You can buy two C-27J's or one C-130J. The C-27J will deliver its full load for 1/3 the cost of that same load delivered by the C-130J, however, the C-130J will not be able to land at all the fields the C-27J will. These are all to be Air National Guard aircraft. National Guard supports states during disasters. Those little county airports will not always support C-130's.
Is much more capable than it's historic predecessors (C-7A Caribou, C-123 Provider) which no longer fly in the USAF, and more capable than the C-27A or Sherpa, which is evidently going back into the US Army budget due to USAF lack of enthusiasm for the C-27J Spartan.
Is gaining notice with many potential export customers (including the RAAF) therefore could be in demand for some decades . . . jobs for US aerospace workers come to mind?
