HELP i wanted to find this cd that had this song and a few others but i forgot the name it was a german collection of such jazz songs it also featured nick drake's saturday sun and mind body and soul from Billie Holiday and round 10-12 more that i don`t remember PLEASE if u know the cd`s name help me out.
It's a measure of the talent of these two American icons that they can still get toes tapping some 50 years after this song was recorded! Look at the post dates of the comments on this web page. Most are pretty recent, indicating that this music from the Great American Songbook still holds considerable appeal, even to those of a much younger generation.
wow - what a song.. I can never listen to this song enough times.. it has it's own atmosphere, stories and a life on its own, that takes me away with it to another time on another day.. blissful.
Those 5 people that hit dislike doesn't have taste in music at all.. They think they do but they really don't... If they don't like this then don't listen to it..... Dumb*sses.
we are playing this in Jazz band at school. Such an amazing classic. For the life of me I cant think of the arranger.... sounds more like a sinatra-esque arrangement.
I can picture Louis singing with that big smile that he always had.
@mhkaycool I do, for both vocals and Piano but I don't know if they're very accurate because it's hard to put this kind of music that the singers improvise and do strange things in sheets musically...
@12matlow I most sincerely doubt it. I never met Louis Armstrong or anything, but I read a LOT about his history. He seemed like a pretty devoted husband - but, if he slept with people on the road, I can understand why they wouldn't print such in most books. I think they were lovers in the sense they shared completely BLOWING OUT OF THE WATER any song they teamed up together on.
wow! what talent! now days, everything is auto tuned and is so cookie cutter. all sounds the same. love this stuff though, class, talent, personality, timeless.
Wut? A woman with a non electronic voice? Brintny and the other tards should take notes......oh wait? Wut? Dey Don't kunow dat writin' thing; butz they jutz getz boobz Andz seys...TALENT! Lookz at me!
"today we have cris barber...and she will always be the living "ELLA" to me... cause i see so much of Ella in Ms Barber...the passion, the voice...it is al there"
is this sung in swing feel? i need to sing it in swing and i dont know if i can orientate myself at this version cause i think this one is more like blues?!
@tratsroyer just because it's hot jazz does not mean it's not swing. The is most definitely swung. Listen to Louis' trumpet solo. If that's not swing I dunno what is.
Ella - your voice will be forever one of a kind - unique and remarkable - a joy.

I sang this to my grandpa while holding his hand on Saturday.
Today he passed away from Cancer. His favourite composer was Gershwin and this song means so much more to me now. RIP Grandpa Ron <3

The 7 dislikes are from Sinatra's family, bitter ol' Blue Eyes never matched the greatness of this recording in his version.
