I just lost my female Sun Conure back in October 2010. :o( This reminds me of her. She didn't do the flip like you Sun does. She did a spin, hanging with her beak from the top bar, with her hanging up and down, she'd spin in a complete circle. My Green Cheeck, flipped like your Sun. I lost him the same day. I had her for 9 years and the GCC 7 years.
@daberdo57 I'm so sorry to hear. Loosing both on the same day, wow. . .
I've had Bo for 16, and I know he's pushing 20 from one side or the other. They can grow on you, as you and I both know. Bo's in great shape, and I hope that continues. Good thing he has health care through his employer.
@chuwi24 You need basic training. The trick was taught by holding him on my finger, bending the finger and turning him upside down. It only took 15 minutes until he figured it out..
Everyone likes to hold him and make him go around their finger. He'll do it far anyone.
@LatitudeDigital I have 5 parakeets a nanday conure and a cockatiel and another one coming on tuesday. our parakeets are handtamed. hey, did u know that parrots are actually the parakeets? "parakeets" are actually budgerigars
Parakeets are far smarter than they are given credit. I held him on my finger, bent my finger then turned him upside down then right side up. 15 minutes iof that and he had the idea.
People love to hold him on their hand because he will do this for anyone.
So chickens are not nice, huh? :) I had a friend who had a chicken as a pet. Turned out to be very smart one.He taught him tricks too, but then it was taken away from him and killed, because some people thought eating chicken was ok..Go figure. To me eating any animal is not normal, but it's my opinion.
wow... i didn mean to start a vegetarian to carnivore war here...lol no i dont really want to eat him i have a yellow nape amazon and hes still walking upside down in his cage without even one missing leg... so shut the fuck up :D..everyone
And Vidguy, thankyou so much for rescuing this little bird! If only more people would look at rescue sanctuaries!Second hand birds need loving homes too!
I agree with you about their natural sounds. So many people say to me when I mention that I have parrots, "Oh can they talk!?" --It's the only thing that gives the birds value to many people! Whether they do or not, they're gorgeous, wonderful animals!
yeah I like the natural bird talking better too! Why would I try to teach it english? it's not a human :) I understand you completely.
the real challenge is developing a language between you two where you can communicate. my bird and I were able to actually talk to each other, and we developped telepathy as well. The bird taught me that. This is no joke, birds have that sixth sense thing and you can tap into it. They sense intention and direction.
It took about 15 minutes. I held him on my finger, bent the finger then rotated my arm so he was upside down, then back again. They are eager to please, once they understand what you want. The key is to build trust first, then train.
I saw it on a video on Animal Planet. I'll bet it's on youtube somewhere.
Try looking for "clicker training" Bending my finger it the trigger for the trick.
I had a conure. Not sure what kind but he learned that. My moms African Grey can do that but we ahve to hold his back. We also have a parakeet, canary, and a cockatoo. The conure died so I'm going to get a new one this summer:]
my sun conure talk, well not exactly, He laughs and makes a kissing noise for me. But whats more important is the love these little birds can have for their owners, making them my favorite breed of small parrot
Yes - sun conures can learn to talk. They aren't particularly good talkers and they aren't as clear as something like an African Grey, but they can certainly learn to say some things.
That is an easy trick to teach. All you do is hold the bird on your finger, then slightly bend your finger then rotate your hand to turn him upside down. Once the bird sees that bending your finger means to go around he will do it. let me know how you do.
my cockatiel does it its easy for them! she was only 8 months old, she learned it at like 6 months!! if your cockatiel is a girl, thats what they do to protect their nests in the wild, so itll come naturally =D
They aren't good talkers like an Amazon, but they can be taught. Bo says "Hi,' he learned it because I always say it to him. I like the bird sounds better.
It took about 15 minutes. I held him on my finger, bent the finger then rotated my arm so he was upside down, then back again. They are eager to please, once they understand what you want. The key is to build trust first, then train.
This is so cute! I like how excited he is about going somewhere. Bo does his trick very well. The only "trick" my green cheeked conure knows is to go poopie on command.
Aww, cute trick! I can tell that he really likes you. My Caique gets excited the same way when he thinks we're going out. He loves meeting new people.
Aww what a cutie. But I didnt like how he was fluttering the wings, like as though he was nervous or those clipped wings were annoying him causing him to not concentrate

Parakeets is a term for a wide variety of broad-tailed parrots.
EA1088 1 year ago
@EA1088 I believe the definition of parrot has to do with the feet, with the two sets of opposing toes.
You are correct, a parakeet IS a type of parrot. They are very intelligent and can be taught to do a lot of things.
They haven't evolved to the point where they discover they can use their hands yet. Look out when they figure that out. lol

@iluvabiline I believe you mean parakeets are parrots. Have you seen Bo's channel? More videos there.

@iluvabiline I think it's fairer to say that parakeets are parrots. Budgies are commonly called parakeets in the US, I have no idea why.
Parakeets are a species of parrot.
