  • @AJkunVM why the hell would u look this up if all u were gonna do is complain about that freakish little fag Justin beiber- this is music, that's just annoying noise. There's a difference.

  • This song is absolutely beautiful.

  • I love this version of the song ^___^ I wish i knew ppl my age who'd appreciate this REAL good music, but nooo, they're into this modern...sounds! i can hardly even call it music!

  • Victor Records, probably.

  • @AJkunVM Go away faggot. No one likes Justin Beaver but you. This is real music... the name JB shouldn't even be anywhere on this page.

  • I prefer Fiona Apple's, Eddie Vedder's and, of course, Steve Martin's versions of this song, but much respect to Gene Austin. Cool Voice!

  • beiber should cover this song <3

  • @AJkunVM I sure do hope you're trolling.Or 8 years old.

  • @vanessaLoveeful if you have to ask whether I'm trolling, then you may be 8 years old.

  • @AJkunVM Only if he wants to really embarrass himself.

  • @AJkunVM no. Gayber Doesn't deserve to sing such a beautiful song. he'd only ruin it

  • I just...have something in my eye. :'(

  • Justin "Fish Faced Faggot" Bieber has nothing on Gene Austin.

  • @BreastsInspector dude chill. i hate how evrey one fkn always talks about him. if we all just ignor him he will eventually go away

  • This is a wonderful "lost love" song, although it is not clear if he is meeting here face to face or simply in his dreams. I suspect it is the latter. Gene Austin does a much better job capturing the sadness than the chipper version by Patience & Prudence.

  • I've known this song all of my life (I am sixty years old). I had no idea that there was an original version recorded in 1927! Wow! Learned something new today!

  • Great trailer man!! going to download this in downloadmusic .im

  • one of the best variations of the tune...good stuff

  • Thanks for uploading this treasure. Is there another posted anywhere with less compression on the audio?

  • Thanks again, edmundsrex, for uploading. You must have all of Gene Austin's records. And they're all good - he was a wonderful singer.

  • Simply breathtaking. I should've been born in 1895 instead of 1995!

  • Thanks for sharing this. I'm so happy to have discovered Gene Austin today. What a sweet, natural voice. And this rendition of this song! What a treat!

  • thank you for uploading. i'm 33 yrs old but i enjoyed this song greatly. i think in many ways it's more beautiful than the patience and prudence et al versions...

  • Really nice, too. My fave is the patience and prudence version, but this one is beautiful as well.

  • so much of this song was changed for the patience and prudence version that they are basically two different songs. many of the lyrics were changed and the melody is vastly difference even though some of the remake uses some of the melody of this, its not just a tempo change. listen to both versions back to back and read both sets of lyrics, they are totally different songs, though the one version was based on this one.

  • An interesting version of this old tune. I didn't realize that this was the same song as the more common versions until about 30 seconds in.

  • chilling.

  • i love how there's a bit of a lag between the last beat of each measure and the next one's start, gosh it must have been hard to record with everyone together. Conductor???

  • such a great song!

  • What a lovely sentimental song. I love Gene Austin's version best because he puts feeling into it. It's beautiful, and the background music is soooo sweet. Love the ending, but it sounded a little cut off. Thanks for posting this version. Tommy

  • This is not the same song as sung by Patience & Prudence and featued in "The Jerk." This is a totally different song. The people who believe they are the same songs are like most people - passive listeners to music, not active listeners such as myself.

  • listen to the lyrics, they are the same in the chorus. This was also recorded before patience and prudence recorded it,. You would think an "active listener" such as yourself would recognize that the lyrics are the same, and although some lyrics may have been changed a large portion is exactly the same.

  • I consider myself corrected, wicked. However, it is exactly my active listening that told me that this was not the same song, with so many words being different - some words deleted, many added on the P&P version - and with the melody so different. However, as I said, I do stand corrected, and for those who wish to flame me, I left my original comment. How could anyone think it was a different song?

  • They are one and the same song, sleepypie. They are different arrangements.

  • @sleepypie Sorry sleepypie...you're a musical idiot. It's the same song. Just ask the publisher. Patience and Prudence did it in 4/4 as opposed to 3/4 time and came up with a novel arrangement.

  • they are the same song, this is the original recording... David lee wrote it. listen to it really listen to it i bet you just heard the beginning lol. ok then just thought i would set the record straight.

  • I believed that at first, but it hit me around 0:50 that it is the same song, but it has just been changed a lot. The ukelele in the jerk makes it sound different, but the vocals follow the same pattern and there are big similarities in the violin solo and the trumpet solo

  • it is the same song the lyrics are just altered a bit and the song's speed is reduced you must have only watched 10 seconds because throughout the rest it is pretty much the same

  • this is what I love. The originals. Of course the one in The Jerk and the one Fiona Apple did on the Jimmy Fallon talk show, those were good TOO..........

  • first heard this song in the movie "the jerk"

  • I came to check this out because I recognized the title of the song as a piece Patience & Prudence recorded in the 50's... This is the same song... This version is charming and delightful. Thanks for posting this! I just opened my ears to something new. (And my mind, because I didn't know the roots of this song went so far back.) FIVE STARS...

  • Just added this to my 1927 playlist, one of 110 that will take you back to any year's music as if you're back in the day. It's a work in progress, always expanding.

    Hope you'll take a look ! !

  • this is pretty great audio for the late 1920s, but then again, its youtube, therefore, its in high quality. overall, its quite soothing. :D

  • For a long time Gene Austin had the best-selling record of all time, "My Blue Heaven," until Bing Crosby came along with "White Christmas." Most people don't know, incidentally, that Crosby recorded two versions, one for the single and shortly after another for an album and that became a single.

  • Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters sang this song in a sweet scene in "The Jerk." That was when I fell in love with Bernadette Peters.

  • @hookedon78s lol. me too!

  • Thank you edmundusrex for finding this and preserving it on youtube. It made my day.

  • It is interesting to hear how different the original is, in pacing and everything...

  • He doesn't do the a-a-a-a-a vocals.

  • The "Voice of the Southland" at his best - croon on Gene.............

  • this one belongs to the 'oldies but goodies' category...

  • Without the swearing BGo93, this is halirious. Come on people, were is your humor.

  • hahahalol love it

  • I love his voice. It is so smooth. I think I was born in the wrong era.

  • yes you should have been born in my bed :* :O

  • Bgoted

  • Your troll-fu is weak daniel san - sensai says go back to school. Besides, this is a classic tune.

  • You're bad.

  • eso si que era musica¡exelente1

  • thank you posting. I was looking forward to listening to this.

  • Wow...I love the original...I'm so glad people post about these things in other videos...

    Thanks for uploading!

  • It's interesting that it was originally a waltz. I wonder who the first artist was to record it in 4/4 time.

  • @IDLERACER

This is not 4/4 tiime. Think it's 6/8.

  • @Emililija they wondered who was the first to make it 4/4, not that it's already 4/4.

  • @jska13galcat of course :)

  • @IDLERACER I think P&P

  • @IDLERACER Frankie Laine was the first artist who revived the song, then everyone else followed in his foot steps <3

  • hauntingly beautiful original version
