Props to Bette Midler for having them! R.I.P. to the great Sharon Redd! Thank you for posting this classic 1978 rendition of Bobby Taylor & the Vancouvers 1968 R&B classic!! Happy Mardi Gras!! DAVEDJ
I had the pleasure of being in the audience many years ago at Reno Sweeney in NYC where these ladies put on a great, great show! This was a red hot album and I was looking forward to more but I believe this was the only release. They also made an appearance on Merv Griffin and I have the audio from this. Also fantastic. But they never recorded for Motown. This was a CBS album.
I doubt that. Bette was fully supportive of them, so I doubt there was litigation or ill feelings. They were called "Formerly" because that's EXACTLY what they were, to this day Bette tours with a variety of female trios known as "The Harlettes." Other former Harlettes include Melissa Manchester, Katey Sagal, Linda Hart, Robin Grean, Gail Kantor, and Merle Miller.
All due respect to all other harlettes who followed....but no one compares to the chemistry Sharon Redd, Ula Hedwig Charlotte Crossley, and Bette Midler had on stage. Pure genius
Miss Charlotte Crossley!! I went to your YouTube page... and it is YOU!! I am so glad you saw and liked the video...It was a labor of love, inspired by you, Ula, and of course, our angel, Sharon.
I had forgotten Sharon's birthday and Iive just been thinking about her the last few days. So happy to know there are other fans like me who love and miss Sharon. She should/could have gone so much further. My two best NYC friends, Sharon and Irving Lee, I really miss y'all. RIP till I see you all then we gonna cause another raucus in heaven!!!

this reminds me of when my cousins and i would sit on the floor and listen to records. We'd have records and covers all around us.
