what do you mean with poorly optimized? i optimized as hard i could... but in a super big outside terrain in cs:s zombie escape with 50 players its hard to keep the fps up. :P
There is much more optimizing, than just adding some hint brushes, area portals and fade distance to props.
The optimizing starts with the map layout, even before you start building the actual map in hammer. You should check some valve and fpsbanana source engine optimization tuts if you want to build better maps =)
