this is somewhat interesting and well done and edited, however in the end you and i both know that oakville is not nearly as hard as you are attempting to depict it.that graham drug dealer guy was an idiot and a clown,im surprised he doesnt get robbed everyday. the other beef i have with this is the fact that you interviewed kids who say they smoke pot and drink on weekends while you show the video from requiem of heroin use.they didnt say they did hard drugs.i drink a lot too and i dont either.
the point of this film was really more for people who live within the community itself, to realize that there IS a lot more going on here than any of them would like to believe. oakville has its ups and downs but the downs are never reported, and the only way they become known is through word of mouth. i dare anyone to go through any of oakville's newspapers and try to find one trace of any actual news.
Oakville has, as you described, an unusually high income per capita. It has a paper that chooses to focus on positive community based stories. Other than that it's a suburban city like any other. Theft, murder, bored drug-using teens, every suburban city has these. What are you trying to prove?
I guess the video was for high school. It's well presented, but you prove nothing! I'd be very curious to see if you'd still think lowly of Oakville if you lived alone in many other cities around Ontario
We did not say we think lowly of Oakville. I feel as though you misinterpreted the video. Many people in Oakville believe it to be MUCH better then the rest of the world. We were simply saying that Oakville is not on a pedestal and is in fact the same as most other suburban towns.
This video is interesting but you used the "requiem" drug effect too many times(the effect that they use in requiem of a dream when they take drugs. cool in the movie, over done in this), and as for what Oakville kids do, well I'd say about 80% of the kinds in my graduating class were druggies.
Oakville, i notice the selective editing as to they still dont have strip clubs,
And if you use lists of crimes and use your high powered perspective as to Crime, you will see that most crimes commited in Oakville the criminals are from other citys, So i loved the vid, but get a grip or better yet live in Dayton Ohio For 5 years.
I've lived in Oakville for 5 1/2 years. It's up and down. People have WAY too much money here and because of it, 90% of Oakvillians are bratty, ignorant, naive and gluttonous. Alot of the kids at my school are posers that have way too much money and act mean to look cool. On the up, it's clean, nice and the nice people give alot of their money to charity's and fundraisers.
nice try to put a bad spin on oakville . why arnt you happy to live here, instead go around trashing it because of maybe 10 bad things that have happend in the past 10 years
I live in oakville...i'm not rich at all..rofl i work for my money my parents dont give me shit, this video is made by a bunch of rich kids, give the camera to a broke ass mother fucker like me and i'll show you oakville
This video was ridiculous. It chose to center in solely on drug and alcohol abuse, not giving any proof whatsoever. The opinion of a small group of loser kids isn't exactly substantial. I know a LOT of kids from that age group (through friends and family) and they all have pretty bright minds. It doesn't matter what city you grow up in, there's never anything to do for 14-18 year olds. You can choose your own path, whether or not that includes pot, smoking, or booze.
Oh, yea, Oakville is one of the safest places to raise a family. It's just that parents tend to get out of hand in Oakville and let their kids run loose like it's nothing.
This movie is more naive than the naivety it is trying to combat.
I am too tired and can't form a cohesive argument right now, so the following is what I have to say:
For a grade 11 media project this was put together pretty well. But seeing as how this is on YouTube, it's a piece of trash. The argument is formed terribly. All you do is focus on drugs and show how youth ARE stereotypes. Create a better argument next time. Thanks for coming out.
I liked you honest clear view of how you can see this futilistic attempt to bring down Oakville by this little mall muffin,
There will always be collectives of stoners who lack talent or ambition in general, Oakville has had its dirty past, and when going From A Biker Town, to one of the Richest communitys on earth took alot of hard work.
most of you people are ignorant ... that video had good parts but why do u show the softest and pussies drug dealers and pot smokers in canada u should have showed h.t more or s.t.a where kids actually are into that shit... where people arent as rich as what u show like appleby... which like 50% of the kids arent from oakville they jus rich u ignorant fucks
this video captures the real side of oakville. we (for the most part) may be rich, but we still realize we live the good life... most of us cant wait to get the fuck out!!
Wow that video was lame. There's 150,000 people OBVIOUSLY there are people drinking alcohol and smoking pot, go ask people in Toronto and see what they say...
its oakville lol good video but seriously the youth will become scetchbaggs or scholars it all depends how u raised yor kids....and how much money u give them
yeah, we didnt want to get in to why the kids do drugs so much because it was for a school project (yeah grade 11 media) and we didnt think we could do it so well in only 10 minuts. Also a lot of people in toronto seemed to think that oakville was stricktly a nice place to rais a family and traveling outside of oakville i have had people shocked that i have done drugs (and got expelled from a school for it) because they assumed that that stuff didnt happen in oakville. and thanks:)
i never personally use my youtube account ..ever, but i just thought that this was worth commenting on. whoever made it must be a complete GENIUS. oh wait, that was us.
Oakville may have an under lying drug problem with the high school kids and 5 adults but there is no city that doesn't. You also have picked out probaly the only 2 sketchy stores in Oakville to base your video on. As for the crime, Oakville does not try to hide it. If they did then it would not be published in the news paper. Oakville is by far the best town around Toronto to grow up and live in and there is no denying that. Just my 2 cents.
We reolize that there is no city that doesnt have a drug problem of some kind, and thank you because that is exactly what we were trying to prove. Not even the great Oakville is drug free even though most people try to act like it is. The crime really isnt published in the oakville beaver we had to surch sources like the toronto star and others to get any sort of crime related stories about Oakville.
