3:30 fuck i always wondered this myself----no goddamn rhyme or reason for them to be all up in the background like that unless they just want to be on T.V..
This scene illustrates why I love detective fiction as a genre. You can actually tell stories ABOUT something, not just a "literary" author wanking his own ego.
This monologue is so crucial to his decision at the end of the film. He is from the streets, he takes pride in that, he looks for the good in these people. You get many good families in these awful places... but not enough.
He, naively, believed that Helene would change, maybe as he had done as a youngster. But she wouldn't, she couldn't, she didn't.
I love the quote when he says, "When I was young, I asked my priest 'how you can get to heaven and still protect yourself from all the evil in the world'. He said what god said to his children, 'You're a sheep among wolves, be wise as serpents, yet innocent as doves. '
showed this movie to my friends yesterday and they loved it..and its my favorite..seen it 17 times now...its an amazing movie and has a true meaning..i love the beggining and end..if you havent seent his movie..watch it..its amazing...like too good to be true...
"I always believed it was the things you don't choose that make you who you are. Your city, your neighborhood, your family. People here take pride in these things, like it was something they had accomplished. The bodies around their souls, the cities wrapped around those. I lived on this block my whole life, most of these people have."
Man, I love that quote. No matter where you're from you know what he's talking about and can relate to it. One of my favorite movies ever.
I love my town. WHen i was reading the first book, A Drink Before The War, i was really amazed by how i was able recognize all the parts of town mentioned, like the BVoston Comman, South Station, I-93 south and the Barnes & Nobles on Washington St. It's closed now, but there is a Border's next to the CVS i work at.
this is one of the greatest monologues in movie history. hands down. even though im not from south boston, this still reminds me of pittsburgh, where im from. its too powerful. and its a great movie too
I grew up In Everett. The scene where the drug dealer had taken him and they found that little boy I used to hang out at the park behind the house. I miss it. Zhood, you and I both know that street life is a life of it's own, it doesn't matter which city or state. I know you know this because of your comment. The monolugue is 100% dead on. I live in south central Pa. and I want the city life back. This country living isn't for me!
I'm from Massachusetts and this movie, as well as Good Will Hunting are perfect! The cinematography makes me feel like I'm in Boston, and the actors portray their characters to a T.
i loved it cause i was in it!! boston is my home city!! they filmed right on the corner of my street. the house that the little girl was taken from was my girls house!! all in all though i thought it was a great movie, loved it a lot!!!
Makes sense to find a video for the extended intro for a movie you don't even like. But with a name like peteyornpimp I should probably set all of my expectations for you pretty low.
wtf?! they wouldn't let him keep her. you almost feel bad though and in a way want him to because he can provide better for her, but bottom line is the law is the law.
This opening scene is excellent, but the movie was mediocre...more like an extended Law and Order episode than a movie...and the ending made no sense. Social services would have let the cop keep the girl until the Mom had a steady job.
Uh yeah right.Social Services is usually so on top off things that they don't fail thousands of children over and over,so yeah right they would let the kidnapper keep the child or maybe they would have let Corwin become her foster father.
the cop kidnapped the child. that was an offense already. and the child was not being physically abused so there were no grounds for her to be seperated from her mother. this is a very good movie. its great like mystic river, but its damn good. i cant believe you find this average. its a ver good movie.
Ben Affleck great Director!!!
