Some early slaves were brought from slave markets in jamaica. But No mass transport like in the slaves brought from Nicaragua or even Garifunas settlement. Jamaicans are actually one of the last groups to trickle in to Belize in the early 1900's looking for jobs in the nearby Banana fields. They mixed with a Creole population that was already there, That had an established culture since the 1700's
Do Your homework. Over 2000 slaves were brought to the bay settlement after the Evacuation of the Mosquito Coast in 1783 directly from Nicaragua. At that time the population of the bay settlement(Belize) was only a few hundred people. This is a Fact. This had a huge impact on the Creole culture of Belize. The Creole Population were actually absorbed into the people who were brought there from the evacuation. There was no mass exodus from jamaica to belize.
@creolebuay69 Im not saying that no slaves were brought from jamaica. Some were as well as bermuda and other parts of the caribbean. With That being said the Belize Population Of Creoles/Kriol In 1786 was only about 600. However as a result of terms in the Convention Of London over 2000 Settlers Mostly Slaves (About 1700) Came To Belize. The original Creole Population was absorbed into the new Creole/Kriol. The few slaves brought from markets in jamaica
@creolebuay69 are insignificant compared to this influx of Slaves brought from Nicaragua /Miskito Coast(Honduras) Like I said b4 more Jamaicans came later in the early 1900's like the many that went to Costa Rica(Limon), Panama etc but none were and only contributed to a Culture that was already there. Thats is why Belizean Creole is most closely related to creole in Nicaragua and not Jamaica. Exp. Notice How Belizeans pronounce H unlike Jamaicans.
@Bing527 I still dis-agree with u. But lets leave it as that. Belize has more Creoles than Nicaragua has. Read what I sent to u about the Belizean Crioles. The only thing I agree with u is that Nic. Creoles and Belizeans Creoles are pretty much related.
Belizean Creole(Kriol) and Nicaraguan Creole Are Just About Identical. Many Slaves Were Moved From Nicaragua To Belize(British Honduras) After The British Evacuation Of The Mosquito Coast. 1783
@Bing527 Mih noh think so. Belizean blacks were brought as slaves not from Nicaragua, but from Jamaica. I agree that Belizean and Nicaraguan Creole are alike. Costa Rican, Panama and San Andres are more alike with Jamaica.
