  • This was not on my friends boxset - so glad I just wandered on to it. Genuinely in tears by the end.

This clip is too hilarious to be legal! XD

  • I loved the reference to Monty Python's Life of Brian:

"We will stop this at once!"

    ("Yes, we're all individuals!")

  • @TrenchcoatWallflower I'm not. :-P

  • Too bad the clip cuts off John's sudden change of heart. This is comedy gold, though.

  • R.I.P

  • I miss this type of comedy. Why isn't anyone smart enough to write this kind of silliness.

  • @evilmurderproduction Because silly takes more smarts than we give it credit for.

  • What is this muppets name

  • @mrallen816 SWEETUMS

  • @mrallen816 the big one is called "sweetums"

  • I love Cleese in "A Fish Called Wanda" !! And i love Wagner's Niebelungenlied

I do wish Cleese had been a bit more polite, but maybe that's his public image.

  • Hahahaha John Cleese is awesome!

  • John Cleese and the Muppets together---it just doesn't get any better, folks!

  • haha, no show tunes for mr Cleese.

But getting naked, cross dressing, crawl around in mud and garbage, walking really silly, cakes in the head, and just all around being really silly is okay. I love people with self ironi. and all comedians should have.

  • He's the voice of my GPS!

  • I'm always amazed at how the Muppet Show got great talented celebrities to work with them. and work wonderfully. Cleese with the Muppets is one example.

  • The Muppets and Monty Python! This is great!

  • John Cleese, I think I love you!

  • Oh man I love him with the Basil Fawlty mustache...

  • this entire episode was great. Muppet Show still Rocks!

  • Muppets and John Cleese, how could you not love that :)

  • @dgeleyn Indeed it must be a perfect world

  • "Where's the frog?! Where's the frog!?"

  • 1 was all of 11 years old and I remember how much I adored this show. where the hell did the time go. I'm 44 years old now. It was all in front of me then. Now, its mostly behind me...

  • @richardthewriter It's like you read my mind, richardthewriter...

  • I remember coming home after working all day with my dad at the store, and watching this show. I didn't grow up with him, I started getting to know him when I was 18. We did a lot of bonding then.

One day the dog, Barney, nearly blind, fell a great height and mortally injured himself. And we were both there to see it happen. That is the singular time that I saw my dad cry, driving to the vets to dispose of the body.

that night, we came home and watched this episode of the muppets.

  • If you got the other members of python then the show would "always look on bright side of life" :)

  • They already did that at Graham Chapman's funeral.

  • This is priceless. Love it.

  • The moment the curtain came down 3 monsters grabbed me and stuffed me into this! hahahaha :P

  • Poor John Cleese!!!

  • I remember as a kid noticing how there were an awful lot of British guests on the muppet show and I didn't know why. I only found out later that despite the fact that Jim Hensen and his performers were American, they actually did all the filming in a London studio. Hensen couldn't get enough support from U.S. backers for a risky idea like a puppet show for adults. But ITC went for it. And that's how it became a joint UK/US show released in both countries at the same time.

  • I saw this when I was younger

I forgot how funny this was

  • I've never seen anyone choke kermit before!!

  • You ever watched the entire episode? If you didn't, just let me tell you that John Cleese wasn't too keen on coming here ... :)

  • John Cleese & the muppets are the greatest.

  • Wasn't having a good day. Then I watched this clip and couldn't stop laughing for 5 minutes.

  • 2:13 This sounds and looks silly. LOL 2:35

  • He tries to kill Kermit at the end.....

  • @Sokra01 SPOILERS :P

  • The build up was so slow, I didn'T expect to laugh so loud. lmao

  • 'He came to our life but now he is leaving' OMG! It's so funny...

  • lol there's 2 videos in one

  • luved wen the muppets sung to him

  • LMAO! Sweetums opera scene's the best part. i would have loved his cadenza. LOL love it XD

  • there's one thing that allways gets me about John's acting

    when he's barking at someone

he does it with his famous accent and with politeness

  • The one great thing I love about the Muppet Show is that you were not conisdered a celebrity until you had a guest spot on the show. I still maintain this believe and therefore, no celebritys exist past 1981, the year the show was taken off the air

  • That was awesome!!!

  • I agree with Captain Bones and I give this 5* and another 5* and another 5* ..........and so on. Trudy Louisa

  • no the muppets are deff not funnier than cleese. he is the best

  • Hahahahahahahaha That´s so good and hillarious. Brilliant.

  • only on youtube can you find morons arguing about a Muppet video

  • XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • @ItsybitsyspiderMamma Or commenting on us other morons!

  • @ItsybitsyspiderMamma shit, only on earth can you find stupidity on that level of epic ignorance.

  • kermit must be 4 feet tall

  • I was just thinking that.

  • A True Classic. "Kermit, this is Not Funny"....."Oh We hope this is funny!" LOL

I heard that John actually joined the writers to write this sketch. Then he help a person named Chris L. I believe get a job as a Muppet Show writer afterwords.

  • This is so funny. John Cleese is one of my favorite guest stars.

  • So true :)

    MamaLouisa

  • XOXO

  • I love John Cleese! I had never seen this but as soon as it started I was ROFL!!!

  • lol!

  • omg this is incredibly great!

  • I didn't get to do my cadenza...

    love sweetums!!!

  • What was that blue bat thing on John's right side?

  • Boppity, one of the monsters.

  • I hardly reconize John with a mustache

  • Haha, Sweetums, love 'em.

  • Im sure people look for any racist context in anything its ridiculous :S!

  • @Livinitupuk What?

  • @Livinitupuk it's racist?

  • @Zoras88 oh piss off will you ,idiots like you are the reason there are no decent shows etc anymore

  • @SuperPatrick777 wait, why are you getting mad at me?

i couldn't even find anything racist about it!

i didn't even KNOW about racism.

if there's anyone you should call an idiot, it's Livinitupuk. He's the one you should complain to.

  • @Zoras88 my appologies , if i could find livintupuk i certainly would .

  • There is no way I'll do a song!

THERE IS NO WAY HE'LL DO A SOOONG

Will you stop this at once?!

We will stop this at once.

That part always makes me laugh XD

  • @emanuelle17576 Yeah, me too! LOL

  • SWEETUMS!!!

  • Not mexican, that is all spanish... but as it is Kermit and Sir Cleese... i can let that pass :D

  • This is one of the funniest bits I've ever seen on the Muppet's Show

John Cleese's face is hilarious at the end xD

  • John Cleese also contributed to the writing of this episode. :) Joining him are Sweetums, Boppity (the Blue Frackle), The Luncheon Counter Monster, a trio of whatnot pigs and some chickens. :) His strangling of Kermit almost matches that of Carol Burnett's. lol

  • I laugh my head off when I see this.

  • Classic!

  • Holy shit, that monster singing Wagner at 1:00 made my day!

  • That's Sweetums! :)

  • John Cleese? Yep, he was a Monty Python member.

  • Yes - John Cleese is a British comedian, his claim to fame among other things is Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and "Q" in the most recent James Bond films (since the death of Desmond Llewelyn), so that includes I think at least one of the Pierce Brosnan Bond film and Casino Royale/Quantum of Solace with Daniel Craig.

  • ok

    right

  • Q (John Cleese) wasn't featured in either of the new Bond films with Daniel Craig. His last appearance was in Die Another Day. Casino and Quantum felt "naked" without Q and the banter between him and Bond.

  • Just for the record... Those are NOT mexican maracas!!! Hahahaha!!!

  • the muppet show completely knew the score

  • Brilliant!

  • It'll be a cold day in hell before this man sings an optimistic show tune that wasn't in Spamalot! LOL I love you so, John! I'd marry him too!

  • I didn't know who most of these people were at the time, but now I realize that there were some really talented poeple who guest starred on the muppet show. However, the funniest thing I ever saw was Gonzo blowing his teeth through the trumpet.

  • Haha, Viking Norway YAAAAYYY!!! XD

  • I think he's playing his Basil Fawlty personality in this.

  • john cleese as the staight man weird

  • John Cleese as Sigfried?! I would pay to hear that!

  • i luv dis lolololol

  • I love this guy lol he is the best if asked me to marry him I would in a sec even now he's great the best love ya John x

  • it's hillarious when he's with Snookums. They finally get him to sing.

  • Other the name Sweetums? That's what I heard in Muppet Vision 3D

  • "Snookums" ???? LOL. I think you mean "Sweetums".

  • Happy Birthday John Cleese :)

  • Aww poor John Cleese. He looks so grumpy.

That's his poker face for ya! He did a great job on this. Although I'm suprised at what they were able to do on that episode, hat with the different censorship laws and such. But it was so quirky and funny :3
