  • It's not only the music, but also his video's always show so much atmosphere, some surrealistic feelings come creeping up my spine.

    It's great!

  • Hey plays the part sooo perfectly!! 10/10

  • Tom Waits top 5? Mine: 1. Christmas card from a hooker 2. Alice 3. Never let go 4. Heartattack and Vine 5. New coat of paint ill chuck a couple more on 6. Rain Dogs 7. Day after Tomorrow 8. Downtown Train 9. Train song 10. Invitation to the blues umm, still need to put this one on 11. World keeps turning and 12. Make it rain In no order That was hard!
  • FANTASTIC!

  • saucy!

  • He's soooo twangy, lol!

  • ok so i have been obsesed with tom waits since i was like 2 because that is my dad's favorite artisit ever! This was one of my favorite of his songs. but i always thought when i was little that he was like grimace from mcdonalds only covered in worms which i feared majorly. its weird to see him as a person and not some purple wormy monster.

  • thats so cool.

  • tom, 5 stars cuz you're rad. you're too cool to be weird but this video is too weird to be cool

  • Who needs special effects when you have emus?

  • It's called 'Grown Up Music' !

  • dyze21: When you stop watching cartoons, then come back and Critique this art.

  • IS ART SORRY BUT IS A SHIT:P JJAAAAAA

  • Lmao, so says some 12 year old with no taste.

  • why don't you 'Critique' it? a critique isn't necessarily negative. define why this is great in 500 words. ha...ha...ha.

  • Critiquing isn't "this is shit." That's 12 year olds not understanding what they're listening to. XD

  • This is fantastic shit! Gotta love it!

  • He so creapy here ^^, but i like it, and the song is just unique.

  • Awesome song 5 stars

  • i love toms music

  • My six year old has been dancing around and singing parts of this song for two days, since she first heard it. She wants me to burn her the cd. LOL.

  • hahahaha, awesome. she must have good taste.

  • check out a new film based on one of Tom's songs. Youtube "SENT trailer" for promo. Whole film can be seen for free on IMDB

  • or maybe he's just being tom waits and screwing with us. his website looks rather promotional these days.

  • love it *********

  • Like it!

  • brilliant

  • Geniuess song ^^,

  • WTF THIS IS SCARY AS SHIT

  • must hurt like a bitch when he sings... if you want to call it that.

  • u so wrong man Tom is great dont like all dsongs but some r great so is he

  • Nice use of punctuation and the English language in general.

  • I actually like Tom Waits, so take your pretentiousness and shove it.

  • I'm pretentious because I dislike Tom Waits? Do you read what you type or do you just not understand what that word means?

  • no, you're not pretentious because you dislike waits. This statement (as well as your reasons for posting the first) make you pretentious. ...and kind of an ass.

  • You're pretentious because you assume that your false belief that people only like him to be "edgy" is gospel.

  • If you believe it then it must be true, don't forget that.

  • That particular phrase was invented to replace "touche". Nobody wants to conceded defeat anymore, so they were like "Well, if it's real for you..."

Plus, I already proved you wrong, so stop trolling.

  • Good going, you beat me!

  • Speak for yourself, friend :)

  • This was the song at the end of the Enron movie...smartest men in the room? i think...but i think the lyrics really parallel corrupt corporations. catchy song

  • This song somehow reminds me of Nightmare Before Christmas...

  • I'd say this is some perfect goblin king music.

  • Heavy Metal meets Vaudeville :D

  • Tom Waites master craftsman....but I'm sure when this vid was over those Emu's said "What the Feck was that about" :)

  • What I love about Waits is his sound and his lyrics are really absract without being pretentious and how he does that is he seems like he just has fun making music. Maybe even more than we like listening to him.

  • saw him do this in Vancouver...fer 2 an half hours...

    in a class by himself

  • The ship is sinking. This song has some hard lyrics. Actually this music is like shock humor, I look around and see what others are thinking about it.

  • a political commentary imho

  • What's the name of the album?

  • this song is on the album called : Blood Money

  • Thanks!

  • Blood Money

  • Godly

  • If Christian Bale and his distorted Batman voice broke out in song I think it would eerily sound like Tom Waits.

  • hahaha

  • Exactly what i was thinking!

  • youtube "SENT trailer" to see a preview for a new film based on one of Tom's songs. The whole film can be seen on IMDB.

  • instead of gods away on business it should be Tom's away on business.

  • A mad genius

  • Damn right there ;)

  • I was away on business, but now I'm back!

  • so go back again to your business!!!

  • Tom Waits-- a true punk ;)

  • you are absolutelly right!!

  • About his being a punk? hehe

  • As mad as a box of frogs! Brilliant too! Love it!

  • es geniaaalll!!! quede loca con el video o.o

  • me encanta!

  • Thank God,ha,for Tom Waits, have a listen to Chocolat Jesus

  • He's such a great artist!

  • This guy is so nuts :D The most original performance I've ever seen. Go on Tom :)

  • You ought to see the x-rated version of this one.

  • I got a new vid I'm going to post where I dance with Richard Simmons and have coffee with michael jackson.

  • Thanks Rob G. for inviting me to your world

  • Wow Tom Waits is a true genius. I have to agree with you.

    P.S love the username

  • he is a genius

  • tom waits is one of the most original artists ever. I dont know how you think this song has some major political meaning about bush or thats its pop. tom waits was never pop the only songs of his to become famous were covered by rod stewart. and why do you complain if you think its pop? you seem to think a bands talent is based on radio play

  • He scares me. He's sick....

    wow that's great!

I can imagine that the Tiger Lillies took inspiration from him.

  • Tom Waits is a God.

  • Tom Waits IS God!

  • Bloody well done! Excellent! I applaud you mate, excellent work!

  • But He'll be back!

  • That's my boy! Keep up the good work! See ya when you get down here!! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Your Daddy, Satan.

  • but god won't come....he's away on business!

  • Maybe God and Tom Waits should do a video beating you up to death with a dollar bill... i would love to see that!

  • Tom Waits is not pop, nor does he seek to appeal to the swarms of braindead teeny boppers that listen to the plastic pop garbage that gets played on radio. He does his own thing, he's done it for decades and many people enjoy it.

Go back to your Avril Lavigne and leave us to enjoy our superior music in peace.

  • Not everyone gets it, but it does pay for the bird feed.

  • You dont "get" him at all. Your lack of musical knowledge only allows you to "get" fairly simply music. Keep studying and listening and you will "graduate" from him like me. He is pretty bad to be honest.

  • There's nothing wrong with simple music. As for "studying" and listening, I've done that and continue to do it on regular basis; I happen to be a professional musician.

If I don't "get" anything on here, it's what you're banging on about. But then I doubt you know yourself what you're on about. You come across like the guy in the cinema queue behind Woody Allen in "Annie Hall"! lol

  • being a professional musician doesn't make you a musician mate... Jimi Hendrix wasn't a professional guitarist.... and boy he could he play that guitar couldn't he?

Music is more than what they teach you in expensive schools ...

  • ... Jimi Hendrix made money playing guitar... Soooo, I would say that makes him, by definition, a professional guitarist.

  • Simply brilliant. If people don't get Tom I wonder why they bother they waste their time to post their negativity on here. They're hardly going to change the minds of those of us who do get him!

  • Have you listened to the lyrics?

  • have you ever listened to any of his other stuff? he has like 20 million albums, with a variety of themes/sounds to them, not to mention his way older stuff from the 70's where he was more of a beatnick....senses fail, slayer, avenged sevenfold, linkin park, creed, thats music for kids....

  • Not Slayer.

  • Wierd

  • Easily a top ten in the favorite songs department. Pure, unrefined genius.

  • tom waits is awesome he is my favorite singer :)

  • An amazing man. Period.

  • Cool bananas!

  • This is freaking scary. Kinda reminds me of what Les Claypool tries to do but brutal as hell. And not goofy.

  • I just saw this clip oin a Dutch fun site. It's real strange music but very funny!

    into my favo!!

  • put to fantastic use in the Enron documentary

called the Smartest Guys in the room which is fantastic

  • probably was fantastic in the Enron documentary... Also amazingly well-crafted for the current economic crisis? I think so.

    Someone call CNN, quickly!

  • i will narrow my eyes like a coin slot baby let em ring....LET EM RING!!! he is such a poet...

  • wow. ive never felt like such a prick for not listening to tom waits sooner. what a fuckin brilliant man. xxx

  • If he hade a better voice he wouldnt be half as cool, you got'ah hear him do waltsing matilda. just the best, i first heard it on 2doublej radio at 2am in 1976. a true star

  • its our national antham over here in oz but it never sounded this good

  • I hear him on the radio sometimes. You just have to know what radio stations to listen to. Public radio (PRI and NPR stations) usually play him and other cool stuff too.

  • This guy is pretty neat. He's definitely something you dont hear everyday that I'm sure if you did, he could become quite popular among blues type crowd.

    Bitchin' vocals.

  • Ship has sunk

  • How totally fitting a tune, in this day and age of Killers, Thieves, Lawyers, and Wall Street Tycoons

  • 'Who are the ones who we kept in charge? Killers, Thieves and Lawyers!...God's Away...God's Away...God's Away On Business...Business...Ha!"

It's regular radio's loss they don't play his music. What hypocrites. They played Dylan, and he didn't have silky smooth vocals either. Corporate bullshit indeed. I play him on my show.

  • Yes! "thats exactly how I feel" Real smooth.

  • His voice is perfect for this though.

  • his voice isnt bad, its unique. check out some of his other stuff like "san diego seranade" and then say he has a bad voice!

  • He has the EXACT voice he needs. If he had any other voice I wouldn't be interested. He is unique. Don't be afraid of originality.

  • I wasn't trying to knock his voice. Tom Waits is securely on my top 5 artists list. It's just sad that he's most known for other people covering his songs.

  • This is art guys,..

  • yeah it's a bit scary,but it's AWESOME :D

  • awesome but a bit frightening...

  • Tom Waits is a true American Artist, one of the few left in this maze of mediocraty that we call a country. He fits into the category of prestigious figures that will live on forever through their music, i.e., Bob Dylan, The Beatles, David Byrne, James Taylor, etc. A true shame that more of you (the people in general) don't recognize this.

  • here here!!!

  • When I grow up I want to be Tom Waits.

  • Hell! I like it this shit.

  • I'd sell your heart to the junkman, baby, for a buck.

    FOR A BUCK!

  • This is some scary shit

  • Awesome!!

  • This is dadaism on steroids. Dadaism isn't supposed to make sense, and as a result, makes more sense than anybody can ever imagine.

  • Only a true Tom Waits fan would get the emu's, right guys?

  • The emus i guess represent the animals in Noes Ark.... the ship is sinking!

  • he would be a great metal singer

  • That he would. It's one genre Tom's not tackled yet. He really should.

  • Rod Hull must be turning in his grave!

  • I wonder if Tom ever got a package from Jimmy The Lock....some Field and Stream mags, Lucky TIger, and some Bay Rum.

  • im totaly bias , anything i see or hear of him gives me butterflies, reminds me of the concert in Milan in july, the only time i've shed a flow of tears, during the 'All the world is green' ...top number concerts of all times, 2 nights in a row...still amazed ..

  • Well, I'm 47 and have seen a few shows in my time (not Waits), but that one was the greatest. It was a long miserable drive to Atlanta on the 4th weekend, but completely worth it. We had a 19th floor room facing downtown and Centenial Park. We watched the fireworks from our own private balcony. And the Fox was spectacular. It was Tom's last stateside show of the tour and he sang as if he didn't have to save his voice for anything else. Full on, no holds barred, awesome.

  • I would have loved to have been there.

  • Tom Waits is amazing.

  • Amazing doesnt describe

  • i wonder if he knows teenagers listen to his shit.. or at least i did

  • make that 2.

  • i dont really like tom waits but i love this song.

  • Jeni and I had the chance to see Tom in Atlanta at the Fox Theater. It was the show of a lifetime. Simply incredible. But Jeni cracks me up. Before the show she said she hoped Tom did that song "Concentrate on Business." I liked to peed my pants laughing.

  • CON-CEN-TRADE....CON-CEN-TRADE....CON-CEN-TRADE

On business...BUSINESS!..haha..wtf...that completely changes the meaning of the song its really funny though! good one

  • it's god's away not concentrade. plus "concentrate" is the correct spelling

  • hey i was refering to the joke elmerglugh did...its a joke i know what this song says!

  • Seeing Tom @ the Fox in Atlanta ! A goregous Theater, and the sound is perfect ! Wish I could have caught TW's performance @ the Fox!!

  • I hope you know that NPR has the whole atlanta show available for audio download and or listening.

  • Hell yea, I grabbed that NPR show and converted it to wav and seperated the tracks for a nice 2 cd burn. fkin excellent sound.

  • He sure is away on business Tom--luckily we still have you around, rock on!!

  • So dark, so back alley Paris cabaret (and I love that!). Kind of reminds me of a female Grace Jones, here, though he is hardly that. I adore Tom Waits. Now that would be really something - Tom Waits singing nightclubbling. From Iggy, to Grace, to you. In any case, I think this is great. I 've always believed that music shoud "do something" and this does.

  • my girlfriend tries to beat me up everytime I listen to this song.

  • Why? It's a good song. I had to listen to it again tonight.

  • 2 reasons. 1. I played it into the ground very loud. 2. I think doing so made her insane.

  • Well, I can can kind of understand her. How the heck do you play a song into the ground? I can understand the mechanism, but WHY would you do that? Yeah, it would have driven me insane, too. But props on the technique!

  • exactly....Just call it tom waits..in a catagory of his own which is amazing.....could put danny elfman in it too!!

  • age? I'm 15 and i enjoy it!

  • c is for cookie

  • that's good enough for me :D

  • Gotta love the emus. I also really like the pane of glass he holds in front of his mouth.

  • I just call it Tom Waits. Good stuff

Tom, gracias.

  • I just call it blues/experimental.

  • junkyard rock

  • Regardless of what you think about religion or spirituality this song just has such power. It reminds me of how absurd life can be sometimes. Waits is a true artist.

  • Truly the most frightening 3 minutes of my entire life.

  • WoooW this guy is really impresionant but your voice is excellent!! Whit distortion or not!!

  • This guy is more addictive than crack. If I ever get to see him in concert, I will be one happy weirdo. :D

  • cant say i love the song, but waits is a true genius. he does indeed sound like cookie monster. that is really funny!!

  • "Cooooo-kies!!1!" ROFL, you just know that Waits would let out a hearty cigarette laugh at that comparison himself. He's probably heard it from his own kids, actually. What a guy!
