I think you're missing the point minervx. The secret obviously doesn't defy physical laws. But if you acknowledge that in MOST circumstances the secret will not work for you, then it WILL NOT work for you. In that sense, it is probably best not to consider how often positive thinking fails to deliver. And on a personal level, remaining positive in spite of failure is ALWAYS good for the individual. I just think you're ruining it for most people who are trying to apply the secret, minervx.
Just one last piece of advice: Before acting like that and say things that don't match the truth, pay real attention to their words, everything they say so you can understand how the law of attraction works. I have proof it works when I look back into my life, I just didn't know about it. Now that I do, I do stuff on purpose and it actually makes me laugh how much power you have to control your destiny. And poverty and starvation... Yes they bring it upon them because those poor souls are born in that environement and therefore that makes probably a big percentage of their daily thinking and feeling and so, once again, you attract what you think and feel. If you want to see the real authors of the concept of "The Secret" you merely have to look to Napoleon Hill who coined the term "Whatever you believe you can achieve." as well as Alfred Adler's "Act as if" therapy approach. The secret explains how to create goal. Creating a goal is important because arbitrary numbers and possessions are usually not enough to motivate oneself. Knowledge is not power, applied knowledge is.

I think it is true in the sense that believing it CAN make one's life better, perhaps someone who does imagine himself rich all the time will work out of desire as opposed to fear and this will make a lot of difference. Looking back and here at the present, there have been too many things that have happened which I find hard to believe is coincidence. But I have my own experiences...and the beliefs outlined in The Secret I have always known to a lesser extent. God being described as an 'energy' is much more logical than the manlike apparition created by most religions of today.

Rhonda Byrne never said the law of attraction is the only principle on which you should base your entire life. All the lessons you've learnt in your life were not taught by the same teacher. You learned different things from different people over time. Her inspiration was "The Science of Getting Rich" and that book is over 100 years old an in the public domain. All Ms. Byrnes did was a new take on an old idea, an ancient one actually. It was written about by several different authors 100 years ago, so why not her?
LOA does work, the secret dvd just introduced the concept but did not give a complete teaching of it. LOA requires more than just positive thoughts; it requires belief in the heart and action. Like does attract like but if u want something u must believe in it whole heartedly and act upon it. Thoughts do become things when it is something that is felt in the heart.

Bob Proctor, Napoleon Hill, Tony Robbins, Steven Covey, and Dale Carnegie all speak about the science of "The Secret" in different ways. Joel Osteen even speaks about similar ideas. The Law of Attraction is based off Newton's 3 Laws a Motion. You have to have a positive thought to achieve your desires. Psychology has shown negative thoughts create depression. There is an article in Psychology Today. So there is proof of negative thinking causes negative outcomes.
For you to say the third world doesn't have an opportunity is not true. Oprah has shown many times how positive thought in third world countries has brought about success. Example: Tererai Trent. Abundance doesn't mean only money. To many it does but abundance could mean happiness or spirituality.
Food for thought: Did you know that Neurons (Newton's Law of Motion applied) move up to 120 meters per second. Our brains are amazing and strong. All science is started on Theory.

The universe is not a conscious entity distributing karmic retribution amongst its inhabitants. Look around you. Clearly there isn't a consistent distribution of justice or benevolence. I started watching The Secret and within minutes it felt like a scam ready to indoctrinate people into some cult. I absolutely agree with minervx.
The secret worked for me. I won a trip to Paris in a city where a billion people live ( LA) at a time when I wasnt even listening to the radio and had ten minutes to call in. I used the secret and visualized for two months. Not a coincidence for sure. My intuition told me to call and Paris was amazing. I have since manifested all sorts of things. Whoever it isnt working for is either not patient or is too pessimisstic to make it work. If you dont believe it, it wont work.

In The Secret, she practically blamed 9/11 on the victims. I believed in what she had been saying up to that point. After I heard her blaming them for their own deaths though, I couldn't listen to it anymore because it disgusted me beyond belief. I've watched a few interviews with her, and she's lying through her teeth. I'm really good at reading people, so it was obvious that I had been right to put the book down when I saw that she was a liar. Optimism is good, but realism is better.

You lack the belief in yourself to see a better tomorrow and your comparison to negative aspects in the world is proof to where your mind is!
The reason why most people fail on using the Secret is because The Secret is basically a summarized version. They did their best to put everything in one movie when there's a lot more missing elements to it. I myself had to learn it through trial and error before fully grasping it.
You can't just read the book or watch the movie and expect to know everything about it.
I understand that you do not want people misinformed about how to take hold of their lives and achieve everything that they want, so I see that you are well-intentioned. However, as an individual who read the book with a completely open mind, I realized that it can serve as a great mindset. Following The Secret may not solve all of your problems immediately, but can serve as an explanation for those instances in one's life that seem more than just a simple 'coincidence' or something 'weird'.
The Secret is geared towards American/western audiences. Of course it will not apply to the extremely impoverished people who live in other parts of the world. Those who do not understand what Byrne is saying or take it way too far to the extreme are plain stupid. I think this is looking far too into the book, as the law of attraction works...not in this crazy magical sense but in a way that thinking positively, or optimistically and realistically, can guide you to make sound life decisions.
that's a reasonable assessment, that realistic optimism is the best option. i do not think i am looking deeply into the book, as byrne literally takes it to the extreme saying that her philosophy is literally a physical law and it works 100% of the time with NO exceptions.

And how do you know if it even works perhaps 50% of the time if you do not even try to use it? I understand a bit of skepticism is an excellent character trait, but it astounds me that so many people do not even try new things before completely doubting it and calling it bogus. The law of attraction works in these little almost humorous ways in my life. I'll explain more in the next post
@minervx Here is the most common example of how the law of attraction works for myself. If I think about a certain movie (again, this is at a very low level of the law of attraction), it WILL come on the tv, usually the exact day or perhaps a day after. This happens every time that I have done this. I simply turn on the tv and I'm like WHAT THE HELL because I just click on a channel that's just beginning the movie. Very minor example, but this is what I believe with law of attraction.

I think you're missing the point minervx. The secret obviously doesn't defy physical laws. But if you acknowledge that in MOST circumstances the secret will not work for you, then it WILL NOT work for you. In that sense, it is probably best not to consider how often positive thinking fails to deliver. And on a personal level, remaining positive in spite of failure is ALWAYS good for the individual. Every story has two sides, but I agree with your side. You can't get everything you want just by sitting back and thinking positively about the world. Hard work and dedication are what gain people what they truly want in life, or at least that's the case for the Average Joe. Byrne got lucky and thought of an idea that had enough power to spread and earn her money. After attempting to convince myself that statistically insignificant events were signs of more than just coincidence, I realized that nothing was really happening. I say to hell with all the self-help books. If you want to see the real authors of the concept of "The Secret" you merely have to look to Napoleon Hill who coined the term "Whatever you believe you can achieve." as well as Alfred Adler's "Act as if" therapy approach. The secret explains how to create goal. Creating a goal is important because arbitrary numbers and possessions are usually not enough to motivate oneself. Knowledge is not power, applied knowledge is.

Joseph Murphy had several books on this topic decades before the Secret came out and often mentioned the Law of Attraction. I agree some and disagree some. You need to take action to achieve, but the amount of work is not in a direct proportion to the result. It is not possible to dismiss the "law of attraction" as empirically wrong. I think it is true in the sense that believing it CAN make one's life better, perhaps someone who does imagine himself rich all the time will work out of desire as opposed to fear and this will make a lot of difference. May be it is like the fact that if you think the other sex will like you they actually do because of the confidence you get, I mean something that becomes true when you believe it.

Looking back and here at the present, there have been too many things that have happened which I find hard to believe is coincidence. But I have my own experiences...and the beliefs outlined in The Secret I have always known to a lesser extent. God being described as an 'energy' is much more logical than the manlike apparition created by most religions of today.

Yes, there's 270 dislikes (I'm not upset), but I'm still happy about the 140 likes. And the 40k views (it was 30k a month ago).
Also, I think all works should be examined. We should all debate on the pros and cons of a book that is a best seller. Learning how to examine things makes us better people.

Her inspiration was "The Science of Getting Rich" and that book is over 100 years old an in the public domain. All Ms. Byrnes did was a new take on an old idea, an ancient one actually. It was written about by several different authors 100 years ago, so why not her?

LOA does work, the secret dvd just introduced the concept but did not give a complete teaching of it. LOA requires more than just positive thoughts; it requires belief in the heart and action. Like does attract like but if u want something u must believe in it whole heartedly and act upon it. Thoughts do become things when it is something that is felt in the heart.

I agree with you about positive thinking being beneficial, only in the context that your surrounding environment is influenced by your physical actions.
If it worked for some people, big deal, it's just a coincidence, random chance. Attributing random events that happen in your life to some sort of ideology and then claiming the scientific legitimacy of that ideology when there is no actual scientific evidence in support of it is nothing more than wishful thinking and bullshit.

Bob Proctor, Napoleon Hill, Tony Robbins, Steven Covey, and Dale Carnegie all speak about the science of "The Secret" in different ways. Joel Osteen even speaks about similar ideas. The Law of Attraction is based off Newton's 3 Laws a Motion. You have to have a positive thought to achieve your desires. Psychology has shown negative thoughts create depression. There is an article in Psychology Today. So there is proof of negative thinking causes negative outcomes.

All these motivational writers have different ways of expressing "The Secret", "Light Bulb Moment", or "The Aha Moment". What works for one will not work for another. All these motivational people take all this info from one another and put their spin on it.
The hurricanes, the floods, etc. The bible doesn't say if you follow Jesus that nothing bad happens. God takes those bad happenings to create good. You fail many times before succeeding. Thomas Edison is a perfect example. He was positive.

I agree with you 100%. Positive thinking and optimistic outlook are helpful and better than a negative attitude,but limited. Too many variables operating in the cosmos for such simplification. The real problem is that people lack critical thinking skills,otherwise they would be able to manage their lives better under whatever circumstances. I'm extremely non-superstitious and don't believe in things without scientific backing. The secret worked for me. I won a trip to Paris in a city where a billion people live ( LA) at a time when I wasnt even listening to the radio and had ten minutes to call in. I used the secret and visualized for two months. Not a coincidence for sure. My intuition told me to call and Paris was amazing. I have since manifested all sorts of things. Whoever it isnt working for is either not patient or is too pessimisstic to make it work. If you dont believe it, it wont work.

In The Secret, she practically blamed 9/11 on the victims. I believed in what she had been saying up to that point. After I heard her blaming them for their own deaths though, I couldn't listen to it anymore because it disgusted me beyond belief. I've watched a few interviews with her, and she's lying through her teeth. I'm really good at reading people, so it was obvious that I had been right to put the book down when I saw that she was a liar. Optimism is good, but realism is better.

The reason why most people fail on using the Secret is because The Secret is basically a summarized version. They did their best to put everything in one movie when there's a lot more missing elements to it. I myself had to learn it through trial and error before fully grasping it.
You can't just read the book or watch the movie and expect to know everything about it.

I understand that you do not want people misinformed about how to take hold of their lives and achieve everything that they want, so I see that you are well-intentioned. However, as an individual who read the book with a completely open mind, I realized that it can serve as a great mindset. Following The Secret may not solve all of your problems immediately, but can serve as an explanation for those instances in one's life that seem more than just a simple 'coincidence' or something 'weird'.

The Secret is geared towards American/western audiences. Of course it will not apply to the extremely impoverished people who live in other parts of the world. Those who do not understand what Byrne is saying or take it way too far to the extreme are plain stupid. I think this is looking far too into the book, as the law of attraction works...not in this crazy magical sense but in a way that thinking positively, or optimistically and realistically, can guide you to make sound life decisions.

that's a reasonable assessment, that realistic optimism is the best option. i do not think i am looking deeply into the book, as byrne literally takes it to the extreme saying that her philosophy is literally a physical law and it works 100% of the time with NO exceptions.

And how do you know if it even works perhaps 50% of the time if you do not even try to use it? I understand a bit of skepticism is an excellent character trait, but it astounds me that so many people do not even try new things before completely doubting it and calling it bogus. @minervx Here is the most common example of how the law of attraction works for myself. If I think about a certain movie (again, this is at a very low level of the law of attraction), it WILL come on the tv, usually the exact day or perhaps a day after. This happens every time that I have done this. I simply turn on the tv and I'm like WHAT THE HELL because I just click on a channel that's just beginning the movie. Very minor example, but this is what I believe with law of attraction.

I agree with every word you say, especially when you say you support positive thinking and believing in oneself, but also mention the (hard) work needed to have success! I saw the Secret, the book is at home - my mother was obsessed with it, but just the whole fairy tale design repulses me. Byrne has some good points, but thats it. I LIKE the video.
