The crew of U-1277 disembarked from the scuttled boat in rubber dinghies at the beach of "Angeiras" some kilometres north of the city of Oporto on 3 June, 1945. They were interned by Portuguese authorities in the "Castelo de Sao Jose da Foz" (Oporto). A few days later they were handed over to a British warship in Lisbon and put in a POW camp for 3 years, before they could return to Germany.
