  • What a great song.

  • late 70's to '89, the music rocked!

Since then, it has been a tobogan ride straight down the toilet...

  • @geekintheperimeter Right on......you said it!!

  • @geekintheperimeter Music died completely by 1990-1991. And quite sad it hasn't changed the past two decades, no thanks to today's generation who only listen to alternative and rap music. Only way to change it is if someone out there would come out of the blue and revolutionize music to bring good music back. For now, I don't see it. I blame it all on kids today who wear baggy pants while blasting gangbang/cut throat rap which promotes gang violence.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 Yes, let's just completely disregard the grunge revolution brought on by Nirvana. I agree that a lot of today's music is shit, but to claim that music "has died" is ridiculous. There are still people in this generation that love old stuff like this, and there is plenty of new stuff that is just as good. The Black Keys for example.

  • @PoliteMeat Very little good music, not enough for me to listen to up to date music from stations that air current top-40 music. Problem with music today, dull and lack of lyrics, melody and rythium and much of it all sounds alike because of it. Few artists today write their own music.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 how about autotune started by cher? many youtubers blame autotune for ruining mainstream music today.

  • @punishalltrolls Back in the, '60s '70s and '80s, bands had their own unique. It was easier to tell who it was once it came on. When an Ozzy tune came on, I knew right off bat. Then came a Maiden tune, I knew instantly in just a second. Not the case today or roughly the past two decades. And the it lacks melody, lyrics and rythium. That tells it all that bands today lack the talent. If they have the talent that bands from the '60s to the '80s did, the sound would be more pure.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 what do you think about michael jackson and madonna (king and queen of pop)?

what are some exceptions to this perceived trend of unoriginal music?

know any 90s alternative bands that write their own music and lyrics?

is it because these bands copycat or are influenced by the original music?

  • @punishalltrolls As for autotune, in a way it has made music tanked even more. As for your question about Brittney and Gaga, yes I have heard of them however never grown fond of their music. I was born in 1969 and grew up during the '70s and '80s. Therefore, I was growing up with current mainstream music during those decades. And growing up with it doesn't mean I would like it. It was that there were far more talented bands during that era.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 & btw, im a 20 yr old college student from greece/uk who listens to nothing but stuff from the 60's,70's,80's & 90's. the 2000's is when music fell off.

  • @unseenlock Music really did tank in the early '90s when rap/hip hop and alternative began domaining mainstream music and sadly twenty years later it still does. I do not consider Nirvana a good band at all, overrated and they along with rest of alternative and rap music is what destroyed music all together:(

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 I am pretty sure old people said the samething about the beatles in te 60's. it's ok to bash other generations of music.

  • @pankclaw Yes, back during the '60s the beatles were blames to some extent. However, my point is about talent and that is the past two decades mainstream music has been runned by no talented hackers and their fans who say it is as good as bands like either The Cars or Beatles. Not even close. Bands from the '60s to the '80s were talented artists who wrote their own music. Very few bands from the past twenty years do that, most have other do the writing. That is why it sucks...period.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 Wrong fool there are still bands that write their own music..but since you have made up your mind on what is "talent" and what is not, there is no point in arguing with you...also all the 80's were was a bunch of faggots walking around in spandex screaming....and have you ever heard of a band called New Kids on the Block (A SHITTY BAND FROM THE 80'S THAT DID NOT WRITE THEIR ON SONGS.)

  • @pankclaw They came out in the very late '80s, thank you.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 still the 80s, thank you.

  • @pankclaw Wrong, the very late '80s when music began to slide, tanking in the early '90s.

  • @pankclaw And really never grew fond of New Kids on the Block.

  • @pankclaw ALL the 80s? were you born yet or living under a rock?

aerosmith in spandex screaming...i guess that's right.

but not most new wave bands.

  • @punishalltrolls Not just aerosmith Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe Winger the list goes on...New Wave is more 70s style music than 80s, the only good thing too come out of the 80s is Alternative rock and Thrash metal.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 how about pop boy bands and britney? i thought they became mainstream.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 never heard of britney or gaga or bieber? youtube promoted them. pop dominates and ruins mainstream music.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 i was too young to observe this downfall of the early 90s.

but i did hear music decline further in the mid 2000s.

when ideas run out and gaga rose to power. >:-(

  • @punishalltrolls Really no difference at all between music before 2005 and after. The late '80s/early '90s down fall was the ultimate down fall of music alltogether, even country music when rap/hip hop and alternative rose to power with no talented hacks; dull and terrible lyrics, lack of melody and little or no rythium whatsoever and not to mention, too many remakes and most are pathetic. I was in my late teens and early 20s to see and witness the downfall.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 The late 80's/early 90's gave us the very best of U2: Achtung Baby, Zooropa & Pop. We also got great R.E.M.stuff. The Cure was still making pretty good stuff. The Smashing Pumpkins were kicking ass.. as was the grunge scene.. whether you leaned towards a Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains or Soundgarden, they made some excellent rock. I do agree that shortly thereafter the rock ceased being rock & became a kind of loud pop. In short, no soul.

    P.S. DOB 1970

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 Dude shut up you really don't mean that. You're just saying that in order too make people angry just like a troll

  • @pankclaw Yes I do because it is 'fact'. Rap/hip hop and alternative is what destroyed music that lead to it's downfall during the late '80s and early '90s when it tanked. And it if does make some angry, too bad because they truly do not know good music. The Beatles revolutionized it in 1964 by making it better with greats who immediately followed, Jimmy Page, Jimmy Hendrix and other great guitarists. Then came rap/hip hop and alternative destroying it 25 years later.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 Trust me If you had been born 10 year later you would be talking about how great the 80's and 90's were 'Fact'.

  • @pankclaw The '80s were, not the '90s when rap and alternative music became mainstream. I was born in 1969 and grew up with music during the '70s and '80s. It died in 1990.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 Like I said if you were born in 1979 you would be talking about how great the 80's and 90's were. The only reason why you don't like music after 1990 is because you can't relate to it. A 'genre' of music has no effect on talent..Oh F.Y.I Alternative Rock and Hip Hop have been around since the early 80's so there goes your argument.

  • @pankclaw And how would you know any of this in the first place. You're only in your early 20s and it was before your time. I grew up during '70s and '80s. You weren't even born yet. Rap and alternative music though may have came out thirty years ago, however were not mainstream till the very end of the '80s.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 How would you know my age? So you're saying once it becomes mainstream it's shit??? :) Ok i'll drop it if you can tell me why OK computer a Alternative Rock Album that came out in 1997 ranks higher on most music sites then anything Led Zeppelin,Pink Floyd,Jimi Hendrix,The Eagles or the Beatles have ever put out, Try not to hurt yourself.....and the people who voted it as the greatest album ever are your age and older.

  • @pankclaw I like to see who this alternative band is. It became trash in the late '80s/early '90s when it became mainstream by flooding music with no talented hacks, puppets and copycats. Ok then, what '97 alternative album is it then? And who could have ranked it better than all the legends such as the Beatles or Pink Floyd? I call it 'overrated'. If this band tried to compete with these legends especially when they were at their prime, it'll be no contest.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 See like i said you never even heard of it and you are already bashing it, just because it came out in the 90's, you are so close-minded and have no respect for music what so ever..I really don't know what else to say i just hope you'll be able to see things more clearly as you grow older..and realize there is more to music then sound or style..Until then i wish you the best of luck..

  • @pankclaw I never grew fond of alternative anyway; dull lyrics and lack of melody. That is why today's music sucks. Period. No need to talk to this to someone who didn't exist in the decades that I grew up in. I heard it day by day back in the '70s and '80s. And someone who's just half my age say that I do not respect for music? I only respect those who have great talent and who are not no-talented hackers, puppets and copycats.

  • @pankclaw And wonder who I know your age. It was simple, I went into your channel. And one thing I have noticed is your attitude with the posts you have sent to others, insulting others calling them names. And you wonder why 'we' old farts say things about your generation. It is because this generation of yours have no respect for their elders, disobient, sleezy and so forth. I'm just returning the favor because it's types like you don't deserve respect. You're not worth it.

    End of Line---

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 Hey, we're not old dammit! lol

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 Really, time will tell. It'll be interesting to see who will still be listened to by large numbers of people 20 years from now.

  • @StoneFredFlint Maybe someone will come out the blue and rerevolutionize music between now and then. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to continue to see rap and alternative being mainstream for another two decades since it has been the previous two decades. Most artists today do not even write their own music. And if you listen to this Cars's tune, you'll hear the difference. The Cars wrote their music. Today's artists do not.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 do you listen to gaga or bieber?

  • @punishalltrolls No, I do not listen to them or Brittney S. I grew with music during the '70s and '80s and stopped listening to mainstream music about 1990 when rap/hip hop and alternative became mainstream. I have known those who though music died in 1980, some as early as the mid-'70s. And if a number of alternative bands write their own music, they should have their own unique sound. There is very little if any unique sound.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 Good comment i totally agree. Mainstream went out for me around that time too.

  • Comment removed

  • I really think when Curt Cobain killed himself in 1994 that was the day the music died. Don't know why but that's when it all went to hell.

  • @nixongill oh please . Nirvana was not as revolutionary as the rock journalists would have you believe . Those of us who were rock fans long before Cobain will know that it just wasnt that original . Nirvana were justa punk band witha gift for melody imo . The only thing they left were a bunch of kids who think they have to be mentally disturbed and whiny to make rock music .

  • @Cincinnatus1869 yah, nirvana killed rock, the grung style. I hate nirvana one of the wort bands ever in my eyes.

  • @HQFitz I know man what is really unfortunate is that their influence is still heard in all this - "my mother was mean to me so now I am a dope addict bent on self destruction " type of subject matter .

  • @HQFitz Got that right! Nirvana is an alternative band and alternative rock along with rap/hip hop music is what 'destroyed' music all together. Who ever puts Nirvana as one of the best bands ever seriously needs to see a pyschiatrist. Alternative and rap put music in the grave.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69

kurt cobain was a huge fan of classic rock, nirvana was an excellent band, all 3 studio albums i can listen to without skipping past 1 song.

and not all rap is so bad; 2pac,biggie,big L,mobb deep. any rap from the 80's/90's is pure gold, however rap like lil wayne, gucci mane, soulja boy, drake..that i agree about being put in the grave, but its your opinion that matters :)

  • Nice follow up to their first album.

  • Nice tits

  • found memories riding around with my brother listening to this on 8-track,

  • The Cars were one of the groups that had a lot of the past but also a lot of the future in their music. Much better to be a trailblazer than one who follows the ruts.

  • in 1979 my parents broke up and I moved with mom to the welfare end of town. During the summer, a friend from the old school invited me to her parents cottage for 2 weeks. I went. As a 9 year old girl I was camping with smokers ( thank gosh I had ashtrays to raid), Wo Ho Ho, the roaches are bonus....and bottles in the coolers, fridges, and trucks that we ravaged. Our babysitters were 17 and 18 year old guys...totally into the cars...and girls. Life's (still) the same...gb hd wtf stereo

  • @soundclash70beats wow... that's fucked up. liefe-ruining even... especially at a young age like that.

  • HeyHey... I had to take a few months off. Nowadays the CARS sound SO fresh.

  • RIP Ben Orr. You were a better singer and song writer than Ric Ocasek, who got all of the attention and all of the girls.

  • I was 15 that summer ,and I couldn't agree more!

  • @ironhuman1 So true, so true. Was 14 yrs old in '79 and what a great summer for all that great music and styles. Would never trade those memories for anything, no way.
