  • Hi Mark, this video really helped me to hit more draws, but I have another issue that is leaving me short on distance. I am releasing the club to soon by breaking my wrist before I make connection with the ball. Do you have a fix for this issue? Thanks ahead of time for any help you can give. Cjohn913 - Kansas

  • Thanks for the great video Mark! Just went out and hit 40 clean straight shots at the range this morning! Now if I can just get that slight draw...

  • Always great videos!!! Love this one especially, I play off 8 but still suffer from losing my drives when i get quick. I have put this into practice at the range and love the results, firing the ball from a square club face....can't wait for the season to start. Thanks again.....also bought the Titleist AP2 and RBZ from your reviews after hitting them against the Mizuno. Keep up the good work and if i am ever down there i may well pop in for a lesson!!!!!!

  • Great video mark! I noticed I tend to slice more as I move from my short irons to longer irons. what is the correlation for this?

  • hi mark , could you do a video on hooking with the driver ?, driver is my best club in the bag but i can go through phases of duck hooks , cheers

  • most people slice because of an out to in swing.Clubface angle is not nearly as significant.

Cure the out to in,cure the slice.imo.

  • @rw5791 Mark said in the video, control your clubface and it will directly fix the out/in swing. No point pumping up a tire if you still have a hole in it.

  • @adamutuber in/out*

  • @adamutuber controlling the clubface is another way of saying ..."keep the clubface square": Yes you do that by a flat wrist ,although don't say that to dustin johnson, but u also have to swing on plane. The video makes no mention of the plane and how can u talk about a square clubface without mention of the plane. The two are inseparable.

  • @rw5791 Controlling the club face is just that. Being conscious of where the club face is at impact and knowing what controls it. Depending on the shot you may want it open a little, closed a little or square.

  • @mauiflutes you're right.90% of golfers can't keep from slicing the ball to save their lives.Unless,of course.their faced with a 75 degree dogleg right shot and then they'll hook the ball.

  • Hey Mark, recently I've been having some problems with the driver. My irons are consistently a nice draw or straight at the target line. With my driver, every shot is a slice or fade. I can feel myself forcing the club through impact and I don't think my hands/wrists are finishing through in time. It's like my hands are stuck at impact. Any tips on how to fix this problem?

  • That base of the palm trick was exactly what I was looking for thank you very much

  • @4golfonline No this didn't but what did was swinging along a lower swing plane. Especially with the driver because you have to hit the ball on the up-swing. Although it also works with my irons and my overall distance has improved to 220m average drives. But thanks anyway cause this really got me thinking about my swing.

  • Comment removed

  • do a review on the RBZ Taylormade driver.

  • thanks for another great lesson Mark, everything you say is so right! thanks again.

  • As soon as u said it's weak when u have the club in the center of your left hand I was immediately listening. Because even if I can manage 2 hit my driver straight I will only drive it 150 Metres. But 95% of my drives slice 2 the days anyway. I really hope this works and if it does ill tell everyone!

  • Amazing zid m

  • The comment about the driver needing to be in the base of your hand is genius. Its quite cold where I am at so I cant test it out until next spring but just hold my clubs feels better than before. Should I approach each shot the same way, even when using irons?

  • With my Taylormade Burner Superfast rescue wood 17d, i still cannot hit i correctly have you got any ideas?

  • I have been looking for good info on golf. We are so lucky your here! Thank you so much for your efforts to help golfers as well as correct info for all

  • Mark I have the app & am following u on Facebook. I love watching your videos, got alot out of this video. I was slicing it horrifically recently so after studying this video I went up the range & closed the club face slightly as u said & 'touch wood' the slice has gone. Keep up the good work :)

  • Hi Mark, I bought a couple of Drivers, hoping to cure the slice.

Reg (49gm TQ 5.0) Burner HT 460 straight with little fade, dist 240 yds

    Stiff (60gm TQ 3) R9 460, slice, dist 290 yds

Stiff (52 gm TQ 4.5) Maruman Shuttle HT straight but no carry, dist 200 yds

1 Stiff Shaft (60 gm TQ 3.1) Titleist D2 mostly slice dist 200 yds

Is it because of the stiffer shaft or low TQ ~ 3 or the wt of shaft, that I am unable to control the driver face do you suggest to use higer TQ shaft around 4 in D2?

  • i either slice the ball or i hook it into the grond only some days i can hit it good

  • how can i get a sweet job like yours because i love golf and that would be awesome to work at a driving range.

  • top man mark i watch everything you do .reviews tips the lot.great stuff. helps us guys a lot.many thanks.

  • I just got a new TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 TP and with it an incredible towering slice. Applying what you said about grip and club face control straightened it right out. Thanks for another great video lesson, Mark!

  • @td1138 no problem thanks for the comments

  • @td1138 thanks for watching

  • Ever since I got back from holiday the old slice has kicked in, i've always hit fades naturally and I'm used to the left to right movement but it's killing my game. My woods and irons are fine but the Drivers a Nightmare. Recently I've only been hitting 1/5 Drives solid.

Now I'm in the process of curing it by ball back in stance etc. But I feel SO closed. I end up just pulling it left and low :(

    Goods tips though.

You can check out my swing on my channel guys, help would be appreciated.

  • this sounds good. I have dropped from a 20 to 14 in past 6 months but have stalled. No doubt due to my out to in slice and missing a lot of fairways, especially if it is windy. I will give these tips a go and let you know

  • @SnowShadow007 let me know how you get on

  • I tried this, it felt extremely wierd, however, worked an absolute treat! Thanks dude!

  • U make it so simple

  • when I hit my irons,3wood,5wood i take proper grip like u say, I hit straight shot or draw, and notice that my wrist get into proper position without be even thinking about it. then my problem with the drivre is i have a good grip and when I take it to the hip its in the same postiion as u said but when ii get it to the top it cups causing the toe to be down and have an open face at impact, when a make my flat wrist at the top i hit my drives straight , just want to know why its happening

  • Hello Mark!

    Love your videos :)

A question: how tight is your grip is it loose or are you holding it tight??

    Best of regards// Dennis

  • I have a slice but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong whether it's me swinging from out wards to inwards creating side spin or me having an open club face but good video btw

  • Loutennant99. Great advice again

  • I have just started back playing golf after being away for over 10 years. Slicing / pushing the ball straight out is something I have unfortuantely been very good at since I returned (especially with the driver). I have already made changes to my swing plane after watching your previous excellent videos. I will have a go at this tonight as well.

This is the only channel I look at, brilliant and if I was nearer to you I would be booking a lesson or two for sure :)

  • Great video Mark! Really got me thinking about my clubface! First time mentioned in any videos I've seen on Slicing.. :-) Thanks a lot!

  • useful tips mate! Thanks.

  • i will try these next time im on the course thanks Mark!

  • Recently I haven't been hitting the driver so well I'm finding it so hard to get through the ball if you know what I mean. My practise swings before the shots feel great but I just don't do the same swing. I'm thinking that I'm bending the knees to much and this gets me stuck on the downswing and end up slowing the swing down a ton. Basically I do not feel that I'm attacking it with any great conviction unlike my practise swings. what are your thoughts on this?

  • Awesome!!!! My favorite youtube channel!!! Very basic and easy to follow instructions, I'm a 10 handicap and this year it's time for single digits!!

  • Gr8 advice Mark once again. Still hate the fact that your camera doesn't cover the ball and the clubhead. I strugle with a out to in swingplane and have noticed that closing the face almost makes the slice worst. I usually hit a push slice, isn't that a sign of wrong swingplane?

  • cheers for the vid, sound advice. do the same rules apply for irons? i've got flat irons (can't remmeber if they're 1 or 2 degrees flat) and i'm making a really nice connection with the ball but the ball always gets pushed out to the right. The reason i think it's the ly angle is because my wedges that aren't flatdo the opposite and go slightly left. Hope you can make a reply,

  • nice pants

  • i thought it was if u hit a slice it was your swing plane, and if the ball went straight right it was your club face not square??????????? is this right r wrong?????????/

  • @kyle9256 thanks for your comment, swing plane does cause a slice. The point I am making is that your swing plane is heavily controlled by your club face. If your club face is open when it attacks the golf ball it will encourage a out to in swing path. But you are right that is is a combination of swing plane and clubface. Fix the club face, control the club face and you will be able to control your swing plane. Let me know if this makes sence and thanks for watching and joining the convo.

  • Please do a video on how to stop hooking also, which seems more difficult to solve.

  • Mark, enjoyed this video, should we also strive for that flat left wrist position with both hybrids and irons.

  • Mark, how do you get a more consistent golf shot? whether its with drills or anything else

  • Great video Mark,im really suffering with a driver slice,im going to take these tips to the range and hope i can sort the big stick out,its really letting my scores down...

  • mark thank you very much... i hoped thatt you do that :)

  • Great advice, Mark. I have problems gripping the left hand the same way you instruct. It's something I need to work on.

Mark - would you mind taking a look at this grip video and commenting back whether or not you agree with it's teachings or not? /watch?v=oYYYfFDTZrk

That video offers some slightly different left hand advice than you do.

  • Great videos. These have helped me greatly since coming back to golf after 7 years away. I'm hitting the ball better & straighter than ever and I know what Im doing wrong when I hit a bad shot. Thanks!

  • brilliant video with excellent summary of essential tips that have really helped my driving!!

  • @jamiemck great let me knwo how you get on.
