This is one of most incredible Tchaikovsky"s, works, you can almost feel on your skin all the suffering of his soul, how the dark side struggles with his magnificent creativity and finally comes to life for our benefit, such a wonderful piece.
Uma das mais perfeitas obras contrapontísticas de todos os tempos. Talvez, junto com as duas últimas sinfonias (5ª e 6ª) e a Serenata para cordas, as mais perfeitas obras musicais de todos os tempos.
Dante - man of the Renaissance though he was - could not escape the poisonous teachings of the catholic church. I know whereof I speak; I was brainwashed by that evil organization for many years and I still struggle to shed myself of its influence. I think that Christ taught many good things, but, the institution that evolved as the Roman Catholic Church is horrible beyond belief.
Tchaikowsky portrays an almost uncanny sympathy and love for the doomed characters in this wondrous orchestral masterpiece. His superb illustrations of all the many contrasting passions and failings of humanity are brilliantly portrayed in this sublime example of orchestral perfection.
For me, this is Tchaikovsky's most moving, most emotional, most romantic piece of music .... of unequal drama! I can't get enough of it... Listen to the undertones.
Our orchestra is going to perform this piece. Holy crap it's difficult, intense, epic, hair-raising, tension-filled Tchaikowsky like I've never heard before.
@acinemajunkie You're welcome! This is actually the 2003 digital remastering of Christoph Eschenbach with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, originally released in 1991.
It does indeed - this is one of Tchaikovsky's best works in my opinion. How do you think it compares to Liszt's 'Dante Symphony' (or at least the first movement)? I enjoy Liszt's piece, and it certainly succeeds in capturing an infernal atmosphere, but somehow I feel Tchaikovsky does an altogether better job in portraying the grotesque poetry of hell.

You're comparing a Hungarian with a Russian. There are 2 different but similar outlooks. Personally, I like both.

Thank you for uploading this. I assume that this is the '95 recording, featuring Barenboim conducting the Chicago Symphony, is it not?

Fantastic, thank you for the upload. Dante's Inferno seems like it was the perfect poem for Tchaikovsky to take up.
