  • what is his website info

  • this dude is bad i think it was him rockn it at dallas guitar show last summer i want lesson dvd from him where can i find it

  • @mannnjen check his website for lesson dvd's.

  • If I could jam like this guy I'd give up Judo.

  • Nice sound. Would be fun to jam.

  • Rock on Richeray!

  • Just got hold of Redd's video "TeleTwang" and it's packed with great licks and great stories.Luvin' It! By the way I have"sausage" fingers too but I still love playing myTele!

  • When my students tell me their fingers are too big to play the guitar, i show them clips of Redd! Love ya Redd!

  • What a sweet tone played right.

  • Just saw this guy at the Dallas Guitar Show and he smoked! He was playing with a bunch of other top players. He was doing a clinic for dangerousguitar there and hes done a new video lesson series for them. Was pretty cool what I saw !

  • Man. Incredible. Great playing, Redd!

  • GREAT PIKN

  • It's amazing that a rig that simple can have that much tone. Amazing I tell ya.

  • @barneycockburn No it isn't because good tone comes from the player, not the rig.

  • @barneycockburn no it's not at all. A great guitar and a great amp is all you need. The simplicity and quality of the set up does it. It's when you start mixing all kinds of stuff that lose that pure tone. There's nothing strange about simplicity and quality.

  • Awesome Guitar..., Player..., and dude...

  • Merle fired him - but for a stupid reason - Redd could not levitate while he played - ROFL!

    Redd can really play!

  • Best I've ever seen! This guy cannot be from THIS PLANET!!

  • When I first saw Redd, I didn't know he was good. The crowd and I went ape shit for him. He looks like a regular guy, and that's just sooo refreshing. He plays with just the right amount of speed, taste & humor. And I agree, his deep voice is just terrific. I feel very fortunate to live in Austin and able to see him up close.

  • Just gorgeous playing!

  • I saw Redd and his band yesterday. Now I knew Id be in for some superlative playing but the man sings beautifully and his band mates all sing well. The one thing I dont understand is why they dont sing background vocals, just the same awesome band.Reds at ginnys at 4 today you fuckin rights Ill be there to watch the Canadian rip on his tele.Red told me he's from Surry B.C. FUCKIN EH!!!

  • I never stop learning from listening to and watching Redd Volkaert play.

  • keep on.Love the tune:) Thanks for sharing your playing.

    Best from Svein Rune .

    Norway.

  • So cool!!! Kind of reminds me of the late Danny Gatton.

  • Your a Lucky Man, you not only own a 52' tele, you got redd volkaert to play your guitar.

  • thats a great threesome

  • Hi Redd, Sounds great.... I used to sing with Big George and the Nighthawks in the early 80's and loved hearing to two do some great pickin together..Havent played for a few years now but sure do miss it. Patti Lynn

  • @Patriciakew Hi Patty, would love to talk with you sometime as I was with Big George for the last 2 years of his life. Also, check out Redd's website and give to him a note there and he will get back to you. Did you play with Lance?

  • I live on the north outskirts of Austin and caught any of Redd's shows possible, gas prices be damned, for about three years until turning 21. Now any given Saturday theres a no cover show at the Continental.

  • Redd Volkaert is a national treasure! If you EVER go to Austin, make sure to catch the free matinee at The Continental Club every Saturday beginning around 3:45pm featuring Redd and a great collection of players behind him. You'll leave wanting more, and you're in luck! Sunday nights there features another of his groups, Heybale! A good friend of mine told me about Redd about three years ago, and I haven't missed the Saturday/Sunday goings-on at The Continental on any of my trips to Austin since

  • He has the most amazing tone! And his band is smokin' too!! Check'em out soon!!

  • good picking

  • Check out 0:25 - Redd Loves this lick. He plays it during the prelude to Brad Paisley's grammy-winning track Cluster Pluck. A tele picker of the highest order!

  • Lovely guitar, and great pickin'!

  • Killer tonality and sustain...oh yeah and man can he pick!!

  • That's great , I've seen you before. How long have you played for Merle ? Great job, Hoyt

  • Hoyt,

I would check Redd's website for information on how long he played with Merle. Thanks for the comment.

    Rich

  • @olwhistler i think he played with Merle roughly 10 years

  • By the way that tele of yours is sweet!

  • Thanks!

  • youre great

i used to learn blues with my teacher

but im a deathmetal guy still diggin good guitar work

    and your stuff is great

    keep on playing man

  • Redd Volkart is the best picker in nashville. Just ask Brad Paisley...

He has an awesome pure country voice too. He has 10 times the talent as those little pretty boys who can't sing or play for shit!

  • Just for the record - Redd now lives in Austin.

  • I realized my mistake after I said that.. He don't come to nashville much these days.

Its sad because he is awesome!

  • @Richeray heck yeah he does! and we are glad to have him! I see him alot when he plays with Dale Watson.

  • yea he's great but i think brent mason is the best picker in nashville myself

  • @TNREBEL100 I love his playing and have met Redd, but I'd have to say Brent Mason is the BEST in Nashville :)

  • @TNREBEL100 He sat in with me tonight at 290 West Bar in Austin and blew my mind. He's like Danny Gatton with his foot in Bob Wills' ass.

  • @bassmangotdbluz HAHAAHAHAHAHA - That was fantastic!!!

  • Very nice indeed. You'd think with such fat fingers he wouldn't be able to fret the strings so cleanly - so I can't use that asmy excuse any more!

  • BUT, he never went higher than the 12th fret

  • Redd my truck is screwed up. Put the guitar down and help me change this fuel pump! We're having fresh trout and corn on the cob in about an hour too bad you're so far away there in Austin, at least Austin's got some hills.

    -stan

  • until I get that hybrid picking down I feel incomplete Redd is da man!

  • Redd in your living room is dangerous. I was paid to fly with you, Batman!

    Sincerely, Compressor Boy

  • Hey Forrest - Those new guitars of yours look great!!!!

Hurry back to NY - I need more Bendego clips. Bring Tim this time too. :^)

  • WOW!

  • he's awesome!

  • I opened a show for Clinton Gregory back in the 80's and Redd was the Guitar Player (I think it was Clinton - might have been Marty Stuart. I can't remember).

  • His Reddness. The BEST.

  • Redd was once asked to be Dolly Parton's guitarist. He said "I ain't playin' for no chick singer". He's great...!!!

  • We should all have Redd Volkaert in our living rooms at least once.

  • lock on or off

  • @ffairlane57 Think we could all pool our money and have him come to our living rooms and play our guitars? I'd buy into that!

  • *COUGH* *COUGH*

  • great improv! sweet soundin tele!

  • It smells good the roots...

  • Sweet ! My type of party baby

  • Awesome

  • That sounds niiiiice.

  • How do you get all of these great guitarists into your living room??

  • It just sort of happens. :^)

  • who are you related to

  • No doubt he´s a great tele-player. But how did you get him into your livingroom? Would like to jam with Redd in my livingroom too... I really enjoy your great videos, mate!

  • I'm glad you like them, thanks!

  • how the heck does he play so well with those massive sausage fingers?

  • I think his massive sausage fingers contributes to the tone he has on that tele!

  • right on

  • What's amazing is that he can get that tone and move around that neck like he does. I dont have skint fingers and I can tell you this guy does it so effortlessly. Cheers!

  • @bozodclown98 Exactly! I have friend in DC who is a big boy and possesses the same "Sausage Quality", Check him out: Doug Parks and the Lonewolves reverbnation

  • My thanks to you Richeray, and Mr. V., for the nice source of licks. Wonderful format too.

  • pssst! Redd's a CANADIAN. Naturalized Texan though. ;^)

  • luggo: The thing I don't get about Volkaert's country sound--especially when he sings--is that he is from Canada! I mean, I've never heard someone from Canada sound so country when they sing before!

  • what about Rick Danko from The Band?

  • When it comes to good country music and picking, there is no border, just one great big country.

  • It's sometimes interesting to listen to what many people would consider a conventional American country picker such as Redd, because as a Brit I hear shades of Scottish, Irish, and English folk playing in his picking style.

  • So I imagine you caught him in that cage there, gave him a guitar and he wouldn't leave!

    Excellent playing.

  • Awesome! What is your tone setup?

  • This was straight into the amp, and the bass & tone were probably set around 5.

  • damn he's good.. wannt to meet him as well, u say he's a nice guy, i wan't to jam!!

  • ...and funny as hell too ! I met him in Austin and I just had to tell him he was the best guitar player I had ever seen in person ... his response : "Well... you need to go out more !..." Pure Redd ...

  • I heard he cusses like a sailor, but that guy can PLAY.

  • I've hung out with Redd on a few occasions, and don't recall him cursing at all.

  • My mistake; apologies. Just a rumor, of course, and you know how it is. :|

  • That's OK, I just didn't want people to get the wrong impression of him. :^)

  • If anyone ever tells you their fingers are too thick to play guitar, shake hands with REDD.his hands are like two smoked hams.and truly a nice guy Michael Jon

  • He knows the 4th chord.....

  • WOW, what a thrill to have Redd show me what a Tele is SUPPOSED to sound like! We have a '52 tele also serial #1151 but we cant get it to sing like the MAN!

  • Redd is, without a doubt, THE MAN! LOL

He's an incredibly nice guy as well.

  • Redd is one of the many good things that have come to Merle Haggard. Wish I could spend a few hours learning some stuff from him.

  • How cool is that!!!!

  • myt cool mr.redd!

  • Your guitar has been officially broke in by the man. Hey, is it a reissue or the real thing? Either way, nice axe and what a compliment to have Redd train it to sit!

  • It was a thrill to have Redd playing it. My guitar is a genuine 1952 Blackguard Tele.

    Serial # 0813

  • YES!
