this is the best use of the freqbox i've ever seen, i'm trying to duplicate the patch 'cos i have all the stuff yo have... yesterda i was fooling gating the freqbox osc with the drumsets of an old casio toy keyboard, i was trying to fed the osc freq with the guitar but nothing seems happen...so i have to program a seq the miditocv into cv freq of the mf107, the with the sync on i play the guitar (with fuzz) into the freqbox input in order to give the notes to the sequence...and then?
Well it sure is cool that you can get that kind of sound out of a guitar but... It just doesn't sound like guitar anymore, and that's when I can't find listening to it enjoyable anymore. But good job anyway.

It sounds good, but... what a WASTE of rig, man!! I mean, you've got a tons of equipment, which im sure it costed a lot of money, and youre doing this kind of shiting music. Have you seen yourself, you barely touch (i dont dare say "play") the guitar!!! the machines are doing everything!!!
I gotta admit, the world is just plain fucking perplexing sometimes! Once a week I reward those machines by letting them stay up late and watch an old "Leave It To Beaver" episode. uh his drum machine is being used, and he's running his guitar through a lot of his rig. Personally i don't see the problem. Also he's probably making good use of Ableton or something, and he probably made the pre-recorded tracks, so i'd say he's making pretty damn good use of his rig. He's just letting computers do the work in many cases, which is how many electronic artists (Daft Punk, Zombie Nation, Simian Mobile Disco) also perform. He's not wasting it he's just not doing things the old way

From what I think I understand... you've essentially just built a beat with a sequencer, and run the guitar through an aux in of sorts. Then you gate the guitar w/ a sidechain set to the sequenced beat. This produces the stuttering effect. Then midi out is run through a midi/cv converter into the freqbox. If I'm wrong, please correct me. I'm about to get started trying to duplicate this effect...
Very interesting... would make for the basis of a cool goa/psy song. Though I'm a little confused as to what is the sound source - the Virus or the Guitar? If the guitar what would this sound like with a bass as input?
Quite innovative Analogger - must say that. Most of us, myself included chase new gear without bothering to figure out what we can churn out from existing/old gears... and this is definitely very innovative... keep it flowing :)
Don't worry about it - it's all good! I've just become fascinated with the ability to maniplate audio in strange and unusual ways. It definately is not a mainstream way of expressing yourself. There are about 100 people out there who really like my nonsense - and I do it for myself and them. Keep makin music brother, that's what it's all about!
Mark Samansky, you brilliant MOFO... you gotta tell us how you set this all up. Man that was fantastic... I email this to a few of my electro minded buds with the note... HOW the FUNK does he do that... don't my kroftkarl... he's wanking.
This is just too cool. You're making some SUCH sweet sounds there...could you tell me, is there anything smaller/cheaper than the virus that could chop up the audio in sync with the drums?
I really like the "Virus vs. FreqBox" videos. I can just imagine someone getting on stage at a local bar or something with a normal-looking guitar and having something like this come out of the speakers. I don't think anyone would know what was going on.
Good ear! Those efx are achieved with the midi-to-cv converter which allows me to modulate Moogerfooger parameters with control voltages - like an expression pedal.
dude this video is freakin bad ass I love that song man. it must of took alot of freakin work to put something like that together....amazing I really respect that.
its the closest thing to harder techno guitar iv found so far on you tube. but it sounds mostly like so heavy effect the real sound of the chords,or 1and5's whatever ur playing is mostly lost, leaving the heavy effect and essentially playing with the rhythm and prosess. i would like a access virus, isit the sequencing aspect,a specific preset #, i dont understand the need for the converter midi to c.v can you explain the reason for this, thanks for your excellent contribution ingiebingie
this song is excellent, this is kind of the musical direction i would take my band, (if i could actually get into one) i just love technology and how it can be used in this way, to achieve other-worldly textures
That was impressive. Who the hell are you? That is not a hobbie, I see thounsands and thousands of dollars there, not to mention the skill it takes to get all of it to work...
giuliodifrancia: stick your head in your ass, fucktard
thanks for the comment. I used to work in radio and in the 90s the business paid really well. that's over now. But in the early 90s I collected vintage analog synths. huge collection. I sold them all and made some good money. that allowed me to pay some bills and have enough left over for a few pedals. I seriously never knew there were other people out there who were into this. Then I discovered YouTube. I plan on selling my music soon on My Space. I will go by the name "Mr. Dithers."
My intention is to use the technology along with an instrument to create sonic textures. We all create within our limitations - which sometimes can be our strength. (I hope that makes sense) Anyway, I have had the opportunity to help real players achieve sounds they are hearing in their heads. I am not going to drop names but I have worked with a guitarist who shreds scales blindingly fast but used my perspective to achieve something unique. its all good!
Can Access Virus synth be used as an Guitar effect when the guitar is plugged to the Virus external Input? I can't find any info about it on the net...
Yes, the FreqBox is synced to the guitar's pitch. You can take the Freqbox oscillator way out of tune, but when the "sync" switch is on it makes that harsh radical sound. The Virus is gating the notes to give them the staccatto rhythm.
Hey - I can't play guitar either, but I never let that stop me! There is tons of cool stuff you can do with the bass as well. I will be posting something here soon. I hope you'll like it.
dude out of all the loads loads of guitar hero wanna bes and all the mindless shredding, this is with out dought the most inpressive guitar video ive probally ever seen on the net, thats saying some think im usally kicking off about some think, do you make any music like this, cos i get the impression this is just u jamming rather than a song
I don't comment much, but I had to say something here. I'm a pretty adventurous guitarist, and that really impressed me. Very creative and still really musical.
Awesome. Nice profile, I love the thing you wrote about the sound and being in the car. I totally remember the same thing when I was young since my parents didn't listen to music ever in the car it was always so quite except for the turn signals and other car interior sounds.
The external input patch I was using required a midi note to trigger the filter and output - just like you would play a synth's keyboard to hear a sound. I wrote the drum pattern into my sequencer, then on the Virus' midi channel I just hit a key on the keyboard in rhythm to the drum pattern - mostly eighth notes and 16th notes. I quantized that track to sync exactly to the drums...so all I had to do was hit a chord on the guitar and let the gated pattern do the rest. I hope that helps.
Thanks. I'm not really a guitar player but have gotten back into it after discovering all these amazing boutique pedals. I am really more of a producer and I wish there was a way for me to record a bunch of You Tube people. It would make a cool CD. Right now I'm setting up to do a video with my guitar and the Echolution thru an Electrix Filter Factory. Hope to have it on tonight (Jan 24th) or tomorrow.
There are some patches that will say "external input" that will do some cool things. One of them is an envelope follower that will respond to the dynamics of your picking. What's cool is that you can use the TIs effects as well. I was using an external input patch that required a midi note before the guitar could be heard. That allows you the ability to sequence a rhythmic pattern which gives you that gated sound. I hear the TI is badass.
I don't think so. I had them put in around 1990. I remember they were kinda expensive but I traded this guy at a guitar shop for some other stuff and he put them in along with a switch for a pre-amp inside the strat that boosts the volume about 20 db. I call it the "ape-shit" switch. You really notice it at lower volumes. For stuff like this, though, the ape-shit switch is pointless because the sound is already mangled to the 10th power of hideous.
you check out and buy koxbox "everafter" some of the best psy trance songs ever made are on that album. ithink they use a bass with effects with the same amount of collateral damage you like :)
well...its sort of..'cause the ocylator that I work with dont do none of this, second I got my self an access virus that has similar sounds but not quite as sick as the guitar one...and third..Im more of a empiric street producer...so Im looking for every new way to create new sounds myself..I bet Timbaland don't know shit bout this type of sounds..if he new he will still my ideas literally.
I've debated trying that type of thing out with my Virus KC and my Gretsch, but I don't think I would use it enough for the time it would take to perfect or possible pains modding my gretsch would cause.
Yeah man--you just saved the FreqBox from getting lost in a sea of user confusion as to what you can do with it. Moog should kiss the ground you walk on or at least send you a Control Processor so we can see what you'll do with that in the chain!
Yes, its in the bridge position. I also have a special pre-amp booster installed in the guitar I call an "Ape-Shit Switch." It boost the signal about 10-db. At high volumes you dont notice it...but when you are using a cleaner sound it really cranks. You can go from zero to ape-shit in the flick of a switch.
this is the best use of the freqbox i've ever seen, i'm trying to duplicate the patch 'cos i have all the stuff yo have... yesterda i was fooling gating the freqbox osc with the drumsets of an old casio toy keyboard, i was trying to fed the osc freq with the guitar but nothing seems happen...so i have to program a seq the miditocv into cv freq of the mf107, the with the sync on i play the guitar (with fuzz) into the freqbox input in order to give the notes to the sequence...and then?

Yes, you can use the Virus' delay, chorus, flange, distorion and filter.

So, does that use the guitars pitch to vary the rest of the synth or what? It sounds completely radical but what is it doing?

Yes, the FreqBox is synced to the guitar's pitch. You can take the Freqbox oscillator way out of tune, but when the "sync" switch is on it makes that harsh radical sound. The Virus is gating the notes to give them the staccatto rhythm.

Could I just whack a guitar through a Virus TI? what would it do?
Jackrabbit710 4 years ago
There are some patches that will say "external input" that will do some cool things. One of them is an envelope follower that will respond to the dynamics of your picking. What's cool is that you can use the TIs effects as well. I was using an external input patch that required a midi note before the guitar could be heard. That allows you the ability to sequence a rhythmic pattern which gives you that gated sound. I hear the TI is badass.

are these sa pickups???
Guitarplayer1349 4 years ago
I don't think so. I had them put in around 1990. I remember they were kinda expensive but I traded this guy at a guitar shop for some other stuff and he put them in along with a switch for a pre-amp inside the strat that boosts the volume about 20 db. I call it the "ape-shit" switch. You really notice it at lower volumes. For stuff like this, though, the ape-shit switch is pointless because the sound is already mangled to the 10th power of hideous.

well...its sort of..'cause the ocylator that I work with dont do none of this, second I got my self an access virus that has similar sounds but not quite as sick as the guitar one...and third..Im more of a empiric street producer...so Im looking for every new way to create new sounds myself..I bet Timbaland don't know shit bout this type of sounds..if he new he will still my ideas literally.

only thing that is scary here is that we have a guitar player that knows how to properly fuxor the boxen.
Jesus must be coming soon!
Well done man, devastatingly charasmatic....which is that all that matters these days.

I've debated trying that type of thing out with my Virus KC and my Gretsch, but I don't think I would use it enough for the time it would take to perfect or possible pains modding my gretsch would cause.

So fucking amazing. im getting a freqbox soon.
thefunkycrew 4 years ago
Yeah man--you just saved the FreqBox from getting lost in a sea of user confusion as to what you can do with it. Moog should kiss the ground you walk on or at least send you a Control Processor so we can see what you'll do with that in the chain!

What are your pickups called?
huffe2 4 years ago
The pickups are EMG...which require a battery.
Analogger 4 years ago
Yeah. But is it emg 81 in bridge position? And 2 emg sa?
huffe2 4 years ago
Yes, its in the bridge position. I also have a special pre-amp booster installed in the guitar I call an "Ape-Shit Switch." It boost the signal about 10-db. At high volumes you dont notice it...but when you are using a cleaner sound it really cranks. You can go from zero to ape-shit in the flick of a switch.
