I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Benz Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Mercedes vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and EFi injectors clean as new!
@Pnoerre I am a Mercedes vintage owner in Germany and participate in the official W107 Club in Germany... I know of NO ONE who uses any additives or two stroke Oil. The M110 is a four-stroke engine, and runs best on 98 octane fuel and above WITHOUT aditives or two-stroke oil, and some good old 15W40 for summer-use. Burning some funny oil just makes the engine dirty...
And the W107 280SL all had only 185hp... so does mine.
I wonder where you get these funny ideas... Sorry.
of course the german version does have 210 Hp on the rolling road without tuning..I know that,..the M110 is a DOHC inline 6 made to race specs right from factory, compare it to an aston martin!
Is that in km/h? There's no way a stock 280SL 107 could hit 60mph in less than 6 secs, hit 80mph in 10 secs and then nearly touch 100mph in 13 secs! They only had 185bhp. You would need at least 350bhp to achieve this acceleration especially considering the weight of the car and the fact that most 107s came with a 4 speed auto.
If it's mph, there's no way that car is standard.
Awesome car! I'm envious! The engine sounds like a detroit diesel. The sound also matches the car well.

Put 1:100 two stroke oil in your fueltank because modern exo fuel is too aggressive to the old fuel injecion system, your pump might corrode.
