This is a unique culture..you dont have to get rid of it just because its against your religion...Cultures like this are all over the world, even in highly developed countries. You can see such practise in Singapore too
Instead of "getting rid of them" I suppose it is a better idea to educate the people! And nevertheless, the "nat" always have been and will stay as a part of the cultural identity of Burmese people. ;)
This is wrong belief and totally against what Buddha said. As long as our people has such perception not entirely rely on themselves we will never get out poverty (essentially we are at the bottom of league table). One day I will endeavour to get rid of them from mother Burma land.
