You know it's kinda funny after these many years this show can still put a smile on peoples faces and add a little light to their Day! I miss the original Muppets :D My mom didn't call me Missy Muppet for the last 32 years for nothing :P
Both the Muppets and John Cleese were such a big part of my childhood. I love them so much and get nostalgic just surfing youtube for vids of them. I found a good stash of John Cleese at the snapsnap channel.
But getting naked, cross dressing, crawl around in mud and garbage, walking really silly, cakes in the head, and just all around being really silly is okay. I love people with self ironi. and all comedians should have.
I'm always amazed at how the Muppet Show got great talented celebrities to work with them. and work wonderfully. Cleese with the Muppets is one example.
1 was all of 11 years old and I remember how much I adored this show. where the hell did the time go. I'm 44 years old now. It was all in front of me then. Now, its mostly behind me...
I remember coming home after working all day with my dad at the store, and watching this show. I didn't grow up with him, I started getting to know him when I was 18. We did a lot of bonding then.
One day the dog, Barney, nearly blind, fell a great height and mortally injured himself. And we were both there to see it happen. That is the singular time that I saw my dad cry, driving to the vets to dispose of the body.
that night, we came home and watched this episode of the muppets.
I remember as a kid noticing how there were an awful lot of British guests on the muppet show and I didn't know why. I only found out later that despite the fact that Jim Hensen and his performers were American, they actually did all the filming in a London studio. Hensen couldn't get enough support from U.S. backers for a risky idea like a puppet show for adults. But ITC went for it. And that's how it became a joint UK/US show released in both countries at the same time.
The one great thing I love about the Muppet Show is that you were not conisdered a celebrity until you had a guest spot on the show. I still maintain this believe and therefore, no celebritys exist past 1981, the year the show was taken off the air
A True Classic. "Kermit, this is Not Funny"....."Oh We hope this is funny!" LOL
I heard that John actually joined the writers to write this sketch. Then he help a person named Chris L. I believe get a job as a Muppet Show writer afterwords.
John Cleese also contributed to the writing of this episode. :) Joining him are Sweetums, Boppity (the Blue Frackle), The Luncheon Counter Monster, a trio of whatnot pigs and some chickens. :) His strangling of Kermit almost matches that of Carol Burnett's. lol
