  • Yeah the boos are totally fake

  • Hilarious. Lots of cheers and boos from the stone-faced crowd.

  • It's been a while but I guess I need not ask why Honky went Heel. Wow, at least Cena receives cheers in between those boos. I can see why he wasn't accepted as a Face just by looking at him. Honky is one of the best Heels ever so it was a great move on Mr. McMahon's part. Honky's outfit SUCKS, when the crowd cheers for a jobber over a Babyface Superstar it truly is special, and a clear message. Gotta listen to the fans. Especially when they begin cheering for Mr. X (seriously).

  • wat does this have anything to do with john cena?

  • Sorry, just meant the theme. Crowd noise is legit.

  • Crowd and music are overdubbed. He didn't have this theme during his failed face period.

  • Those boos are definitely edited in!

  • Damn, I almost forgot how good Danny Davis was when he was Mr X .

  • mr x ....coolest jacket ive ever seen

  • This is the kind of reaction mysterio gets. Vince tries so hard to put that beaner over, even putting fake applause through the pa system. But we all know that nobody likes beaners, esp. in wrestling. That wetback doesn't belong in a WWE ring, it belongs in a deportation hearing.

  • @unclebobpart2 Russo, stop playing around on your Momm'y account!

  • @PeeboTyson : Actually, it's YOUR mommy's account. I was playing around on her computer after I shagged her booty with a broom handle.

  • @unclebobpart2 What a faggot racist punk bitch you are

  • awful manipulation

  • Reminds me of Austin-Hart rivarly: Austin getting cheered as a ''bad guy'' and Hart booed as a ''good guy''

  • JIMMYLINE is 100 percent correct. If you watch the crowd during the various cheers and boos, you won't see anyone standing or moving their arms, the audio does not match up. There was probably little reaction from the crowd at all in actuality.

  • he was never a good face. It didn't last very long.

He was better as a heel.

  • mr X for the HOF!

  • I think they already knew he wasn't going to get over as a fan favorite and were intentionally trying to get the boos for him here...

  • @Derby14 Yeah, I remember not long after this they had the poll for fans to vote yay or nay as to whether or not they liked HTM, lol.

  • @Derby14 Correction: this was right after the vote had taken place. So, his transition into heeldom was gradually taking place.

  • @WarriorSmurf Excellent correction. The confusion had been weighing on an innumerable amount of minds...

  • Does anyone have the debut match of the Honky Tonk Man

  • Yeah, I remember he had a different intrance music with no lyrics in it when he took on Jake the Snake Roberts at WM III. As I recalled it sounded like a it was a part of what would latter be the Bushwackers entrance song.

  • I have no clue what McMahon was thinking bringing in Honky as a face when he was a heel as the Honky character before going to the WWF in Canada and other areas, especially at a WWF show in Canada that is flooded with Stampede Wrestling

  • @The80srox Honkey Tonk Man was a close personal friend of Hulk Hogan's at the time. Hence the remark Gorilla made on reminding him of Brutus Beefcake. Anyways, it was Hogan that wanted the Honkey to come in as a face... they did a whole intoduction of him with Hogan giving him his own " Personal Stamp of Approval " However not EVERYTHING Hogan touched turned to gold. Still Vince and Honkey decided to roll with it and Turned Honkey heel and an old school Legend was born.

  • Mr X aka Dangerous Danny Davis

  • Vince saw the heat this guy was getting and that's why he kept the IC strap on him for so long. People came out just to see this guy lose and he never did and if Vince sees the cash register ringing then he's gonna stick with it even though Honky was never more than a mid-carder. Flair had nothing on this guy when it came to shady finishes to keeping that belt. His matches almost never ended cleanly when he was the champ. Give Honky credit though, he played the villian role to perfection.

  • I think Danny Davis had A LOT more potential and talent than he was given credit for. Did you see that Dynamite Kid-esque jump from the ramp to the middle of the top rope and on to HTM!!? I'm thoroughly impressed.

  • Nice "WWE" overdub @ 1:47

  • Maple Leaf ' s Gardens classic !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hard to believe anyone could possibly have thought HTM would get over as a face.

  • Those boos sound so pumped in, and that WAS NOT Honky's music at that time. Does anyone know what was the music he used at that time was called??? I remember he used it at Wrestlemania 3 too.

  • It's weird to watch Honky as anything other then as a cowardly heel and actually chasing people out of the ring instead of vice-versa

  • Damn, those boo's very viscious.......

  • I don't know if they added the boos here, HTM was a well established heel in the Canadian territories at this time as Honky Tonk Wayne. Fans knew who he was before he showed up in WWF.

  • It's interesting to hear Monsoon and Valiant commentate on the poor booking in this match. Mr. X is a preliminary competitor and most are able to defeat him in a few short minutes. Booking a newcomer in a solid seven minute match against such an individual will only serve to make the man they're trying to promote look insufficient.

Good call on their part. How are we supposed to take the Honky Tonk Man seriously if he has such difficulty with a preliminary fighter?

  • 7:38 Danny Davis has some moves! Who knew?

  • haha, how does a guy from parts unknown get into Canada?

  • @eisenkreuzmusik Maybe he WAS Canadian.

  • Wayne Ferris was such a natural heel, especially in this gimmick. He was also a heel prior to his WWF run in Canada. Why Vince thought he'd cut it as a face I don't know. I would of brought him in as a heel right off the bat, but smartly, they turned him and thats what hes most known for. HTM is the man

  • That theme wasnt his original entrance theme used. As usual WWE has been tinkering with the pasr. Sod them.

  • @filthiestfish Yea, he had some real funky southern type music.

  • @filthiestfish Great job noticing that one! You must be a true Wrestling fan, like me. As soon as I heard that theme music I realized this was tampered with. There was no way he could have sang the "snake skin blues" yet because he hadn't hit Jake "the Snake" Roberts with the guitar in the snake pit yet. Which is ironic because it was that moment that really turned Jake into a face and Honky into a heel.

  • crazy canadians lol - FUCKIN LOVE IT

  • Is that "Dangerous"Danny Davis under that mask?Davis did wrestle as Mr.X while he was still a referee.

  • boos were added to this vid as well

  • 4:34 Johnny V is commenting on the boos. Did they overdub that as well?

  • no they just added more to the vid is all just like his entrance music...it didnt come along till awhile after this....the whole point of him getting booed was part of the gimmick so now with tech they just add more to make it more solidified

  • @joepod No, you think they're going to bring him back just for this random old match?

  • I was going to say the same thing. I think the WWF added boos to make it seem as though the fans weren't "accepting" HTM, thus creating the venue for a heel turn.

  • @JIMMYLINE No, everyone shat on his babyface gimmick.

  • @JIMMYLINE Possible...but this actually sounded authentic. The canned boos and cheers so prevalent on Saturday Night's Main Event were way, WAY more obviously fake than this. Factor in that that's on NBC and this is basically local TV and I have my doubts.

  • 4:08- johnny valiant's comments are hilarious .......GREAT mic talent.

  • I think that ring announcer did house shows when the WWF came to Southern Ontario.

  • I liked Honky's original music MUCH better--"a little HONKY TONKY!!"

  • Suprised WWE didn't remove the boos, I guess they forgot they ever tried to push him as a face.

  • this was part of the whole gimmick

  • I guess they WWE didn't own the rights to his babyface music "He's a honky tonk man." Even though he used the babyface music "He's a honky tonk . . . honky tonk man" as a heel too - having them overdub "Honky Tonk Man" when he was a face doesn't work.

Although, I think they were about to turn him heel at this point . . . since Monsoon was trashing him at this point. I don't think this was a last chance . . . I think it had flown away.

  • They changed his music.
