Thanks to the security folks, or whoever, for capturing this. Thanks for uploading for all of us to enjoy. I guess it IS possible to be a fly on the wall.
With Beatles in mind, I've posted the video, "40 years in 3 minutes", which is a music video containing the Beatles' rooftop performance, historical events over the last 40 years and 8mm film antics from the period, all cut tightly to GET BACK and GLASS ONION. Hope you enjoy!
@myrtlebox hey, you're right about mal evans playing the anvil. if wikipedia can be trusted on this, mal played the anvil on the "let it be" film version and ringo played the anvil on the studio version.
only three and a half years passed between the july 1965 release of the "help!" single and this january 1969 session. and yet @1:56-2:30 john & paul place themselves at ironic remove from that earlier sound. that's a tribute to how rapidly they developed and innovated in that time span. how many of today's hit artists are so far removed from their hits of 2007 that they can make fun of them?
@abingdon66 No. They were virtually never under influence in studio (aside from tea). They learned their lesson way back in '65 when they DID try it. Anthology has them talking about it a lot. I think Ringo relates the story that when they did record stoned, they would play it back and realize it was crap.
They are just really tired here. These LIB sessions were the beginning of the end for them. Much better than the Twickenham sessions though.
@robertmastroianni Sorry, I can't find any reference to corroborate your comment anywhere on internet. I have looked high and low. Please cite your reference.
6/30/68 produced 18 takes. Take 18 was used for overdubs from Take 20. Wiki mentions that Lennon performs vocals while lying on his back, but makes no rererence to him being on Heroin.
Not saying they weren't smoking pot @ breakfast virtually every day - because they did ;-)
Paul expressed the fact that the Beatles were losing the bond they had together because they weren't playing live, and the members were being alienated as a result of the conceptual type of songwriting like Sgt. Pepper album, where each of them showed up on a different day to record a track.
So, the idea around 1969, was to get back to their roots as a rock &roll band.
This is them horsing around and rehearsing for the Apple/EMI rooftop concert.
Well ... this was near the end. Complete burn-out; seems like folks are focused on Paul. Sleep-deprived and sad. This was a moment of nervous, silly, absurd, venting. It is a tragic thing ... but, it is what it is. LOVE LOVE LOVE the Beatles. Paul was definitely having a moment .... "my girl, NEH NEH NEH NEH NEH ...". They worked fricken' hard. George and Ringo seem already resigned. John's hanging in there, with Yoko at his side. (No, idiots, it wasn't Yoko's fault).
@roadrunnermike Yoko didn't "make them split up", and this was actually at the height of their tensions and Yoko was seen less and less from here on in.

Great video!!!! This is what youtube was made for: to watch some interesting, hard to find footage, not the latest video by some r'n'b pseudo artist you can just as easily watch once an hour on MTV...
alright my cousin has a girl friend and ever since he started going out with that girl hes been less cool.. like the girl has his balls in a stone cold grip... he cant go to the skate park because she tells him not to and keep in mind this guy is 27-26 years old :( he cant hang out without asking first ya know? and im only an emotional 14 year old soo i dont know alot about love but i think this is kinda what happend to john and yoko
@itsbridgetlogann That was just the Beatles.... By this time they had actually quit that stuff for the most part... That was just Johns Personality and Paul's as well.
@itsbridgetlogann Yep, they did for a few years after the get back sessions...But they had gotten out of smoking anything other than cigs during their sessions, long before that ( Or so had been claimed by them before)
Though they did smoke and write... Their reason for quiting drugs was transcendtal meditation. According to them you can experience a high like no other drug through that...Again, just what they have said.... But who knows. :)
It is now the time to start listening to the Beatles’ music with new ears. Not for entertainment; this time listen just for its spiritual value. Go to truthcontest (dot) com, then open The Present and read the section about The Beatles. Show this to every Beatles fan you know.
People want to blame Yoko for everything, but it was John's fault as well. If it was my girlfriend it would be, "Listen babe, me and the guys have to work so just go sit in the control room and watch from there." John knew the dynamics of a band and he knew damn good and well he was pushing his will down the other Beatles throats with Yoko because they were in this world of their own, where THEY understood everything better than everyone else.
This video is proof that it really was Epstein that kept this whole circus on the rails. Without him, this would have been the Beatles in 1964, 65, 66....
@mikethekhotmailcom Sorry this video is NOT proof that Epstein "kept the whole circus on the rails." From the beginning, Brian Epstein had absolutely NO role in the studio. None. He knew nothing about rock and roll. And in fact when Brian did say anything in the studio they either ignored him or John told him to shut up. This is just the Beatles cutting loose. That's all.
@devmaggie paul and john were both high when they did this, that's what's wrong with him, love. they are pretty funny when they're high, though, i'll admit that. xD
@lenglain Oops hahaha. I don't even remember posting that.. I must have been thinking of another video clip from Let It Be where Ringo and Paul are on the piano together, it's awesome!
Look Paul had a role to play in the Paul and Yoko problem too. The beginning of the end was actually when Brian Epstein died, as he was the one who could keep Paul and John working together instead of against each other, it's not Yoko's fault and people really shouldn't judge what they don't know the whole story behind.
@firesoforion Not yoko's fault? Really?Funny how when John was with May Pang he cried to her about how he missed the beatles and how much he wanted to get them back together but yoko had threatened to leave him if he did....So yoko had nothing to do with it? Go smoke another one pal...
@firesoforion Ringo had quit for a period, George wasn't pleased with Paul's criiticisms and John wasn't happy about how Yoko was being treated. The end was nigh. I wish they had just taken a break for a few years. They would have made more albums. Paul was/is a workaholic. The rest of them just couldn't keep up with him - nor did they want to. John also didn't like Paul taking over the role as leader - which he was.
@myrtlebox George AND Ringo left the group at different times, beginning around the White Album & before Yoko came into the picture. Alan Klein caused the most damage to the Beatles when his being hired by John, George & Ringo over Paul's objection broke their longstanding pact of 'unanimous agreement' in any and all decisionmaking matters concerning the (formerly loyal) group; as a result, they all lost millions of dollars & have suffered decades of legal battles caused by BOTH managers..
@Nooz2Me ..And as for taking "a few years off-" that's exactly what John did after going back to Yoko. Between 1975 and 1980 he didn't record a single note of music, nor did he write a complete song. The BEST thing of John's that Yoko could contribute to the Anthology 'reunion' songs was 'Free As A Bird', and John's original "demo" is torture to listen to- he mumbles, stops and starts, only has a verse written. He sounds like someone who hasn't made any music for awhile, & didn't miss it.
@devmaggie Exactly. She's sitting in on a Beatles recording session and she's reading the bloody paper...unbelievable. "Get Back not to your liking then Yoko? Here I'll change the lyrics for you...Here we go...1...2...3...4...Get lost, Get lost, Get lost to where you once belonged.
theyre definitely not wasted theyre just fuckin around and having fun. Same song for hours will drive you crazy, mics and loud instruments in your hands, gotta be funny with em and joke around or you'd lose yer wits.
@newmoonamazing22 Correction: They actually were NOT usually wasted during sessions. There were a few occasions when they were and these takes never made it to any final track. Don't get me wrong, the boys were smoking marijuana @ breakfast, but rarely on recording days. Having said that, Paul certainly does appear stoned here, but it might just be fatigue from their marathon sessions.
the moonwalk is iconic but check out John Lennon's dance at 0:33, now thats some dancing skill and is funny just like what TheRingoStarr1 said in his comment.

@firesoforion You're so right, I hate it when people says that it was just yoko's fault..

John also didn't like Paul taking over the role as leader - which he was.
myrtlebox 8 months ago

Look at at Yoko there!! What the hell was wrong with John?
devmaggie 1 year ago 4
@devmaggie Exactly. She's sitting in on a Beatles recording session and she's reading the bloody paper...unbelievable. "Get Back not to your liking then Yoko? Here I'll change the lyrics for you...Here we go...1...2...3...4...Get lost, Get lost, Get lost to where you once belonged.

by this you'd never know they were pissed at each other as all reports said they were but then whatever they're on here helps them forget i guess

yoko isnt just a weekend girl.
its not just a fuckin girlfriend for John.
Its his other part of his soul.
Thats the simple answer.
Sadly love has changed and people missunderstood and hate.
yoko what a bitch.
imagine her situation after 8dec1980
then go on.

they were usually all wasted when the did their sessons. thats why it took them hours
newmoonamazing22 1 year ago
@newmoonamazing22 Correction: They actually were NOT usually wasted during sessions. There were a few occasions when they were and these takes never made it to any final track. Don't get me wrong, the boys were smoking marijuana @ breakfast, but rarely on recording days. Having said that, Paul certainly does appear stoned here, but it might just be fatigue from their marathon sessions.
myrtlebox 1 year ago
Just letting yoko sit in on the sessions is one thing but it crossed the line that he woul let her comment on things

The Jackaranda was my favourite pub in Liverpool. Started my comic in the basement.
Paul: " 'ey Fuck Face!"
John: "Where d'ya think we are, The Jackaranda!?"
-always makes me laugh this one.
