  • this story is beautiful......

  • When did she die :(

  • im glad that those fireman found the little girl... but i bet she had the best last days of her life...

  • lÔl_Í_fÈél_sÖ_lOñélý_t0dãy

  • poor baby :( RIP

  • R.I.P Little buddy! :(

  • she was so damn cute! ;(.

  • Rest in Peace, little Sam...

  • "In the wild Koalas can live 12-14 years. But if someone is taking care of them, or if they are in captivity they can live 16-20 years. Each day a koala bear eats 40 oz of eucalyptus leaves. They are very picky eaters. Koalas eat the moist tender tips of the eucalyptus leaves. A meal gives a koala all the food and water it needs."

  • your country burned once our country had that every day, god bless our country and australia, (lebanon)

  • I'm a Victorian - and this footage was probably the one saving grace to an atrocious few weeks...It is a real shame Sam passed away :(

  • R.I.P little koala angel Sam. Your right gottaliv, we should all be happy that she lived. She's in a better place now.

  • What a lot of trust wee Sam gave to her helpers. I followed her story from day one. Rest in peace Sam. Your carers must be in a lot of pain when you died.

  • So sad , RIP, little Sam,

And sincere condoleances to those who helped her, and of course to 'Bob' the male koala, her boyfriend, always close to her.

  • RIP Sam:( You are now in koala heaven:(

  • This is so sad, i didn't know Sam had died till i watched this video.

I so love the video of her drinking the water from the firefighters bottle, bless her.

  • Sam's final resting place of honour will be in the Melbourne Museum right next to Phar Lap.

"The story of Sam will help us to understand and remember the devastation that the events of February 2009 had on the people of this state and their extraordinary determination to recover and move forward with their lives."

Her spirit will live on in the people to whom she was very important, we won't forget her.

  • What a tragic loss, thank you to all that helped pull her through she did not die in vain you all are truly angels sent by god to help our animals, she's now playing in heavens trees with all her koala friends that were lost in the fires. You can rest now sweet little sam you're free from pain and suffering

  • @gottaliv what happend february 2009? lol

  • To my Aussie friends and fellow animal lovers...

so sorry about the loss of Sam.

Thank you to all the firefighters and rescue personnel that help people and animals alike during those terrible fires.

Thank you to the people helping injured animals and to Sam's caretakers.

    Rest in peace,dear Sam.

  • You poor little bugger...after all you went through your life was cut short. May you rest in peace little mate.

  • Sam, you will always be in my mind. Rest in peace, sweet little creature.

  • oh what a sweet face he was.

    RIP sam you'l b missed.

  • So cute. Sam is in animal heaven now. :,(

  • Forever remembered, Sam.

  • May he lord bless these guys, they are so full of his grace. Yes love animals and stop eating them, they also suffer pain like us.

  • Poor little fella,R.I.P.

  • Sam, our famous Koala, has died today.

She was to undergo surgery to treat cysts as a result of urogenital chlamydiosis, a life-threatening disease that affects 50 per cent of the Koala population.

Vet John Butler told waiting media outside Morwell Veterinary Clinic "Due to complications with the disease, the best course of action was to put Sam down.

Colleen Wood and her team at Southern Ash Wildlife shelter and all who were involved with Sam are devastated by this loss.

    RIP Sam. :(

  • gottaliv ....I hear there is talk of a memorial for Sam.

I think this is a new turning point for the welfare of animals and wildlife. It astounds me at how many people care for there pets these days, this is very good. The expression of sympathy all because of a dear and very appreciative kaola called Sam.

  • MRMILO57 "....I hear there is talk of a memorial for Sam."

Thanks for that info, good to hear - there's a reason for everything eh, and Sam gave people a reason to hang in there who desperately needed something out of the ordinary to believe in. She did what was needed when it was needed the most and now she's at peace.

As well as being sad that she died we should also be very happy that she lived. I am. :)

  • Due to the amount of scum-bags posting porn sites in the comments, commenting is now disabled.

To the people still wanting to help Australia's wild-life please click on the link in the blurb to the right for more information.

It will take many years to recover what we once had but some things will never be recovered, so help will be needed for a long time to come. Anything at all you can contribute will be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou to all others for the positive and kind comments.

  • I've just posted a poem in the info section on the right, if interested please read. I don't know the author but she/he describes the situation so well, and it really is so sad.

  • Me and my friend Julia love koalas!

  • see? we can get along and help each other. this story is truly inspiring.

  • ;< that koala looks very sad when she looks at the camera...

  • Ok - I believe in the concept of "free speech" but some people take it too far. So here's the deal.

This is not the time for Aussie bashing or the place to express hatred, racial, religious or gay issues...there are plenty of those videos elsewhere on YouTube for that. So I'm exercising my rights as owner and deleting the cruel and disrespectful comments made by SylvieKloot for starters.

People with vendettas, please go elsewhere as you're not welcome here.

  • THANK YOU

  • ok so Australians are racist?? What fucking country are you from asshole??

    heres a hint.

    GET A LIFE wankers!

you assholes make me sick. hundreds of people and animals died and youre all bitching about racism. for fucks sakes. grow a fucking heart or piss off, cuz noones interested in your fucking shit. and get ur ass off ur fucking computer and get a life!

  • What an adorable little animal! I'd love to see a video of her meeting her boyfriend. lol

  • i cannot believe i have read that, you obviously havent heard of australian mateship or infact ever been to australia.

at a time like this all australians come together no matter what and help out were they can and give what they can its just a real shame that your people cant do the same.

and Unbiased007 you are very right aussies and americans are brothers in arms :) its amazing to see what you americans are doing to help us is amazing and i thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

  • Evidently this exactly the opposite. The only people who are not supporting Australia are hateful trolls like you.

  • Love this video. Thank you for posting it...and apologies for some of the ridiculous comments above.

  • Brahahaha!

SylvieKloot must be with the media- using a word like "subsumed" so severely out of context whilst trying to sound so authoritative. What a clown.

  • Sylviekloot is a Korean born, male Japanese language student with mental problems and links to the mafia.

  • Rather than get upset by this comment ...I find it totally laughable..no one except a lunatic will agree with your bizarre thoughts..thanks for the laugh (at you !!)

    Proud to be Australian !!

  • It's surprising we got this far before the hateful, racist, and homophobic comments started. There's only been 2 half-hearted ones before SylvieKloot's. Does this mean we're improving, or deteriorating???

    :)))

  • Where are you from SylvieKloot?

  • i just read a lot of the hating comments, some people is really pathetic. I hope no more animals or people die in Australia. That really sucks. Americans and Australians are brothers.

  • Fire, no matter where it happens is devastating. This story gives hope for us all. For all the people who lost their lives, the wildlife who tried to wonder what was happening and lost their way, God has made a place for you. I heard that this fire was arson..so for the ones who did this..I hope that when you try and sleep, that they come back and HAUNT YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR PATHETIC LIVES!!!!!

For the ones who were saved, be aware that there are still caring people in this world...

  • Australian are hypocrites. Oh poor Sam, what a good bloke for saving Sam. When the CFA ark up the bush on a prescribed burn they do so knowing that thousands of Koalas, Kangaroos, Lizzards, Possums and other native wildlife are going to perish by the end of it. Another fact is after a prescribed burn the bush grows back more lush as certain species of plants need fire and smoke to germinate. If you want to help, help the wildlife by donating to see they for once are looked after.

  • Australians generally aren't hypocrites but I understand what you're saying. What's better tho, to loose some animals in a "prescribed burn" or to loose people, thousands of acres of bush, and millions of animals in an uncontrolled burn? I don't like the thought of either. And yes, help by donating to the wildlife shelters, they always need funds, not only in times like this.

  • great vid 5/5

  • thank you soo much to all the fighter fighters out there, i think they all deserve a well good medeal by far for braver to help fight the fires..

Sam the Koala is one brave special koala tht's for sure..

it made me cry a little just for ome one to help her/ hm.. she's one tough cookie..

thank you soo much to every one who has helps in some form or another.. you all did well..

    thank heaps...:)

  • That was so precious...*s*

  • Listen here Cunt...Pull your fucking head in!!!! have some respect...If that is too much for a piece of shit like you to do then dont post here...

  • I hope you never have to feel real loss or sadness as you are obviously too weak and too much of a coward to deal with anything like that. I feel sorry for you as you are obviouls bored and ingnorant.

  • You heartless bastard if people like you were never born this world would be a much better place i hope one day you loose everything you have so you could feel a shred of what those people are feeling, grow up.

  • dude, you're from america.... the definition of funny

  • I agree the guy is a dick. Why do you have to start ripping on America asshole?

God Bless all the brave firefighters over there. I hope your luck starts turning around soon with the fires and drought.

  • I'm ripping on america because he is making fun of Australia in the midst of a horrible tragedy for them.

If I were to rip on America right after 9/11 i'd get beheaded...

He has no heart -> only double standard

  • You also have to keep in mind that you really don't know where this idiot is from and the simple fact that there are jackasses that go around from video to video and try to upset people by saying inflammatory things. Getting upset by it is falling right into their traps, so is fighting with other people and dissing other peoples home countries or customs. This is how they get their jollies. Theyre just assholes plain and simple. Unfortunately, all countries have themsome more than others.

  • are you a wanker or wat mate i know this guy and his probly a better block then u will ever be.......

wat are u doing why the fires are on F^&k all at least his doing his bit for the world

  • @SrpskiBrod HAVE LATELY COME ACROSS ACOMMENT MADE ON KOALA IMTHINKIN THAT THIS PERSON CANT FIND AN ACUAL BEING TO TALK WITH HIM ON HIS HOMOPHOBIC AND HATEFUL IDEAS.THIS PERSON THOUGHTS TELL ME THAT HE WAS NOT FROM USA,ALTHOUGH ITS IMPORTANT ENUFF TO ME TO TELL U .I AM AMERICAN AND I CHERISH ALL NATURE PEOPLE,GODS GIFTS BUT DO NOT LOOK FOR HATRED THAT VERY WRETCHED PEEPS MUST VENT IN ORDER TO B RITE WITH THE WORLD.iVE READ HIS EXACT SAME COMMENTS ON OTHER SITES DIFFERENT SUBJECTS-YOUTUBE /

  • i take it your not from aust so you didnt realise how fucking bad it was, i really dont give a flying fuck where your from but if your from america how would you like it if we said shit like that when sept 11 happend????

  • @mrsdohring IM FROM AMERICA AND IM ASHAMED OF IDIOTS THAT SAY IGNORANT SHIT SUCH AS EXTRAMURAL TOTALLY STUPID SPEW.i LOVE ANIMALS AND AUSTRAILIA IS THE HOME OF MANY ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVIST (CAN YOU SAY STEVE IRWIN ANYONE?)PLEASE ACCEPT MY REGRET ON BEHALF OF (IF HE TRULY WAS AMERICAN)BLOODY STUPID STEAMING PILES OF OFFAL SUCH AS THE IDIOT KNOWN AS EXTRAMURAL

  • Wow. I don't believe I've ever met, talked to, or even read a comment as pathetic as yours. Honestly, do you have no heart? I cannot believe what horrible person you are. I hope we aren't corrupted by your presence much longer. How can you laugh at our loss? Get a job, and grow up.

  • BELLS will ring across Victoria on Sunday 22-02-09 - 11am as the nation stops to remember the victims of the state's deadly bushfires, with the toll now at 209.

A ringing of the Federation Bells at Birrarung Marr at 11am will signal the start of the National Day of Mourning service at Rod Laver Arena. It will broadcast live on TV as well as at live sites across the city.

Premier John Brumby today encouraged churches, town halls and other facilities to ring their bells at the same time.

  • poor koala!! D:

Her hands were all burned up!

  • Oh, she's so cute. I also love Australian accents so the narration rocks. My sympathy for victims of the fires

  • ..... aww!

  • Sam is so cute! haha i love Koala's

  • Aw so sorry - I punched a "thumb down" by mistake..! Pls accept apologies, of course I meant the contrary!

  • One guys being a jerk starting a fire and millions are being nice trying to help. How does that happen?

  • It defies explanation. There are alot of freaks in the world who get their kicks out of hurting or killing other people and everything else around them. Arson is a huge problem in Australia :( especially in summer when humidity is low and the amount of fuel on the ground is high.

  • Thank you Mr, fireman!!!

  • hes soo cute

  • I want to wish everyone in Australia all the best luck. I am a New Yorker and I was there when the terrorist attacks happened. I saw so many things that I could never forget, and I know when a disaster like this happens it is easy to lose all hope for the future, but you have a beautiful nation filled with beautiful people and that alone will be enough to carry you through. I am donating to the AUS Red Cross and I encourage everyone here to if you can. Again, very best of wishes from America!

  • Its good to see that in australia people care for the animals, unlike china.

  • what's wrong with China this time?

  • Just search: "china animal cruelty " and you´ll see what I mean.

  • @dsam74 YOU ARE SOOOO CORRECT

  • Actually, China takes better care of its animals (eg pandas) than it does some of its own people (think: Tibet!)

  • Let's stop buying anything Made In China or get rid of something Made In China.

Let's stop buying anything Made of Leather or part of animal bodies.

Let's stop eating meat, steak or seafood!!!

You seem to know everything and criticize everything, let's see how much you can do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chillax dude.

  • @gumnutbaby74 CHINA EATS CATS AND DOGS(DOMESTECATED COMPANION ANIMALS.THEY KEEPTHEM ALIVE TILL SLAUGHTER BECAUSE THEY NEEDTO TERRFIFY THE ANIMAL VICTIM WITH TORTURE SO THE ADERNALIN WILL FLOW TO ITS MUSCLE TISSUE IN ORDER TO REND A MORE TENDER FLESH.BON APPATITE.TREATS EM BETTER?.THE LIVES THAT CANNOT SPEAK UP?LIKE HUMANS?WHERE.?HUMAN IS THE ROOT WORD FOR HUMANE.WHERE IS THE HUMANITY?.PANDAS BRING CHINESE RECOGNITION AND COMMERCE.LIKE TREATING YOUR DIAMOND RING CAREFULLY.

  • hopefully sam recover well, sam is a luckies koala ever.

  • and off coarse you have had zero impact during your time on this earth. Hypocrite

    Busaboc

  • Thanks to all for helping those beautiful animals!

  • beautiful animal great story.

  • Sam is so cute, and seeing David with her is really precious

  • news correspondent is really hot

  • yeah...she is.

  • shes not that good there are much better ones on aus tv

  • Es hermoso ver como se rescata a un koala ,felicitaciones a los rescatistas y carcel perpetua para los provocadores de incendio. Is beatifull

  • Deeply compassion from Germany (Fränkische Schweiz)to all demages in our country.

I am speechless in considering of this firedesaster. so many people are died,

nevertheless: an animale like "Sam" and his

rescuer giving hope for a better world!

  • Hopefully "Sam" can become an ambassador for Australia and stop the current massive slaughter of our wildlife.

  • You're doing a bang-up job spamming the crap out of all these Wildfire videos. Way to use tragedy to further your own ideology!

  • Wow, when you say it like that, you're right! You're not spamming us, just "repeating" yourself on all the similar videos.

And you're not trying to do so in a way to bring attention to your own beliefs. Why, no! You're speaking on behalf of the animals that you're trying to help.

I was so wrong to think otherwise.

  • Seriously...Your Not Helping your cause!

Give some of us effected by the fires a glimmer of happiness in our sad days.......

    and go away......

  • this story melted my heart.

  • MYPanicAttack = self-righteous + patronizing + gay

    how're them panic attacks going?

  • Jesus Loves You and so do I...

but it doesn't mean that I have to like you... have a blessed week

  • Hey Crapcannons, how's the homophobia going??

  • I admire Oscar Wilde, Jean Cocteau, and Morrissey, so you don't know what you're talking about.

`gay', in this context ,does not mean homosexual.

if you watch South Park you'll know what it means.

  • So say that if that's what you mean then! If you call someone gay online it's going to be interpreted as an attack on their sexuality.

  • It might be obvious to you but it is open to interpretation by others. I think the thumbs down you've just received proves my point!!

  • *slaps own forehead*

Of course, you are SOOO right. I'm just so damaged and touchy aren't I...

    hahahaha!

  • I'd christen the koala Cass - after the Dinky Di

  • ahh..such a heart warming scene

  • Omg :x So beautiful adn sweet.

  • So cute:D I love koala:D

  • aaaaaa!! k pichudo me hizo llorar y hablen bien no hablen en chamaco k no entiendo a mi k

  • ;-; so cute

  • its good to see that david and the firefighting crew was able to rescue a koala.

    good luck, with the fires

  • Is this true, do you know?

My brother who lives in Australia wrote and told me not to buy Fosters beer. The reason he gave was that those of their workforce who signed up as volunteer firefighters were made redundant on their return to work.

    Anyone know anything about this?

  • First of all, volunteers can't be made redundant as they don't get paid. Second, there are hundreds of fire fighters still in Victoria who came from the other States in Oz. Third, there are several fires still burning which are still keeping the men very busy. Perhaps some of the fire fighters from the other States may have been sent back if they're no longer required, so may-be that's what your brother heard. But I haven't heard anything about anyone being sent home yet.

  • Read the question properly, I don't think Meezer means that they were made redundant from fire fighting, the were made redundant from Fosters because Fosters didn't like that they signed up to volunteer and didn't turn up to work. Maybe?

  • Thanks, bustysc, that IS what I meant.

People who work for Fosters volunteered to be temporary volunteer firefighters. This wasn't their usual job.

Because the fire was so huge, a lot of extra help was needed, and Fosters employees went to help. But when the fire was out and they went back to work, Fosters made them redundant.

I have had confirmation that this outrageous story is in fact true.

  • Sorry, I misunderstood your comment, it's so obvious now. :( Blond or tired or both!

But I wish it had been the way I first read it as now I'm hopping mad! I'm so mad I don't even know what to say to that.

If it IS true, may-be something like, Fosters have dug their own grave because no self respecting Aussie will let them get away with that so I see a big boycott coming up. Need official confirmation first though and if it's true, well there are plenty of other beers to choose from!

  • OK, found this...Google "Workers sacked while saving lives" for the full story.

*THREE of Victoria's firefighting heroes were sacked by Foster's as they battled to save lives. The three men are among 115 maintenance workers to be laid off by Foster's at its Abbotsford brewery. *

They weren't sacked for not being at work, but this is a case of extreme insensitivity on the behalf of Fosters and very very bad timing. Bet their sales drop fast!!!

  • gottaliv IT's shit beer anyway. But it gives me another reason not to drink it. Absolutely agree. Insensitive bastards!!!!

  • i hope i have one of those koala.cute

  • I just contributed 10 euros to a fund to save these poor animals...

    I hope 10 is ok as i am a poor student ;)

  • Of course it's OK. You're very kind.

  • At 0:37 You can see a big towel on the handle to the oven door. What a great way to start up a fire!

  • That looks like so much fun! I wish I could do stuff like that, It looks like there having a great time. Great video b by the way.

    "Comment removed by author "

I don't know what's going on here but I never removed your comment...I don't even know what you said. I believe in freedom of speech and won't remove a comment unless it's disgusting - IMO.

  • oh that just means that the person who wrote the comment deleted it themselves using the "remove" button.

    cheers :)

  • She's adorable... =)

  • how cute...i like her ears...

  • people keep going on about the people that died....I know its sad but what about these animals, over 1 million of them have died and yet they're not getting any attention. Red cross donation are all going to the human...what about the poor animals that have also lost their home and family member T_T* I wanna help them but I dont know how ....

  • donate to the rspca

  • Google Wildlife Victoria.

There's a 1300 number you can ring or you can donate on-line.

They also need food donations and volunteer helpers.

  • donate to the victorian RSPCA and animal shelters. many farmers have lost their animals but they still have some but no food to feed them with so Red Cross donations will go towards helping them. there have been animal shelters working across victoria in animal rescue, Sam was given water by the fireman but they had to leave her & attend a house fire, not long later she was picked up by animal rescue, just cos we don't hear about them doesn't mean they aren't out there saving the animals=)

  • I've heard that all the organisations are working in with each other so they all benefit from the donations and none miss out. Hope that's right as there are just so many who need help. Also, a local vet hired a helicopter and is flying around euthanasing animals who can't be saved and other vets are treating animals before being sent to the shelters. There's lots of good people doing good things in our wonderful country who we'll never hear about. Bless 'em all.

  • Too right, gottaliv! For every dickheaded Danny Nalliah and subhuman arsonist, there are thousands of decent Aussies pulling together. I'm proud of my compatriots.

  • I bet I'd be having animals in my kitchen too if I was anywhere near there, I am a sucker for animals. Sam is so cute.

  • God bless you mate.

  • I want to give Sam a hug and shake David's hand :)

  • I want to give David a hug what a great human being

  • Type "SAMANTHA THE KOALA FINDS LOVE IN RESCUE SHELTER" into search box.

  • thanks warcameras

  • God bless all helpers down under - you're doing so good - best wishes for Sam ! I wish I could be there to help...

  • I know how you feel but don't be so angry. Forget the media and take this for what it is, a symbol of hope for people who really need it right now. It was a very special touching moment when people needed to be touched. I'm hoping like crazy nothing happens to Sam and keeping everything crossed for her recovery.

  • Oooohh, sweet. It's devastating what can happen in a few days. I never thought that it would be so serious and worldwide! Around 200 people died and around a million of the wildlife perished which has thought to have wiped out some species entirley. Yet I can't get over this video, it's so touching that Sam could trust David that way. All my thanks to the firefighters out there, you should feel so pround of what you have done for our country!! Oh and Sam apparently drank 5 bottles not three!!

  • We Canucks are cheering for everyones recovery down south. Afterall, we're part of that thing they call the 'Commonwealth'.

I am proud to have sent funds to help with the recovery there in the state of Victoria.

People and critters. I'm hoping I've helped from afar as best I could.

  • Many Blessings to David and the firefighters, And many blessings to poor little Sam the Koala. Our thoughts and prayers are will all in Australia.

    With love from the UK,

    Goldie-Annabelle.

  • great my heart goes to poor little sam

  • that is so sad and adorable my heart go's out to sam poor little koala :- ) good luck to her!

    peace out

  • Spot on that's Gold

  • tximeleta35..

yes they are only in Aus, they are quite easy to see in the trees if not too high up, and sometimes are not always as far out as the bush. they are usually a friendly animal unless aggrivated, intimidated etc just like any animal. at our zoo's, you can get pics holding them.

  • David, you and all the firefighters are heroes. I'm sure Sam will never forget you.

  • David, God bless you and all you did for this helpless and thirsty little guy! I hope God has a special place in Heaven for you and those who are helping defenseless animals in Australia at this time as well as all the people....

  • A true aussie saves..not destroys. I am proud to be Australian because of men like David. Thanks mate..you retore human faith.

  • If we could all do the same for animals around the world. instead of destroying their habitat, we could save their life like david did. thank you david...
