kill anyone within 2 - 3 shots, whereas in Halo and Gears you have to work for your kills. I'm agreeing with you btw, I just felt the need to elaborate upon your point.

Well it's really simple your Gamer score is your score as a gamer so a continuous number is way more practical than how many gold or silver trophies you have. I can't see how anyone would prefer Trophies over the original Achievements.

Probably a stupid question haha,but, what is the equivalent of a Platinum Trophy? I understand gamer points are like trophies bronze silver and golds, but what is X-Box's Platinum? When you get all Trophies for a game (PS3) is says 100% and gives you platinum. So you get all the Trophies plus a platinum at the end. What does X-Box get at the end of unlocking all the achievements in one game? Do the gamer score just add up to 1000? or does x-box get an extra 1000g after unlocking all other achiev
you get nothing special from getting all of the acheivements in an 360 game, this is why Trophies are superior to Achievements, The Plats just make it so much better

@ZnamyaRevolutsii yes there is a difference, I got a 150g achievement for beating ME2 and(plus a 75g for having everyone survive and 50g for importing ME1 character), that is like a GOLD trophy and 2 silvers on the PS3, the plat is for getting ALL trophies, all that I get for 1000/1000 is the game listed in my achievement section as a 1000/1000...
Tbh they are both just a marketing tactic. i mean yeah it can be cool sometimes to have hard proof that you actually beat something on a really difficult setting or did something amazing online but guess what. These trophies or achievements ppl go nuts collecting wont even carry over to the next gen. all your trophies / achievements save into your hardrive and none of it is account linked which means all your hard work is only as good as how many gigs you have left on your ps3 or 360.
I take it you don't actually own a current generation console right? Both achievements and trophies have nothing to do with your hard drive. They are linked to the account. You are either incredibly stupid or just talking out of your ass. Personally I prefer achievements simply because trophies don't offer enough variation with rewards. For example in Bioshock beating the game on hard mode is worth the same as simply snapping one picture.

Well i am a 360 fan, but that is not why i think achievements are better. PS3 CopiedPS3 only has it for multi platform games (Xbox has it for all games) PS3 only has for types of trophy ratings, gold, silver, bronze, plat. (Xbox has got numbers, the higher the number, the harder the achievement. You can check your total score of achievement (Adds up score from ALL games)You can compare achievement with other Xbox users (Im sure you can do that on PS3 but still.)And yea, Thats my thoughts anyway.
Um, no? PS3 exclusive games DO have trophies. The trophy system was introduced about a year and a half ago, so any PS3 exclusive game (or any PS3 game for that matter) that came out before that did NOT have trophies.

Noob, achievements usually dont go higher than 100 G, and if it is anywhere near that number, it isusually something like completeing the game on hardest.
and yes 20,000 is high, if you had xbox you would understand, i have the same feelings for you PS3, you would just have like 50 gold trophies and people would be like wow you probably got easy ones or something.
no achievements for 360 go over 100 usually. altogether every game totals 1000 G, and has around 49 achievements, the harder ones being worth more. and as the release dlc for the game, they release new achievements, totaling 1250 G in total, with around 4 - 6 new achievements.
I belive only 4 types of achievement ratings is not enough (bronze, silver, gold, platinum . Gamerpoints are better because you KNOW how hard its gonna be by the amounts of points.

Achievements and Trophies are the same thing. Just about 3 months ago I started getting trophies and they are really fun to collect. I'm right now a level 7. On Xbox i have 50,000G and personally they feel like the same thing. I can't prefer one over the other because they are the same thing. It's not like comparing mustard and ketchup. It's like comparing Hunt's Ketchup or some other ketchup brand, it's all about personal taste. Oh and getting high with Gamerscore is more noticible than lvls.

I think its also weak that you can't delete achievements you don't want.
Lets say you buy the Simpsons game and you unlock the achievement just for pressing start. You then find out you don't like the game, but because you can't remove that game from your list, it will forever stain your gamer profile.
Trophies and achievements are a great idea. But both were rushed and not thought out properly.

Personally I think both systems are flawed.
Both show a percentage of the achievements you have unlocked and both show locked achievements.
Instead I think it should only show achievements/trophy's that the gamer unlocks. So don't show a percentage incase the gamer only likes to unlock 1 player only achievements.

Haha I just visited VGchartz.vom and the ps3 is only like 4 million sales behind the Xbox 360 which came out like a year before? My best friend and I predicted the PS3 would start to outsell the 360 by the end of 2009 and we were right. The PS3 outsold the wii and 360 like 5 or 6 months last year. When you get all Trophies for a game (PS3) is says 100% and gives you platinum. So you get all the Trophies plus a platinum at the end. Tbh they are both just a marketing tactic. i mean yeah it can be cool sometimes to have hard proof that you actually beat something on a really difficult setting or did something amazing online but guess what. These trophies or achievements ppl go nuts collecting wont even carry over to the next gen. all your trophies / achievements save into your hardrive and none of it is account linked which means all your hard work is only as good as how many gigs you have left on your ps3 or 360.

I take it you don't actually own a current generation console right? Both achievements and trophies have nothing to do with your hard drive. They are linked to the account. You are either incredibly stupid or just talking out of your ass. Personally I prefer achievements simply because trophies don't offer enough variation with rewards. For example in Bioshock beating the game on hard mode is worth the same as simply snapping one picture.

I am a die hard Ps3 fan but I even accept Trophy system is stolen BUT
I think its better. Its like a DLC and a retail game. Depends which you prefer. Trophies are solid, you can know what your friend got and what you have. But gamerscore is just... I mean, there are lots of ways to get 100 Points, but there is only one way to get a platinum. And you just can compare gamerscore, not the games they got that points.

Once again, someone talking out of their ass. You can most certainly compare individual games. If you couldn't achievements would be pointless. If you've never even seen an achievement list you're in no place to rip on it.

1. it came out later becuz xbox had a whole shit load of overheating probs so ps3 wanted 2 fix that on theirs too and
2. just cuz they have trophies doesnt make it a steal they wanted gamers 2 have fun getting trophies are fun cuz its a challenge wouldnt it be boring playing Cod5 zombies without unlocking something its like... o well i made it 2 round 30 without buying a perk... that should be like a record but with ps3 its a trophy a sort of record

can someone explain to me how trophies work? is each one worth a value (bronze, silver, etc...), and then you get a "gamerscore? can you compare them with friends easily?

Well i am a 360 fan, but that is not why i think achievements are better. PS3 CopiedPS3 only has it for multi platform games (Xbox has it for all games) PS3 only has for types of trophy ratings, gold, silver, bronze, plat. (Xbox has got numbers, the higher the number, the harder the achievement. You can check your total score of achievement (Adds up score from ALL games)You can compare achievement with other Xbox users (Im sure you can do that on PS3 but still.)And yea, Thats my thoughts anyway.

Um, no? PS3 exclusive games DO have trophies. The trophy system was introduced about a year and a half ago, so any PS3 exclusive game (or any PS3 game for that matter) that came out before that did NOT have trophies.
Same thing with trophy difficulty. The harder the challenge, the better trophy you get. And yes you can compare trophies with friends.

Yes i know you can compare them, i just prefer achiivements more because you can compare total gamerscore, and there isnt really a limitto how hard the can make an achievement because there is more than 4 ratings.

Take a look at the "Scene It" controller (Buzz Rip-off) take a look at "Lips" (Sinstar rip-off), take a look at the new 360 dashboard (XMB rip-off, cross navigation), take a look at the 360 Controller (Dreamcast controller rip-off...) etc... please dont talk about Rip-offs, Microsoft is the master of rip-off. im throphy level 6 with 28%(that means my status into level 7 when i reach 100% i got to rank 7) and i have 238 throphy's my online psn is Slipknot_owns
what im trying to say is that throphies are cool they are practically part of ur gamerstatus and on xbox those points are wurth nothing cuz well ur like i got 20000 points is that high or not?? cuz u might have gotten 1mil achievements wurth 0,05 points(if that could exist which it doesent, this is just an example) or 2 achievements wurth

Noob, achievements usually dont go higher than 100 G, and if it is anywhere near that number, it isusually something like completeing the game on hardest.
and yes 20,000 is high, if you had xbox you would understand, i have the same feelings for you PS3, you would just have like 50 gold trophies and people would be like wow you probably got easy ones or something.

well 0-40 g is like worth bronze trophy.
45-80 is worth silver trophy
85-130 is worth gold trophy.
and the last 1000 g is worth platinum trophy.

no achievements for 360 go over 100 usually. altogether every game totals 1000 G, and has around 49 achievements, the harder ones being worth more. and as the release dlc for the game, they release new achievements, totaling 1250 G in total, with around 4 - 6 new achievements.
I belive only 4 types of achievement ratings is not enough (bronze, silver, gold, platinum . Gamerpoints are better because you KNOW how hard its gonna be by the amounts of points.

this is true, still only equaling 1000, also this game is popular for one reason, gamerscore, but no one cares about total GS, only noobs.
