BTW, it's a REALLY GOOD strategy to have Lemina cast Pressure Cooker on his head in the first round. It pretty much takes away the heads ability to attack you and you then only have to deal with the hands. :) It's also a complete waste of time to try and kill the hands at all. Just focus on the head.
@Flegan777 CD-quality sound makes all the difference... the Sega CD has much better sound capabilities than the Nintendo 64, the most advanced cartridge system ever made.
There are these rare Ice pups or ice dogs or something you can kill in the White Dragon Cave. If you manage to kill them, you get insane amounts of experience. Same goes for the SCD version too.
Now I've read Zophar's first form, which is his normal self with the extra power he takes from Lucia, is pushover. That sounds really because I mean, this guy is supposed to be a god, and if he isn't that tough himself, that makes him sound like one lame god.
What happens if you actually take out the hands? Wouldn't that limit the final boss' options if you do that or do you expect that it'll do worse attacks without them?
Yeah it limits his attack options but the battle it's so much easier and quicker if you just go straight for the head. The hand's attacks do less damage then the attacks from the head.

However those ice pups on the PS1 version are hard to beat without beating Zophar first.
As in the PS1 version has a dungeon that isn't in the Sega CD version.
But the dungeon has a item that when equipped basically allows the user to cast Power Drive but it effects the entire party at once for only 2 MP.
After using that Triple Sword + Catastrophe level 51 for Hiro and Lemia will kill those ice pups in 1 turn.

This battle is easier than the ps1, in the Ps1 there is 2 extra hands that through multi target attacks iirc
