Its a fabrication issue....I have the same model and in the mac store they fix it for free and it was out of warranty. I saved 700€ and now it runs perfect!
This happened to me other day, (using 10.4.11). Looks very close to your issue but freezes with diagonal pattern across and does similar on restart, covering entire screen and blocking entry; even from starting from inserting a startup disc. Tried resetting PRAM, didn't seem to work at first but left on for half hour, came back to it and so far ok... Maybe just fading embers and it packs up altogether, or minor blip, who know? Thought @ 1st was virus thru microsoft office.
Just happened to me. The puter has been messing up ever since upgrading to 10.5.7 from 10.4.?. It started two months ago when my battery exploded. Then 1 month ago, computer completely wiped when I downloaded 10.5.7. Now, the monitor is gone. I took it to the Apple store and the guy basically told me I'm screwed and that they were going to have to wipe every. I WANT A NEW COMPUTER NOW!
the problem is because the fucked nvidia geforce 8600gt card has problem and it's dead sorry you just can change the motherboard to fix this. But apple as open an extented program to replace your motherboard free without warenty .. call Apple for some othe info
Is it still under warranty? You'll be lucky if it can be fixed without replacing hardware. And no doubt if you take it in they will want to replace mobo, video card and what not as a shotgun approach to solving the problem.
Make sure you don't pay for that. Make them find the bad part and only pay for what is wrong and not their lack of trouble shooting capabilities if it is not under warranty.
all that has been happening to me since i bought it, if you can remember that, except for the green thing part. i know i should take it for the shop or format it, but i haven't still, all because i have to save the pics first. i sometimes have to restart it 4 times a day. maybe mac isn't as powerful as we thought :P
for mac, did the mean man hurt you?
