  • Yeah this helps kids learn but this made me cry elmo scared thats not right

  • I can actually see how this would help kids understand an emergency, but not about understanding terrorism

  • How does this help anybody understand 9/11?

  • wait, elmo is a boy?! and why does he always speak in the third person?

  • i remember this episode

  • i helped my child understand 9/11 first by telling him they wernt terrorist attacks but false flag attacks that the usa government has used them thruought history to go to illegal wars and kill civilinas of other countries for no reson but to steal there reaspurces.then i told him building cant turn into powder or ollapse on thereselves in mere seconds,it defies physics.then i told him his school will try to brain wash him,thn i told him they will use it to take his freedoms away,i helped my kid

  • @18wheeler76 How old's your kid? haha

  • @18wheeler76 I hope your kid can spell better than you. Otherwise he'll end up a failure in life like yourself.

  • @ricemancometh wel i cnt help im so popular i just type away and dont care because i have millions of responses to get out.i love when idiots like you think that thats actually my speeling and not my typing,i guess we know who the failure is.ricemancomethonhismom

  • @ricemancometh lol,you have been on youtube for 6 years and have 1 subscriber,UM WINNING

  • @18wheeler76 excuse me while I go kill myself for having only 1 subscriber on youtube.... how can I ever live??!?!? moron.

  • @ricemancometh U CAN LIVE BY NOT TALKING SHIT TO PEOPLE FOR NO REASON,YOU FUCKIN RETARD.RICEMANCOMETHONHISMOM

  • @18wheeler76 that moment when you realize you're talking to a teenager lol. Talk to me when you hit puberty.

  • @ricemancometh RICEMANCOMEETHONHISDAD

  • @18wheeler76 please don't... my feelings are shattered

  • @18wheeler76

sounds like you have the capability of seeing through complicated issues while, at the same time, instilling a healthy sense of morbid fear in your child for all authority outside of the realm of your own insanity and whatever fox news tells you is going on. well done

  • @shawnaelise YEA MY KID IS REAL SCARED OF ALL SO CALLED AUTHORITY,WHO THE FUCK HAS AUTHORITY OVER YOU,IF YOU THINK ANYONE DOES YOUR A DOG WITH NO BALLS.

  • Since when do fire houses have matching glasses?

  • I gotta wonder if these are real NYC firefighters and not actors.

  • 9\11 made the number for 911

  • @chrisreamer8 that existed WAY before 9/11

  • What does this have to do with 9/11? I honestly don't see it...

  • I lol'd when alan said fire three times in a second XD

  • When 9/11 came, I was in Pre-K, I am a good 14 years old right now, and can't believe sesame street would do this episode in the honor.

  • This a very dark episode

  • A fire is at hooper's store

  • qwhen the fireman said his name was mr bill i laughed a little cuz elmo sounded like the puppet who used to say "ohh no mr bill noo!" lol

  • @melissa3289 lol...I thought about Mr. Bill too...lol

  • someone should tell Louis that elmo is stealing his lady lol

  • I don't know why...but I'm 21 and I got choked up watching this show and thinking of how I was on 9/11

  • I was in kindergarten when 9/11 came around. My parents were both still at work at the time, and my school bus took me home early to an empty house. I ended up wandering the street for a good hour before my mother came home. That said, I probably would have found a lot of comfort in this if I saw it.

  • You know..there are still days were I long to visit a place were there is now prejudice. Nobody cares how you look or the size of your bank account. So please will someone tell me how on earth do I get to Sesame street

  • @DioptricHalo Well the show is set in NYC, but I really don't know if it's really there since I've never been there

  • 11:40 squirt squirt squirt squirt squirt squirt!

  • Why did Elmo ask for a menu if he was going to order his usual?

    Elmo just trollin'?

  • @Guernicaman He was trying to be fancy.

  • Sweet fanny pack Maria

  • Maria: My name is Maria Rodriguez, I'm on Sesame Street, and there's a fire.

Fireman: That's great, lady, but can you tell me how to GET to Sesame Street?

  • @bajeezus1234

That is a good one buddy!

  • @bajeezus1234 LOL...That was messed up...lol...that was a good one..lol

  • I hate Elmo with a passion that burns with hellish intensity... But I cannot make fun of him here.

  • @KaneRobot It's on her abdomen, not her crotch.

  • I thought the hurricane on Sesame Street was the response to 9/11 but kinda of creepy that was BEFORE 9/11. Sesame Street are great when it comes to tackling the struggles in life and in the country.

  • @Jethrofinger Fact: The episode aired almost 5 months after 9/11, and production started immediatly following the tragic event.

  • 1 person is a terrorist.

  • Elmo was a doll that drove me nuts when I worked at Zellers. I thought he had zero value for kids. Yet this and knowing more about the guy who does Elmo and the reason for his being changes my mind. Very cool.

  • I don't understand what this has to do with 9/11.

This is about kids dealing with fire emergencies.

  • @Nanaman12345 Explain to a child what 9/11 is without bringing up death. Explain to a child why it happened without using religion and politics. Explain evil to a child. You can't. It's a lesson about coping with fear, understanding what firefighters are and what they do. Remember that Elmo is for children under the age of 3. I would imagine the only thing a 3 year old would understand about 9/11 is that the grownups around them are scared and worried, that's a very scary thing for a toddler.

  • @Mostlyharmless1985 NONE of that explains why this is strictly about 9/11. Nothing of this episode even came close to 9/11. This was a simple episode about fire/accidents and kids coping, not a terrorist attack.

  • @Nanaman12345 8:53 There's a mural of the WTC behind the firetruck. The Fireman even asked Elmo if "it" looked familiar. Elmo responded that he remembered. We will never forget.

  • this is4 9-11

  • I think the overall purpose of this episode was to explain to kids the importance of being safe if something goes wrong. There really wasn't any other way to explain to little kids about terrorist attacks and the total destruction of buildings. I tip my hat to Sesame Street for broaching something like this though.

  • In the mid 80's, when I was in elementary school, the firehouse was just across a four lane highway. Since my school was private, we had small classes, and could go for yearly fieldtrips. It was so much fun, they were always so nice, letting us climb all over their trucks and play in their house...everyone LOVED it. That firehouse is less than a mile from last year's deadly San Bruno pg&e explosion site. They weren't the same firefighters from when I was little, but it still really shook me up.

  • I remember this episode so clearly... Elmo's emotions were just so real.

  • sesame street has the best actors I will ever see. At 3:47 you can see Elmo swallow. Details man, DETAILS!

  • Thumbs up if you clicked the video thinking for some odd reason this had to do with 9/11 attacks?

  • Is it just me or does Bill look like Micheal J. Fox?

  • Im 13, and Seeing Elmo scared almost made me cry....

  • if i were a little kid (which i am at heart) i would've been pretty scared if i were watching this when that scary music came on.

  • FIrefighters are heros.

  • I was in the 7th grade on 9/11. I remember how, in 4th period, the head of my middle school came in and told my teacher that we were all going home early. They didn't tell us what was going on. I was in the cafeteria with the rest of the middle school, while my sister was in the gym with the high school, waiting to go home. When we found out what was going on, it was so hard, especially when we had to get my brother (who was in the 3rd grade at the time) off the bus and tell him what happened.

  • If Elmo doesn't go back into Hooper's Store, then the grease wins.

  • The greese is a terrorist.

  • I think I remember watching this when I was little.

  • of course maria wants fried chicken...[insert racist joke here]

  • @Jabarichonicles Even if that were remotely funny, which it's not, you're making yourself look really stupid. Because the 'joke' that you're referring to is made about BLACK people. Maria is HISPANIC. So not only are you racist....but you're stupid, too? Although those two things usually do go together. It's a good thing you're probably just a troll with nothing better to do of course.

  • @anyusernamewilldonot You took the words right out of my mouth.

  • This is nothing to do with 9/11 whatsoever.

  • @billythehick

It does in that it shows kids that they can't let fear overwhelm them. People were very scared after 9/11 and I think this deals with that subject in a gentle but poignant way. Just because they don't talk directly about the attacks doesn't mean it's note relevant.

  • Am I right in thinking he used a water fire extinguisher on a grease fire?

  • I like how they made Elmo scared instead of really brave. This makes it more real.

  • This has nothing to do with 11/9

  • How does this help kids understand 9/11?

  • @frenchfriequeen101 It helps them understand when something scary happens, you have to talk about it and not let fear overwhelm you. I know some people whose kids were afraid to go into tall buildings or fly after 9/11. By talking about it, by showing the precautions that were in place to reduce the risk, the children started to feel better.

  • @frenchfriequeen101 It doesn't. It's to teach kids about dialing 911 and being safe in an emergency.

  • Awwwww! 3:15 was so cute!

  • this dosn't explain anything!!!!

  • is it a house on fire..... wow

  • Elmos a bitch. lol

  • this is the fucking most disturbing shit

  • i think what elmo is ordering is super scrumptious

  • There was a fire on Sesame St. when I was a kid, but I can't remember what the episode was about so I dunno how to find it.

  • "Gimme the menu you fucking celestial!"

  • @Zebonka

    What?

  • Youtube seems to have broken linked commenting so I am not sure which comment of mine you are responding to. I'll go with the one I'm actually interested in - when I was about 5, Australian TV aired an episode of Sesame St. where there was some kind of fire. I can't recall what the storyline was but I thought it was scary at the time.

  • @Zebonka

I was asking about the Celestia comment.

  • OH that, I was paraphrasing Deadwood.

  • Awesome vid!

  • I was only 2 and a half when 9/11 happened, but for some reason i have a really vivid memory of it

  • I was in first period science in 7th grade on 9/11, and my school just told us to turn on the tv when we got home >.>

  • There seems to be quite a bit of interest in discussing how old viewers were and what they were doing when 9/11 took place. I may as well volunteer that I was in my early thirties and working in a wearhouse on Route 1 in New Jersey.

  • 1 was 9 months old when 9/11 happened.

  • anyone seen the new Sesame Street episodes? Maria and Hooper look sooo old

  • @Mikerulez101

How can Mr. Hooper be in a new episode? He has been dead for decades! Maybe you are thinking of Allen who presently owns a operates the store.

  • @Smartboy8877 I am haha my bad =P

  • @Mikerulez101

Glad we cleared that one up!

  • @Mikerulez101

Hooper has been dead since the 80's.

I don't even remember Mr.Hooper, he died when I was still quite young.

  • @Mikerulez101 Well they were with the show since the first few seasons XD

  • @Mikerulez101 MR. Hooper died in 1985. No big deal because you are probably only about 10.

  • @pattierney33

Will Lee died in 1982. Thing is, the writers of "Sesame Street" didn't get around to writing Mr. Hooper out until late 1983.

  • @Mikerulez101 You mean Alan? Who is running Hooper's store these days?

  • @Mikerulez101 hate to brake it to you but mr.hooper has been dead since 1982

  • @Mikerulez101 Well, I'd imagine Hooper wouldn't look so good - he's been dead thirty years. :-)

  • @Mikerulez101 Hooper died over 20 years ago.

  • I was a freshman in college when 9/11 happened. You ALL make ME feel old!

  • I was in 9th grade when 9/11 happened!

  • @itswillbois @Mikerulez101 I was in high school. You both make me feel old.

  • I actually have this on VHS.

  • lol when i saw the store owner i was thinking " hurry up and buy!!!!!!"

  • was it just me or did the fire fighter say r u fucks ok XD

  • @ itswillbois & Mikerulez101 kindergarten and 4th Grade huh talk abourt feeling old I was in my last year of college during 9/11. Interesting Episode.

  • I've heard about this episode in 2001 and I was too afraid to watch it at the time, but I'm glad I get a chance to watch it.

  • i'm serious when I say that Elmo looks like my freind's pomeranian when he was shaking. She looks scared out of her mind just like him

  • WATCH THE HANDS, ELMO

  • Is Elmo on his first date?

  • omg Bill is an amazing person!

  • America... F*** yeah...

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, seeing how scared Elmo was was heart breaking. I'm actually tearing up and I'm almost 29!

  • @SanFranGirl1982 ...I'm tearing up as well and I'm 68! My kids grew up with Sesame Street, loved them then, still love them today. My dog, Mickey, watched Elmo for a couple of seconds when I was channel-surfing and then went behind the TV to see where he was! Adorable!

  • @SanFranGirl1982 thats normal! i 48 and i cracked up too..

  • @SanFranGirl1982 Same and I'm 31!

  • ... Meh, Arthur did it better.

  • what does this have to do with 9/11?

  • @dmcarefuldriver

Obviously they weren't going to have Sesame Street attacked by terrorists... this about coping with fear in the aftermath of a tragedy or disaster.

  • I Was In 6th Grade When 9/11 Happened

  • I just wanna hug Elmo!

  • @lovekyds Me too!

  • This is nuts. I got to 1:38 and started crying like a baby. What the hell? I'll need to seriously man up if I'm gonna get through this one. Poor Elmo.

  • I was in Kindergarten too :)

  • Aw.. Elmo is scared.

  • 11:03 Elmo's voice made me cry

  • Comment removed

  • 3:40 to 4:11 - Poor Elmo isn't sure of what to do.

  • When I was a kid, I used to have such a crush on Maria!

  • Sesame street has brought to you by all of the firefighters who help to keep us safe and by the numbers 9 and 11.

  • i would never have guessed that this was a 9/11 special

  • Is that a real NY fire fighter?

  • @michaelermcgowaniv Yes, Bill Walsh. He also played on "Third Watch." I hope that your question has been answered.

  • I believe Elmo got scared from the fire in Hooper's Store

  • This gave me chils when they showed the smoke coming out of the front door. I was 8 years old when it happened. I didn't understand what the big deal was when I found out with my classmates at school. But when I got home, I knew it was really sad.

  • i was in 1st grade

  • i forget what happend on 9/11

  • i dont get it theres nothing to do with 9/11

  • @Ro6278 I know this was filmed around the time that 9/11 happened. I'm guessing they filmed this to make it a little less scary for children so that they would understand that the firefighters at Ground Zero were there to help people. I do remember flipping past PBS about two or three days after the attacks just before Sesame Street was about to start and Elmo and Maria were talking about about the attacks and telling the kids at home not to be scared of what they were seeing on TV.

  • Okay. I'm 27 years old. Firefighter Bill is awesome anyway.

  • It's about how once kids see something terrible happen once, they're scared it'll happen again. For those who remember, it was such a scary time, and people were scared to go to work, to school. It was unimaginable. Just like a fire in a friend's store as seen in this video.

  • how does this teach about 9/11?

  • 9/11 was my first day of kindergarten...

  • @itswillbois damn, you make me feel old. I was in 4th grade.

  • @Mikerulez101 So was I turning 20 this sunday, it's gonna be weird.

  • @Mikerulez101 Whatever youngin', I was in the 7th grade

  • @Mikerulez101 Me too!

  • @Mikerulez101 oh yeah i was only in preschool

  • @Mikerulez101 You make ME feel old! I was 17!

  • @crocetti1984 I was 13..

  • @Mikerulez101 You feel old? I was in high school!

  • @Mikerulez101 third for me..dad went to Afghanistan afterwards

  • @Mikerulez101 Ha, me too, first day of 4th grade.

  • @Mikerulez101 me too!

  • @Mikerulez101 I watched that live on TV in highschool....

  • @Mikerulez101 i was a freshman in highschool.....

  • @itswillbois I can't believe there's some people who were so young when this happened. I was 9 and I'll never forget it. Damn all the people 17 and younger! You guys didn't have to remember or see anything. (You're really lucky. And if anyone lost anybody during this attack, I'm sorry for your loss.)

  • @itswillbois sweet crap same here

  • @itswillbois It was one of my first days of Kindergarten, too.
