  • Hi guys!

    What are these at 0:39?

  • lovely drawing!!

  • You are the Master!

  • That was amazing!

I've been seeing your videos, and your work is fantastic. I really liked your explanations because I know that there are a lot people like me that couldn't study arts but we want to learn how to draw better and better. Seeing your work is inspirational and very educative.

    Congratulations.

    Saludos desde Chile!

  • great tutorial, its really nice to see how other artists work, I love the dragons. Out of interest how long does it take to do one of your drawings?

  • great tutorial, its really nice to see how other artists work, I love the dragons

  • This is so wierd. I watched this video in 2007 when it came out and I was amazed. It was just the techniques and the actual drawings you did that amazed me. The point I'm making is you're videos had a hand shaping how I went through shool with art and helped me decide what I want to do. Not to mention the argument I won with my Art teacher who was trying to tell me fantasy art isnt a true form of art, then I showed him you're videos and he had nothing else to say! Thanks

    Jam.

    Instant fan of your work

  • The Tortillions can be purchased at most art supply stores or on the web. They are also available with Prismacolor brand "drawing accessory kits

    Thank You for your comments

    Ed

  • Your the best drawer I've ever seen! So great! *.*

But how do i make this Tortillions?

  • brilliant

  • As a beginner is using your finger for smudging a bad idea?

  • Hi and thanks for tuning in. Using your finger, a piece of tissue paper, paper towel or the "Tortillions smudging rolled stumps" all are just as good as the next some easier and more precise than others. You just need to be able to shape them as you need. Keep on drawing!

  • Also..If you are working with graphite it helps to place your hand on another piece of paper to prevent the oils in your hands from smudging. Or you can use an easel:-) Wonderful video! Wow!

  • @NoLongerSilenced yes it is

  • u are so awesome!!! go please look my dragon and leave some comment how i can make it cooler. =D

  • Thank You, I tried to post a comment several times to your Dragon drawing but it never shows up. Strange? perhaps youtube taking much longer

  • Good video, great drawings and tips =). Nice to see a different style - fantasy, then just the realistic ones (which I have nothing against and didn't mean to critisize or offend anyone using it =) ) I would be glad if you could take a momment of your time to watch my video of (surreal, fantasy) drawings. Oh yeah 5 stars rate =).

  • Thanks, I just viewed your video and posted feedback.

Nice symbolic and spiritual feel. Very inovative. Keep up the good work,

    Ed

  • Practice and patience is the key ;) Great drawing, Ed! You are really talented

  • your a really great drawer i'm 13 and i like sketching to but i can't do anything like you but i suppose practise makes perfect

  • Hi practice and observation.Study anatomy structure the way parts connect. Practice each body part until you have it in memory. You can do it, and you have pleanty of time.

  • thanks for the advice

  • Try not to tell your self what you are seeing but instead let your eyes tell your mind what is really there. Look at the subject more than your paper. The obvious things are: study human, bird, anmimal and reptile anatomy. Undersatnd how the mechanics of it's function. Study light and shade, composition and balance to your art. Practice with passion and accept nothing less than perfection for the moment.

That would be a great start.

  • Hello ed i need some advise! I have been drawing scince i was able to talk(literaly) and i love it but i never really got much better and never had a chance to learn. Im 14 years now would like to ask you how can i learn to be a great artist like yourself? it would be really nice if you replyed to my comment.

  • Hi,

To answer your questions about my teaching, I had my own school for about 7 years however my demanding publishing career keeps me to busy to be at one location for long. I am on the road at least 6 mos out of a year. That's why I decided to start producing DVD instructions and post through and with help from my friend and associate Ken. I truly look forward to the day I will again have the chance to slow down a bit and teach directly and one on one in person someday.

  • Thank for replying i have one more question its about pastel chalks i bought some when i bought the charcoal pencils how do i use the charcoal i mean what kind of surface or paper normal paper or the sidewalks?

  • I never liked chalk however a good charcoal paper like a strathmore with a little tooth can help to smudge and blend the chalk. You should spray your art after with a fixitif to set the chalk and stop it from smudging when you are done. There is a benefit to chalk when using colored paper as you can use the base color for your mid tones and then just add the darks and highlights.

    Ed

  • thank you!!!!!!!!!!

  • Your an amazing freakin' artist. I heard you say something about your student, are you a teacher? A teacher in UK? Hope so, i love your art.

  • umm.. may i ask i bought an art tool and those charcoal pencils they had a sand paper thingie what is it used for?

  • The sand paper bar or tablet is for you to custom sharpen your pencils beyond what a standard pencil sharpener could do. It helps to give you a special angle on the tip for many different applications.

    Enjoy the video.
