STAY AWAY FROM THESE DRUGS PEOPLE......It CHANGES YOU IN A WAY you never know.
@Indianatheistblore I couldn't agree more. I was on prozac for a while. At first I felt great but I as the days passed I realized I was not feeling happy, actually my emotions were kind of under anesthesia. And when I wasn't feeling like a zombie I was extremely angry and started having violent thoughts. Worst time of my life. I am relieved that I quit before it was too late.
Ironically the video decrys emotional programming while using only emotion as its proof. It is clearly a dated and strongly biased anti-med piece, with little desire to help the truly depressed. A great piece to scare away those that might otherwise benefit from a proper diagnosis and finding the right SSRI that works for them. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, herbs, & yoga can only do so much for some.
BEWARE.....Prozac tends to be a "double edged sword".....for some people it is the magic silver bullet.....for others HELL. When I was on it I dreamed of violently killing people every single night (fortunately it was always in self defense). It made me very agressive too. Only after taking it for a short peroid of time do I realize that all these lawyers using Prozac as a defense for their clients who went berserk and killed someone may actually be correct
Please, everybody who is partaking in all these fallacies, accusing each other of not having "real" depression, or of being ignorant, just stop. You're not helping anybody, you're just increasing the sense of isolation which people often feel when trying to seek help.
@JosipMiller thank you for posting this. i have known so many people that all they do is take prozac and they believe the shrink that tells them that this drug is balancing out their serotonin to a normal level, thus making them psychologically healthier. true psychological health doesn't come from taking any drugs at all, but facing those obstacles with many support mechanisms around a person including diet w/natural supplementation, exercise and supportive people.
It does nothing but temporarily inhibit those inhibitory neurons linked to mood and and positive cognition. Shame on its developers; a quick fix for those who are desperately seeking help for their problems. The underlying problem needs to be discovered then depression can be treated properly and accurately. This is not the way at all...anything temporary that effects mood is pointless. This is no better than cocaine.
@gregthesenior12 You're a fucking dumbass for comparing an SSRI to cocaine. You obviously have no fucking idea about basic biochemistry and neurobiology so you should probably do yourself a favor and shut the fuck up. Any type of relief for patients is the number one priority in medicine, and if you knew shit about anything, you would know that SSRIs are not inherently evil.
@ITeslaI If you stop insulting people and start informing yourself you will learn that e.g. Ritalin causes a euphoric state of mind very close to amphetamine and cocaine effects. SSRIs are no better.
@znikacz SSRIs eventually contributes to the downregulation of receptors which may be responsible for the emotional flattening some observe. Users often (but not always)
report a blunted affect after taking them for a few weeks.
@ITeslaI SRRIs can damage people's lives just as bad as cocaine. and i think she was saying that popping this pills is the same as drinking your trouble away or using other drugs to make your problems go away, never works.
@ITeslaI Yet still they have the fucking urge in their twisted minds, to look up teenagers and adults who they deem mentally ill, it's fucking despicable, they should all burn in hell for what they are still doing up to this day.
@gregthesenior12 What is the underlying mechanism? We do know that SSRIs increase the concentration of zinc in the hippocampus, just like ECT does. We also know that neurogenesis is involved, and then there's neuronal reuptake inhibition going on. Then there's a downregulation of receptors. Companies cannot say they know its mechanism for sure as they are not allowed to crack open skulls of live patients at this time.

IMPORTANT i work with children, small babies. is it safe to still be in sole charge of them? it petrifies me i can do smt dangerous or agressive!
@alinecalves The solution is simple. DONT TAKE THE DRUG!!!
Sadness and anxiety are part of being human. Don't give up your humanity because you want life to be perfect. It will never be perfect and the best thing for you to do is to deal with your problems rather than run from them by using drugs.
@LightTheWhite what do we do if the problem cant be solved? such as social anxiety and sudden loss of interest in everything? sadness and anxiety is a part if our lives but what do you do if you have been feeling it for years and end up having weeks of suicidal thoughts? we should take these as a last resort
@LightTheWhite Who says depression is sadness? I would give anything, anything to be able to cry, get drunk, sing sad songs and maybe hire a prostitute or something because I'm sad and heartbroken. That's life, man. That's good. In fact, sadness is precious. Bereavement is a godsend. Tears are good. They make you feel alive. Now, in the darkest pit of depression, I realize that. Depression is just nothingness; you breathe, you eat... but you're not alive. You're just dead inside.
@LesPaul2006 In my experience, depression is a sadness, but not a kind of sadness which most people experience regularly. It's as you describe, an emptiness, a "dead" feeling.
@RedDwarffs Yes. And also, in my experience, with depression came a sort of extreme distortion of reality, as if the world was made of cardboard, not even a roadsign had any meaning or sense anymore (which is absolutely terrifying), and a complete loss of cognitive power. I was left with the IQ of a drunk retarded monkey (short term memory? What's that?) and the motivation of a dead hag. I felt there was something wrong with my brain. And I'm only 26.
@coolbrian69 Weed is expensive though lol, I enjoy it but not something I want regulary : / But having it every now and then for like 3-7 days sorts me out for a while. I've nothing bad to say about weed, people think drug and get way too opiniative about it :S

@extradutyfelt1 i strongly urge you to seek the professional services of a doctor that uses nutritional therapy, along with exercise, etc, in their counsel for you. enough cannot be said about diet and nutritional supplementation and exercise for a healthier mind. also change your environment. if there are people or your living arrangements that contribute to the problems, change them. find things that keep you interested and your mind focused and always learning. all these things are crucial.
