  • ...I liked St. Anger...

  • Lars my ol' buddy.. I looked up to you and admired you as an inspiration to drumming back in 88 when I first heard Metallica.. Now you are just a clueless dick who regressed rather than improved.. I miss Metallica..

  • rock and roll...........st anger xD

  • St. Anger is everything a good Metallica album should NOT be. I always thought it funny how Bob Rock produced this musical abortion when he's usually known for getting killer drum and guitar sounds, like on the band's black album.

  • I love lars drumming on st anger, so full of anger, so pissed.

  • Comment removed

  • Lars is the man!

  • Lars Ulrich is cool

  • St anger suks.

  • I have some St. Anger with remastered snare on my channel...

  • Aww Lars Is funny, why do people not like him? :L

  • The drums on St. Anger sounds like it was recorded with a fuckin' potato

  • Well Lars was honest lol. Metallica knows the album wasn't good it was just made so they could sort stuff out in the band.

  • @LordVerdo Well.... yeah, I kinda agree with you. Having watched the Some Kind of Monster documentary, it does seem the vastly undercooked St. Anger album was the result of Metallica sorting out the conflict between its members and their addictions rather than a full-fledged album in its own right. I did, however, find the album enjoyable because I knew where they were coming from and the frustration they were venting out with it. Death Magnetic was much better, but this is alright.

  • I hate it when Lars makes me like him. Which he just did, and it ain't the first time. Damn you, Lars!

    That was hilarious though!

  • I dont understand ppl. St. Anger is a good album in my view..I dont need solos in every fucking song, I dont need the usual snare drum sound, and so on. St. Anger is one of my favourite albums, and who doesn't like it, can fuck off and make better.

  • @TheMetalMarci Agreed! I like solos, but I'm more into grimier Metal! which Metallica achieved wonderfully on St. Anger with the dirty riffs and drums! Love the album!!

Also the title track is my fucking anthem!! haha

  • @Savagedaze Well said man :)

  • "The complete abortion that is St. Anger" And thank you Lars.

Didn't think Lars learned his lesson from St Anger if Lulu is anything to go by.

  • Uh, sorry what?

The snare in St. Anger is badly TUNED. You turn around those bolts, mess it up, and the snare will "ring" anytime you hit it, even with the snares on.

The funny thing is, the snare on St. Anger both had the snares on, AND was tuned to C just like the guitars ;)

    It actually sounds pretty awesome.

  • wow didnt know thats a snare

  • "Black Album - Fame and Fortune

St Anger - Loss of revenue, no albums sold, poor concert ticket sales"

  • thats the only thing i didnt like about the album lars seemed lazy. But the whole album reflected the stress of the moment kirk had to push double the effort just to make it work because James and Lars were a disaster BUT if you listen to the album against several other albums of the same year its still really good

  • @beastforum1 hmm no i can think of a lot albums back in 03 that were better than st. anger

  • @mentalfeed70 i didnt say there were none I should had said it was better then some Having said that though. It was also around the same time I became a Iced Earth fan and that my friend has never failed me

  • @beastforum1 No, it sucked. Metallica havent made a good album since Master of puppets

  • @TheJackdane Yes it sucked on a metallica level but compaired to alot of the mainstream BS at the time it wasnt bad

  • @TheJackdane Nothing truer has ever been spoken.

  • that made me laugh a lot

  • Then Lars, explain TOOL's extreme commercial success with the snare off.

  • st. asshole

  • The funny thing is, a properly tuned snare should still sound great with the snares disengaged, see Danny Carey.

  • @Thinchap Why are you talking about God? :P

  • @XavieRibeiro25 as in DC ?

  • @Thinchap Yes ;)

  • In Frantic and St. Anger the snare sound is great! But for the others songs I did suspected that he had disengage the snares. It's obviously the sound of a snare with disengaged snares.

  • hey look! its Lars Ulrich...

  • @mrduck120 yeah man, he's suuch an awesome guy

  • The snare sound....is Lars's way of trolling

  • "This is how you take a normal, good sounding snare drum.."

So he basically admits it sounds like shit? Lol.

I actually liked the snare on St. Anger, the rest of the drums too. Actually I think it was Lars's best work since Justice..

  • @roundhousekicker88

That's just an opinion, for some people that's a good album and for another people that is a shit. The style variation fucked it all.

  • @roundhousekicker88 Me too, I still don't entirely understand why everyone hated the drums.

  • @RyanTheEpic I think it was just because the album was so different than the others. St. Anger was so drastically different than Metallica's other albums, and everybody expected it to be at least in the same style in the others.

The only thing I didnt like about it was the guitar tunings. I'd love to learn a few songs from SA, but I really dont like tuning down to like freaking drop Z -__-

  • @RyanTheEpic no one hated the drums, one persion hated it,and the rest of the band waggon fuckers followed him.i'll take st anger over the black album anyday, that's the album all the pussys like and call it "real" metallica.

  • I watch this video about once a day it is funny to see him explain how to turn a snare into a tom

  • I like how Lars knows that not all Metallica fans like St. Anger. Personally, I like St. Anger. The "steel" drums weren't a problem for me at all. The problem, I think most Metallica fans have with St. Anger, is that they're expecting it to be another "Master of Puppets" or "Ride the Lightning." Instead, they should just go into it as a normal album because when they do, it rocks.

  • no one has said this but him saying that you disconnect the snares with his signature snare it should sound exactly the same

  • @SitotiKurton I don't care where you came from, or where you graduated from. The problem is that I can't understand what you are trying to say because of your lazy spelling. And I haven't said anything that would make me seem stupid. If you would have anything to support your initial comment you wouldn't give me excuses. Post And Justice... Metallica sucks, any metal fan knows that.

  • @SitotiKurton Well If I would understand what you are trying to write because you don't know how to spell kid. Metallica sucks after And Justice... and you know it, but since you are a fanboy you try really hard to defend Metallica, even though the average metaller knows they suck now.

  • bill bailey on the drums.

  • Lars: Well ummmmm.... uhhhh i heard a guy shitting in a large tin can, and uhhh i thought it would obviously be a great setting to set my snare to!'' LOL

  • @SitotiKurton You have got to be the biggest fanboy ever, and you have lost your musical credibility. And yes they did change their style, they aren't a metal band anymore. They are a fail. Metallica R.I.P. 1981-1988

  • @ralfisloved They WERE Metallica, now the metal is gone. Technically they're Rockallica.....

  • @Pwnzjoomom Well said.

  • @Pwnzjoomom Ummmm, did you hear Death Magnetic?

  • @DoubleO711 I stand corrected.....

  • @Pwnzjoomom Lol yeah, they really went back to their roots with that album.

  • St. is still one of my favorite albums... GIFD

  • When their own drummer admits the shitty sound...you know that album has to be shitty.... although I'll admit it had potential.

  • I say they remake the entire album minus that horrific drum sound and get Rob to re-do his own bass tracks, not ones by Bob Rock...maybe some better lyrics too...damn, when are they gonna work on a follow up to Death Magnetic?!

  • @atheg74 this whole time they have been, after death magnetic. duh!!

  • @awesomepossum2244 have been what now?

  • @atheg74 the new album

  • @awesomepossum2244 they're working on a new album? Sweet!

  • youtube -> yves paquet - st. anger

  • their first 4 albums were magical.

  • St. Anger isn't rock and roll, he said it himself. Thats why that whole album was complete shit

  • st. anger sucks

  • @TheZombini yeah i seen metallica in concert in 04 in buffalo and they played st.anger and the snare sounded like the actual snare so yeah it does sound better live

  • St anger really sucks and they know that...Lars:"...st. anger...no album sold..."....that sez all

  • The abortion that is st. anger haha perfect

  • Comment removed

  • St. Anger was a great album, just that load and reload were not so good, listen to a live St. Anger song and it will sound better than the album.

  • i am actually a big fan for the drum sound in st anger

  • @nitinlkoin1984 Me too, and i dont know why, because if we are perfectly honest, the snare sound IS shit, but it somehow fits the album, wich i also like...

  • st anger is quite good. in my opinion it is the best thing that came out after the release of and justice for all. i find it more enjoyable than black album

  • "...the complete abortion that is St. Anger." Yes, yes Lars finally we agree.

  • @raeplolz He never said that in the video...

  • 0:45, are you kidding me? No albums sold? That piece of shit went double platinum.

  • @SonicThunderBYG Maybe he means no albums enjoyed, or no albums survived :P

  • @JSKlunk No. I think his jaded sold-out ass means quite literally, "no albums sold".

  • So, what he's saying, is that he plays with snare off position. Not really anything special, I think this is the first time Lars was thinking someone else was retarded.

  • I love that sound.

  • St. Anger is not St. Anger without "that" snare sound.

I tried to play Frantic and St. Anger with my band mates but like 20 second after begin I was like damn man something is wrong with you snare.

However when we play tracks from Master, Kill, Ride and Justice, St Anger snare sounded like shit, Sad but true

  • Yeahhhh.... lost revenue my asshole lol. They made 43 million touring St. Anger in 2004, not to mention the album hit number 1 on the Billboard 200.

  • when we say that st anger sucks, were taliking by metallica standards but compared to modern shit, its fuckin incredible

  • Whats wrong with St. Anger? Its different, and I don't want the same shit over and over. St. Anger is still Metallica, Old and New. there is no difference.

You know what, If everyone wants old because it was better in THEIR opinion, why don't everyone throw Windows 7, Vista, XP, and Millenium out? let's go back to 98!

  • @LOLwafflesPRODUCTION Quit licking Metallica's ass and accept that St. Anger is fucking awful. Fanboy.

  • @Frostdaddy88 Quit crying about the "Old sound" and get over St Anger, asshole.

I happen to like the sound of it. I don't care much for Reload, though.

  • All that matters to lars and the guys now is sales.

  • I just loved the sound of snare drum on ST.Anger

  • He couldn't have said it any better. I'm a true fan but St. Anger was a self taught lesson to them of what not to do when making an album.

  • St. Anger was different, but equally as good in my opinion. It wasn't 'Metallica' material, but it was a good 'modern' album.

  • lol even they admit it sucks

  • Lame!!!

  • don't be so hard on yourself,Lars...the drums was not the only thing that sucked

  • Thats the way Lars Ulrich explains the sound, even he is rich and famous now, he can still laugh at his mistakes as a normal human being, that makes him a more valuable person

  • whos tht fucker to say "no revenue " to lars..... motherfucker.... dont he know he's talking to a living legend

  • Absolute ABORTION of St. Anger! lol

  • I wonder what st anger sounds like with snare on, but i knew it all that the snare had to be off for that album

  • @SitotiKurton i was talking about you and yes actually i am i also like alot of other bands... lol oh just so you know slipknot do have solos in their new album *cough* sulfur and psycosocial *cough*.... jim root knows no knowledge of theory and he is an amazing guitarist Question... are you a musician????

  • I didnt even know st anger was a metallica album... must suck ass

  • personally I think st.anger is one of the best Metallica albums

  • @denny5400 i love it, though the drumming does tend to get on my nerves a little bit after about 5 or 6 songs

  • Your a dick, sell some more paintings,

  • @SitotiKurton Metal=metal. Deal with it. You just called it NU 'metal'. Which has metal in the genre name alone. Besides, none of the bands the dude mentioned were NU metal.

  • @Direksone that term was created by the media, it is just as metal as grunge, might as well be called grungecore...

  • @gearsofhalo2 its metal.

  • @Direksone well yeah and The strokes are the saviours of rock and roll lol...

  • @gearsofhalo2 no idea who they are, neither do i care.

  • @Direksone what more evidence you need? Korn have said several times that they have never played Metal

  • @gearsofhalo2 And I mentioned KoRn where?

  • @Direksone you dont need to numetal=korn, basically

  • @gearsofhalo2 Eh what, and you just said they never played metal? Wha-eh..huh?

  • @Direksone i didnt, they said it themselves...

  • @gearsofhalo2 Now I'm confused:'(

  • we all know dave lombardo is sooooo much better

  • I don't know why, but I like st anger snare hahaha

  • Lars Rules:)Others dont apply!

  • I know...the drums sound like crap and on their newest album the drums are distorted all to hell...take the concert out of your ears boys

  • sucha pussy. i hate this little piece of shit hes so bad

  • inexcusable

  • Respect for being able to laugh at themselves for it though. If you fuck up, but find a way to make fun of yourself, you're good in my book

  • Comment removed

  • Ulrich Sucks ...!!!

  • Jesus fucking christ ulrich is the most unlikeable prick on the planet

  • Lmao this is ridiculous. "While we were laying down the album I was literally coupled to the drum kit with straits and my butlers were being unruly and refused to re-affix the snare lock on my snare drum. I was told that if I asked for recording to stop to fix my snare, I would be sued by the studio."

  • Anyone else bored by darcksocerermusic's comment?

  • Metallica is just NAME !!! fuck this crap

  • lars has nothing on drums...even james hates playing with him...he cant even do a standard kick snare beat

Nick barker, Gene Hoglan, Joey Jordison beat the crap outta him....its just sad that he doesnt need to do shit now....because he has a cash cow now

Even the old school thrashers...Charlie Benate, Igor cavalera, dave lombardo ripped him back then in the day and epecially today

  • @darksorcerermusic Today i would agree but not back whe lars was in his prime. St anger was pathetic for lars and the biggest problem with the CD. but all the Cd's upto and including tha black album were great. And Death Magnetic wasnt bad either

  • @darksorcerermusic i agree with some parts mate, and i overly agree with the Joey Jordison from SlipKnoT and Murderdolls part :D:D:D

  • Lars knew it sounded bad... Therefore it sounds bad... Happy..?

  • NAPSTER RULES!!!!!!!!!

  • @Slydotcom Well his contributions to that band have been massive though in terms of the writing and the business side. So I guess hes like a Nikki Sixx of metallica.

  • @Slydotcom Hopefully at the end of July this year in London. He sounds good on the records though.

  • He's an overrated drummer. Go type Frost drumming on YouTube and be blown away emo kids.

  • @TorgeistLLN I think this is probably the most stupidest comment I have ever seen on YouTube.

    1. Kids who listen to Metallica aren't emo. Emos would listen to like "The Promise Ring" or "Mineral".

    2. The only thing this "drummer" is good at is his speed. To me, it sounds like a retard banging on a drumset. Lars Ulrich at least has some feeling in his drumming.

    3. Thrash Metal and Death Metal. Different genre, different style of playing.

    4. Are you only here just to hate? Dumbass Troll.

  • @LotsOfMetalUpYouAss Lars has nothing on drums. So save that shit. Frost can play any style of metal. Go listen to the current Satyricon which is not death or black metal. 1349 aren't death metal you fuckhead. Good to know which are the emo bands since I know none because I don't listen to it. Nice try kiddy. Go back and worship a has been Metallica who haven't been good since 1988.

  • @TorgeistLLN Just because Metallica didnt stick with a certain style dosnt mean there nobodys and dosnt mean they suck, have some respect.

  • @TorgeistLLN What emo kid listensto Metallica?????

  • You can't explain the St.Anger drum sound. It's inexcusable.

  • @ruhonperkele

Why are people always complaining about the Snare ? For THIS album, the snare was perfect, he choosed a snare, which sounds good with the rest. I think st anger wasnt their best album, but it is a good album like all metallica albums. Sry all haters ;)

  • @ruhonperkele What? I loved the snare sound, that massive steely ringy monster, I remember listening to that album and I couldn't get that snare sound outta my head for like 2 months.

  • @thecravenator42069

Yeah but not everybody knows what that means because now everyone is a drummer.

  • like if he sounded kinda loopy o_0

  • IMO....

Metallica's first 4 are very good albums, that is the truth. And before you ask I listen to a shitload of thrash albums of very underground bands, many of which are impossible to get physical copies, and I still like MOP and RTL a lot. Those albums are not technical, never wanted to be, is just well written music

It's like saying Maiden's Powerslave sucks because of their later albums or because there are other less known good bands in the scene like Cloven Hoof or Satan....ridiculous

  • at least lars can joke about it!!!

  • please subtitules in spanish !!!

  • @thenicodrum *pone la bordonera * black album fama y fortuna( dinero )

*la saca* St anger, miseria, enojo, poca venta de albums( aunque creo q es mentira porque vendio bastante ), pocas entradas vendidas en los recitales.

  • I think hes an awsome drummer. So what if his beats are simple? Who gives a shit? Hes fucking fast!

  • what about tuning it to a shitty dissonant note?

  • What a fag

  • St anger is my fav metallica album love it and the snare

  • Metallica know St.Anger was shit, hence why they fired Bob Rock for Death Magnetic

  • @ekmad Plus Bob ran over Lars' foot.

  • @korruption "Would you put some fucking shoes on?!" "Don't tell me what to do!"

  • *snare on* Black album fame and fortune

*turns off snare* St. Anger, despair, misery, anger, no albums sold, poor concert ticket sales.

    lmfao!

  • @JeanLucLovesDrums st.anger is way more better than black album

  • @JeanLucLovesDrums St. Anger was to hardcore for dudes like you.

  • lars explains how to fuck a snare lol

  • he sounds like johnny knoxville

  • i love my douchecake

  • Who ever said Lars wasn't a creative drummer!?

  • Alright, just because I want to know if anyone actually LIKE Lars... God knows I fucking don't.

Thumbs up if you think he's a douchecake.

  • @thecravenator42069 You could probably say the same thing about Mustaine's vocal skills and his ego

  • Rock and Roll... St Anger lol!

  • I think a snare drum sounds fine disconnected whenever its dampened. A lot of bands actually "turn the snare off" when they record music. The problem with St. Anger was, the snare was too ringy and steel-sounding. If he had simply taped a paper towel to it (or bought a studio ring or some moongels) that problem wouldnt have occured and it would have had a nice crisp tone.

But don't bash Lars for being unique. He's got bawlz and talent.

  • lars is so stupid

  • @TheChrispablo

    ur mom is stupid.

  • @TheChrispablo Bet he has more talent and intelligence than you do kid. Keep hating, loser.

  • give lars a break he likes to try different things that sometimes dont work but oh well hes still got the balls to do it

  • seriously he just gets slammed for doing something different which sounds pretty cool but

nope its too different so it sucks

  • @thecravenator Very well put Sir.

  • @thecravenator42069 except that's not gonna make any sense to someone who doesn't know what a snare is.

  • I thought it was a piccolo. Hmph.

  • thats true

theres only too options: rock and roll - saint anger
