  • I'm a gamer since the 80thies till today. Videogames now are cool, but the c64 stuff is very special to me. The way this games are programmed is as great than my feelings are, when i'm playing them.

  • lol funny how hes running by em all

  • it is hard for kids of today to understand but games back then were better than today....because the developers were lacking the means to create good graphics so they put all their heart soul and efforts into the gameplay the music and the character and were coming up with real diamonds. If only the developers of today could grasp just a fraction of the feeling of the 80s...i grew up with the commodore 64 and the first game i ever completed in my life was target: renegade....good memories..

  • Just purchased the book "1001 videogames you have to play before you die."

The Last Ninja was not included.

Seeing as it was both a huge critical and commercial success, not including it is nothing short of blasphemy!

Anyways. Around 80% of the games worth playing according to that book were made in the 2000's, and over 100 for the year 2009 alone. That alone qualifies it as a joke.

Several other timeless videogame classics weren't included either.

  • love this game...always! best of the c64 history

  • This is such amazing game!

  • this takes me back to the childohood. My qustion is: how did we use weapons, change them, jump etc with only one or two buttons on the controllers? I can not remeber

  • @HowardTheServant If i remember correctly you used F1 on the keyboard to change weapons

  • i had the bbc Micro version of this as a boy.. it just stopped working (the game.. not the Beeb!) I was gutted! surely this is one series that could do with a re boot on modern systems but ONLY in the right developers hands...

  • @jasbk

I did a longplay of the BBC Micro version as well, search my channel for it if you're interested!: )

Or just access it directly -

    watch?v=0RfDW-wuNIQ

  • 64 owners flipped when this came out; they'd never seen graphics like that (or believed it was possible)

  • I loved this game,& remember it well.I dont remember all this 'running away' malarkey though.lol

  • Gawd, this takes me back. Epic game, but FMD the controls were intolerable!

  • Last ninja ,one of my fav games !! C64 Rules !

  • This classic game shows what a good computer is all about, not nowadays exactly perfectly digitally mastered and so on real music.

  • @kzbxvz I wonder if our kids will look back at ps3 etc and say the same thing?

  • @brettv8 They will probably be as nostalgic as we are today. But they will probably lacking in soulness and so on now 2012 the year of the ?

  • I loved this game! It was hard as hell but so were most commodore 64 games. Killer soundtrack too.

  • A great game with great music.

  • My god, blast from the past. Wasn't an easy game, though, not many games were easy on the c64 :)

  • Awsome. i loved and hated this game so much. music by ben daglish was ground breaking at the time. think i will have to download a c64 emulator and have a little crack at this beauty lol.

  • In 1987 the C64 was on the top of commercial succes & fame between the NES and SEGA Genesis.

  • @kzbxvz

For me, 1987 and the few years after were the pinnacle of C64 gaming... they'd figured out how to really take advantage of the machine by then, which resulted in some amazing games... like the Last Ninja ones.

  • @laffer35 And using the built in SID sound chip to it's maximum.

  • @laffer35 Yes it's really amazing what the programmers did with only 20 kb ROM and 64 kb RAM and the legendary SID sound chip.

  • i like your style peace Ninja! not even 1 shouriken in the first 4 min...i miss this age BIG TIME!...and i never went throug the dragon hole!

  • just banged a copy on ebay.. go get it.. 14.99 average condition...

  • Wher downloads Song Game ? Please Message of Youtube.Dzięx.

  • Holy $#%&... Do you know, I never knew you could subdue that damn dragon with a smoke bomb? I got past its fire breathing, but it was a horrendous piece of timing that required you to stand in *just* the right place and flip past- and having seen this method, I'm inclined to suspect my being able to do it that way at all was probably a bug!

  • @sterling7

That does sound like a bug indeed, I had no idea that was possible! Going to have to try that method out.

  • @laffer35 Managed it on an emulator. Having a bit of trouble getting Youtube to recognize the link- here's where it would be, at the end of the usual Youtube url:

    watch?v=F5OeVqV2qdQ

  • i want to hug these 10 poor bastards who hadnt the feeling what it was playing games like this one back in the days...

    makes me emotional

  • @Corey6496 cc64 & Lemon 64 are great emulators and try rom-world for roms :)

  • Played this when I was like 7 years old... good times :D

  • May you tell me what emulator you are using?

  • How do you move the ninja? Everytime I use the arrow keys on my laptop keyboard, my ninja will not move. What could be the cause of this, laffer35?

  • @Corey6496

Are you playing the DOS version? That one has the most horrible controls I have ever experienced.

If you're playing the C64 version in an emulator, make sure the keys are correctly configured (the game uses the joystick in port 2).

  • @laffer35 After all this time I thought the game controls was functional. What exactly did you mean by the DOS version? I you referring to the emulator I am utilizing right now? Nice gameplay by the way!

  • hahahaha, long time ago, i had "datasette", really stressy, re-loading all the time. but one of the best c64 games ever. thx for uploading.

  • @Achamoth666

Tape games had some really cool loader tunes, though!

I could never afford a floppy drive, they were more expensive than the machine itself, crazy as it sounds.

  • Thumbs up if you were teenagers when you first played this brilliant game for the first time in the late 1980's.

  • Still to this day my favorite game ever!

  • OMG! I lived for this game! Even now the soundtrack is so cool!

  • i have this impression, for played that old game when I was young. its like to read a book. You need a lot of imagination unlike today. And it was better.its my feeling. are you agry with me? (sorry for my english;))

  • @corgan59 I agree. The graphics in the old games fired up the imagination like a book or listening to the radio, and each person created the best images for themselves. When I played this game, it was magical. I can't say I feel this way anymore, but then again, I was ,,5, 6 or 7 years old when I played c64, and a lot felt magical.

  • @corgan59

    Absolutely.

  • @corgan59 u are soo right

  • First and only game I ever played from start to finish on my C64 :) Actually played one and a half times, cause the game crashed about half way through on my first attempt. Think I was 14, remember I fought and killed all mobs in the game. Still remember it like yesterday. Took me 2.5 hours I think, which I thought was a small eternity for a game :)

  • Such an awsome game, yeah the music was wicked. Do you think i can play this on my quad core?

  • Ninja in black ninja outfit in broad daylight. FAIL. Lol. I used to play this game when I was a kid.

  • @Sonic3nKnuckles serious that is a FAIL, but how else would you know he was a ninja

  • @chbtrucker 0:00 Didn't you see the intense stereotypical 'chinky eye' stare? Lol. Also, as shown in the lower right hand corner, they could have maybe made the ninja gray and the scenary at night, black.

  • The most wonderful music ever created for a video game in 1987 and beyond.

  • This and Last Ninja 2...the top of the line of all times. The dearest games from the past, the most lasting effect, the most enduring memories, the game and the time will never be forgotten...my God this music is brilliant, they have never outshined this and they never will.

  • Ben Daglish! Musical genious!..and the childhood nostalgie is kicking in!

  • goldsworthyjosh fucking pussy blocked me after i asked him if wanted to fight and meet up

  • I remember being a kid and asking myself why the guards were killing themselves. WTF?! Then I realized the ninja was "the bad guy" and the samurai were committing seppuku for letting you escape them. To this day I've never played anything like this.

  • This was the best at its time! I had it, played it, enjoyed it!

  • what a game i think i am going to cry!

  • You suck. Why didn't you fight any of the guys?

  • Oh, those horrible jumps made me crazy back then. :)

But this is a classic indeed.

  • Music is brilliant

  • Nice evasions! :D

  • game should have been called 'ninja takes a walk through the park'

  • Someone needs to do an update of the music in CD quality. I would love to hear this music in all its intended glory.

  • Oh this game is so cool and the music !! Best memories !! ......

  • Hungarian quality by SoftView from Budapest. Thumbs up if you know what "Integrátor" and "Arany Nini" means!

  • @HelloTibi Mark Cale is robber!

  • @HelloTibi Mark Cale is robber!

  • best game for c64 ever!!!

  • cool game and cool music.

  • classic!!

  • De 2 bästa spelen till C64/128 är The Last ninja & Last ninja 2

  • Love the way you run around all the bad guys - class! :]

  • This music is epic. I remember good ol' times, when I've got my C64 and bought this game on 5,25" discs. I loved to play it.

  • i remember the controls being so bloody difficult to get to grips with...the stepping stones were a nightmare

  • Most Sysytem 3 games had gr8 music. Still remember them 2 this day. Theres not many 360 PS3 games that have stand alone music.

  • 10 people don't know a thing about C64.

  • I get a chubby everytime I listen to this.......

  • 1:55 SEPPUKU!

  • Best c 64 game, ever, forever classic. Make a good pc game too!

  • Even the most basic calculators have tons more memory these days yet the C64 graphics and sounds were (and still are) mind blowing. I pitty those who grew up without this legenadry computer. And for once I am glad to call myself old enough to have lived through that great time in the 80s.

  • I always wanted this game. The commodore catalog was sold out when my dad called to order it and they never got it again :(

  • best game and best music for C64.. CLASSIC!

  • oh my the memories. my favorite game on my comodore:-P

  • Memories sweet memories :) :(

    Anton

  • I remember flooding the kitchen playing this, i ran a bath after work and played this while it was running.....30 minutes later....OOOOOPS!!

  • this game and Internatonal Karate have the best music in history of games. Just a couple of synths and that's it but it has lot of emotion, represent perfectly the mood of the game.

  • dosent count if you use pokes

  • I like you Gandhi approach to fighting. Non-violence all the way.

  • @lefthandpath314 You mean the pussy way lol

  • @ojideagu

It just so happens to be much, much more difficult to do it this way.

But even so, I do regret not playing normally now... would have made for better longplays.

  • @laffer35 Was it an experiment? I'd liked to have seen how all the weapons work lol

  • @ojideagu

Yeah, it was a way of trying to get some challenge out of the game by playing it differently, I have played through all three Last Ninja games so many times the ordinary way that I could almost do it in my sleep :p

And I also remember thinking it might be cool to do something different as there were already normal longplays of the games on Youtube.

  • This game was hard as hell, when I was a little kid I never mde it past the first few screens.

  • I loved this game. But was funny when most of the guys you got to see dead were already dead before you got there, or died of an aneurism after you walked past them!

  • i'm 30. i played this (a LOT) up until 10 or so. since then i have been wondering how to get past the part with the red floor and the stairs (where you have to touch the vase). finally, i can sleep at night. LOVE the soundtrack from the first level. I think i'll get a recording and put it in my playlist. why arent games or music of this quality made anymore? i am a professional programmer now and i am asking this...

  • omg i remember playing this game on the c64 when i was like 9 but i could never figure out how to get past the dragon

  • brings up soooooooo much memories when i was a little kid! thanks!

  • this reminds me when i was 12. thanks for uploading

  • awesome game @ the time but those rivers and streams wer a ninjas nightmare. Shud release a version on xbla.

  • When will it come out? 2011?

  • This game is EPIC!

  • man up and fight

  • Back in the day, games were extremely hard and it required patience and determination to finish a game.

  • this always reminds me of american ninja

  • Wow...fantastic!!!

  • This was my brothers favorite game for years. The river part was always a pain. Hah.... I used to play it alot as well when it first came out. Best sid music ever.

  • Nice video, I remember TRYING to play this as a young lad at my mates. Was soooo hard then. You make it look easy lol, i shouldnt mind having ago on it now and see what it was i found so difficult at the age of 8 or so...

  • The best game I had on C64. I actually got this game maybe a year before I got my Amiga 500. I'm hoping maybe they can bring this awesome game as a PSP mini or something! The ultimate ninja game would perhaps have this kind of music with Ninja Gaiden Sigma/Tenchu Shadow Assassins mixed elements of gameplay...

  • yes great game off the c64. cool video.

    greet DCRlive...

  • THAT IS FULL RETARD

    SIMPLE NINJACK

  • What is the use for the nunchakus? When one have the staff u never use the nunchas or the sword anymore

  • Lol. The ninja enemy went hari kari.

  • the music from 1:00 - 3:00 sends a lightning through my penis.

  • this was the time when game music just was epic.

my favorite artist: Chris Hulsbeck. Turrican Soundtracks were legen...wait for it....wait for it....DARY!

  • As you know, a large part of the program was developed for the order of Marc Cale, in fact in Hungary, for more than a year by a team of young mathematicians and programming geniuses, called SoftView.

System 3 took over the 85% completed game and after the finishing strokes, it was released without listing the name of the whole Hungarian team on their alleged request.

It is high time to make up for the recognition, at least...

  • @PolgarAkos sounds brutal if its true, but i guess its not that uncommon in business to steal ideas and other people work, look at mark zucherberg with facebook

  • At 1:54, does the enemy commit suicide ... please tell me I'm not seeing things

  • the loving memories, just to think how many countless hours i spent playing this game and the music in the game just gives me the chills, i love this game

  • I want this as my ring tone mother fucker!!!

  • arr the memorie,s dont you love it when the enemies commit hari kari because you run from them and they cannot catch you!!!

  • Simply awesome music. Rather good game too. Remember this game blew me away when I got it for my C64 back in the days. Ah, the nostalgia.

  • Holy hell the music in this game is beyond epic.

  • you play good, greatest music. thanks for this.

  • These kind of games are better than any xbox or ps3 game

  • Best inGame music ever ! Even 20 years after my first playthrough it still gives me goosebumps everytime. love it.

  • great music by Ben Daglish & Anthony Lees.

  • @TLSlayer1 Yeah, but this guy makes it look simple!!!!!

  • this is where I come from... this is what I am... jah bless....

  • this is what I come from... this is what I am... jah bless....

  • 1987 What a ground breaking year in the gaming history it was.

  • I've never knew what was the objective in this game... Care to share this information with me? Never finished the game when I was a kid.

  • ninja jogger

  • I remember reading a magazine review for this game when it came out...saying the graphics were 'stunning' and 'gorgeous'. Of course they are.

  • i had this game

  • One of my favorite C 64 games with Turrican and IK+

  • the one and only...

  • I never really figured out what the key from Level 1 was for. I played this the other day and was pissed that it took me 10 minutes to grab it.. They made this game challenging in more ways that they needed too lol.

  • I played this game a lot. Really enjoyed it, it still gives me a smile. Love the music and how the levels are designed. C64 games are the best!! Armenuki rocks :) !!!

  • The best C64 game ever!

  • wow u r good

  • I could never jump over the **&*& stepping stones without losing at least two lives. But what a fantastic game...

  • This is some seriously epic music even considering the current standards.

  • I really love the music.

  • @Imiface It's one of the best video game computer music ever created to date. My other all time favorite is Final Fantasy III US version.

  • NOSTALGIA'D!

  • Thanks for the memories, but the flying style of not fighting is inappropriate.

Stand up and fight man! Or throw a shuriken star. For god's sake!

BTW the guardians that commits harakiri suicide is an unbelievable fact!!!

  • The guardian that commits harakiri is unbelievable!!!

  • Classic. Come back SID chip, all is forgiven...

  • I didn't know the enemies could kill themselves. I learned something new.

  • Childhood memories are made of this....thank god I was young enough to enjoy this truely amazing game.....Just the music alone cements this one as an all time classic!!!

  • in 1:08 the music turn to Epic lol ...

  • @bamosa

no no true epicness starts at 2:00 in my opinion xD

  • This must be the best computer game of the 1980's and beyond. And the magical music is even better than??

  • I love this game :) And the music !

  • Last Ninja has the best music in any game, I recall sitting there being enthralled by the music as i played

  • @Carcass1701 nonono cybernoid good sir.

  • Ahhh the intro music while the game was loading... So mystic and gets you to the right mood. What about the game music in the first stage? Just MINT!

  • This game had more story, spirit and inspriation than any modern 3D blockbuster.

  • I'm totally getting the Virtual Console release.

  • Amazing soundtrack :-)

  • Kick ass. Why doesn't he fight? Ninja?

  • At that time I didn't know what to do with that dragon !!!!!! LOL :) Thank you, You brought back old memories....

  • why the FK did that enemy at 1:55 commited suicide ?

  • @TheBanned0ne

He committed suicide because he failed at his job and let the ninja get pass him.

That's called a Seppuku and is a way for Samurais to die with honor.

  • @Sphaa okay thanks

  • Would have been a lot more fun to watch if you fought the enemies...

  • man I loved this game in that time LOL and the music is awesome of that game
