ya know, i'll admit, i generally favor the original voice track with subtitles for anime. It has to do with the fact that i find the Japanese VAs often convey emotion better and really get in touch with the characters their portraying. There are good Dubs though and this is one of them. Others include Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon (for the laughs more than anything), and especially Ghost Stories, a series that actually sucks in Japanese but is a riot in English.

what happend to Asuka? i only watched the series years ago but dont really like to rewatch it due to the fact of how depressing it is due to the creators recovery from depression.
@I0ITuGI0I This is part of the Rebuild series. It starts off very similar to the original series (especially the first movie), but eventually the story divulges quite drastically. It's definitely less depressing than the original series if that's your concern. Not to say that it doesn't have it's dark or depressing moments, but the characters are more stable and proactive in the Rebuild series, and they actually grow throughout the story. I'd recommend giving it a watch =)
Asuka's currently being hospitalized because in the Rebuild series it was her that was piloting Unit 04 when it became corrupted by an Angel, rather than Toji. If the trailer is any indication, it looks like she'll be back good as new for the third film, and sporting a kickass new eyepatch ^_^

@shotgun6X i think that anno's depression is what made the original story line such a hit with the fans. anno's writing for the original was laced with the influence from his ordeals with depression and made the interpersonal connections and stories so much more believable and real. i feel like anno's own experiences is what made the orginal NGE story so seamless and flawless. it's because the original NGE story was so realistically human that the fans favor it over the the rebuilds.

It's quite confussing (that's why it's so good, because it's really deeper than you think), but basically, what the SERN guys are trying to do when forcing the impacts is to reset life over and over expecting little changes until humanity ends being a happy entity.

Also, dunno, I don't think AWL was THAT much more monotone... Listen to something from episodes 15 to 19 or the earlier half of 23. (which corresponds to this part of the story)

@gamesmaster4ever I have my own reasons, but aside from my religious perspective of it, I can't take too much gore and blood. I love the designs and the action seems sweet, but there is only so much I can take in one show. Still I gotta hand it to them, this is probably the best mecha anime I have ever laid eyes on.

Asuka's currently being hospitalized because in the Rebuild series it was her that was piloting Unit 04 when it became corrupted by an Angel, rather than Toji. If the trailer is any indication, it looks like she'll be back good as new for the third film, and sporting a kickass new eyepatch ^_^

@I0ITuGI0I Give the new movies a try. Trust me. It's not right to say that they are less gloomy but... well, you'll see for yourself when you get to the second one. You won't trust your eyes when you see the awesomeness of it. As for your question, Asuka was... uh, let's say, not available here. Telling you why would be spoiling a mayor plot twist. She actually gets to become a better human being here, but then...OUCH. She'll be back in the third movie (which is comming out this Fall btw)

Love the Rebuild series so far, I'm a fan of the original series too, but I got kinda tired of whiny Shinji, I understand that it was a major part of the show, but dear God! Also the fight in this was better and it's interesting to see changes in their characters.

....Then again, the english voice actress IS good. But why on earth did they rehire Asuka's? She's not as horrible as when they did the original series but... no, just no. Same for Gendo's VA who think's he's playing a disney villain... (then again, not as bad as the original one...)But overall, the dub was mostly good. Misato's, Rei's and especially Shinji's voice actors all deserve Medals/ were God Tier

@LEARZTIM But they do. The story from this movie onwards is TOTALLY different. It's not even similar after Mari arrives.
The theory is that this is kind of an alternate history or maybe after the Earth reverts to another coming (Fourth Coming perhaps) and now they get the chance to save humanity instead of fail like in the original series.
And it's such a great sendoff to Eva fans. I don't see why oldschool fans are in an uproar over this project.

@LEARZTIM I don't know. There's plenty fans who are actually grateful since they're showing new dimensions to the anime in high definition to boot.
Plus, if the next movie shows off the new plot in a smart way, it could actually turn out to be a sequel to the original anime. Or at the very least, an intriguing 'what if' story.

@LEARZTIM The point is, it's NOT a remake, its an alternate version/reinterpretation. The people who work on it are the same, the same voice actors, the same director, the same character designer etc. Rebuild is every bit as much "the original" as the classic series. That's like saying that EoE is a shame because it's not exactly like episodes 25 and 26.

@shotgun6X i think that anno's depression is what made the original story line such a hit with the fans. anno's writing for the original was laced with the influence from his ordeals with depression and made the interpersonal connections and stories so much more believable and real. i feel like anno's own experiences is what made the orginal NGE story so seamless and flawless. it's because the original NGE story was so realistically human that the fans favor it over the the rebuilds.

How is any of that not present in rebuild? last time I checked, they even +added+ train scenes, scenes with Asuka angsting in her bed, dialed up the horror factor of the battles (Don't remember that many guts in the original bardiel incident) etc. and the story hasn't yet progressed to where the juicy bits in the original show came.

@Sharavis It's not a remake, it's a sequel. The story is settled after the 2nd impact (what happened in the series/first movie). It's quite confussing (that's why it's so good, because it's really deeper than you think), but basically, what the SERN guys are trying to do when forcing the impacts is to reset life over and over expecting little changes until humanity ends being a happy entity.

But I don't think calling it a remake is right... would you call EoE a remake of eps 25 and 26? The question should be: Eva is so awesome, why aren't you happy to get MORE of it? It looks like the third movie's gonna be ALL NEW STUFF, save for Kaworu's story arc, but no one minds him since he's awesome.

@polker11 Sorry, but all the new VA is doing in this scene is doing the same thing the original VA did, it's not her getting it wrong, she's doing it just right; it's supposed to be that way. Also, dunno, I don't think AWL was THAT much more monotone... Listen to something from episodes 15 to 19 or the earlier half of 23. (which corresponds to this part of the story)
